Great ambience. 3 hour seating limit. Popcorn to snack on a nice touch. Would come back here again. Interesting drink, food and desert options.
Went to Green Grotto because we were craving desserts and bubble tea! Green Grotto is also a pretty good study spot, since they have outlets, food and drinks, and a washroom in this location. We were handed our menus right after being seated down. Coming in around 1 PM, there was still a decent crowd as there were a few others who were studying in the corners. Complementary popcorn was given not long after we sat down – one of the perks of visiting Green Grotto 🙂
Drinks are well crafted - not too sweet, and flavours taste like what they're supposed to be, but the ice tasted like freezer burn.Tapioca balls have a good texture and chew to them.
Servers are aloof; I had to order water twice, and it never got refilled. It was not a busy time.
I really liked the ambience as its basically for people who want to relax and work or for some professional meetings. The music behind is soothing doesn't disturb you and there are book shelf which seems attractive. Now, lets come to the food, they have variety of snack and beverages options and the one's which i ordered were these and i kind of liked it because there servicing was fast, they serve you a bucket of popcorn when you arrive (which is creative right?) :D. Me and my friend also had salt and pepper chicken which was really yum, they were in popcorn size but they don't serve with any sauce or dippings so you have to ask them for ketchup but over all its a good place to have a chat with your friends in summers :) and yea they do have wifi ❤
Every time I come here, it seems to be always packed. They have tons of asian magazines you can look through while waiting for a seat. Great atmosphere to hang around with friends. So far, I love their Hokkaido milk tea and okinawa brown sugar milk tea. You also get a complimentary bowl of popcorn which I always like.
There weren't many tables left when we arrived. Thankfully, we got the last table for four, enabling each of us to comfortably place the results of our retail therapy beside us. The lighting conditions weren't as optimal as I had hoped, but the warm-toned decor and large windows provided for a satisfactory background.
We were still too full to try any of the food, but the drinks were great. Our server was also extremely friendly, taking the pressure off our shoulders from being indecisive.
It's a great place to hang out with a group of friend and it's quiet enough to bring your homework and laptop to study or do work. Their refrigerated cakes were old but okay to eat. We ordered different drinks from bubble tea to slushies. They were all good. The most unique dessert was Cold Formosa Bowl. This was perfect for sharing.
After eating at New Northern Dumplings, my sister and I came here for dessert.
I ordered the Hokkaido Specialty Black Milk Tea and their dessert special of the day, which happened to be my absolute favourite - matcha crepe cake with red bean.
My sister decided upon a pot of ginseng and honey green tea and their pistachio chocolate crunch cake.
I really enjoyed their bubble tea. It had a light floral taste, yet was reminiscent of chai. There was a generous helping of tapioca at the bottom.
The matcha crepe cake and the pistachio cake came soon afterwards.
On top of the matcha cake, they sprinkled a sugary matcha mix, not pure matcha. I enjoy matcha for the bold, crisp taste. I scraped off the excess with my fork and dug in. There was the perfect amount of red bean cream.
The cake was pretty tasty. Not as delicious as Millie Creperie of course, but I got a decent slice for $5.99. No complaints there.
I took the excess matcha powder and put it on top of the complimentary popcorn. That made the popcorn even more delicious.
My sister's dessert was good as well. It didn't blow us out of the water but the taste and texture was good.
When my sister was eating the last few bites of her miniature cake, the tea finally arrived. It does not take that long to make a cup of tea and I have no idea why the wait was so long.
Other than that, Green Grotto didn't disappoint me.
I've been here twice now and will return for the atmosphere. There is a minimal order of one item per person. Once you order, they give you a complimentary bowl of their popcorn of the day (and unlimited refills!). They aren't pushy with their customers and let you stay for as long as you want. A great place to chat and play games — they don't have board games available but you can bring your own. However, despite the name, the drinks are mediocre at best. Ten Ren and even Cha Me Cha have better drinks.
One of my favourite bubble tea places. I love the interior decor of this place and the atmosphere. This is one of the nicer sit down places and is great for just chilling and catching up with friends. My favourite drink here is the Tripleberry Slush, which is super yummy if you're a fan of fruity berry flavoured things with little seeds in it. I also love that their tapioca is multi-sized.
Generally speaking, Green Grotto (this location specifically) has very good bubble tea. I enjoy how I can really taste the tea and not just milk and powder. Their tapioca is fun because they serve it with small and large size tapioca balls. They also customize everything: from the amount of sweetness to a mixture of different flavours, quite the value. GG also has full meals as well as desserts for the sweet tooth. Service used to be much better back in the day but they aren't shabby for the most part.
BEST POPCORN CHICKEN RICE and great chewy tapioca and tea selection. Excellent service and they let u study there as long as u want (except peak weekend hours, which is reasonable). Was my fav study place since university.
Excellent Bubble tea place. Authentic Taiwanese Bubble tea place, unlike those fake Chinese bubble tea shop that fool you. It's well known among taiwanese-torontonian circle.
Best place ever. They have 3 locations and will be opening up a location that serve Taiwanese food across the same plaza at Warden & Steeles Ave. East.
We are impressed by how the owner choose the hot drink cup cover. They use No. 5 plastic which is safe by comparing a lot of stores use No. 6 plastic.
Great place to chill. I like the food, drinks and magazines there!! Great place to chill!
THE best Bubble Tea in the GTA!. If you really want to have a really really delish bubble tea that is not super sugary, with lots of flavours to choose from, friendly service, good music, clean, and the BEST tapioca (bubble)... You MUST try Green Grotto Tea Room! At this point, I have tried almost all the milk-based flavoured teas and they are always not extremely sugary, super fresh tapioca, and always always, extremely friendly employees serving me. I know that living in Toronto, we have tons of places where we can go for bubble tea... but if you're really looking for something new, this is the place to be. There are now 2 locations: Warden and Steeles, and one at Warden and Hwy7. The one on Steeles I find is much more consistent with their recipes. They always taste good and they never disappoint me when I order my flavours. I find that the one on Hwy7, it has a very nice tea room to hang out with your friends but their recipe consistency isn't as par. If I were to choose between a Starbucks and Green Grotto Tea Room... definitely the latter! Highly highly recommended!
Good drinks (Malt/Matcha Milk Tea), good study spot. Green Grotto is nothing new to bubble tea goers in the Markham area. Known for good bubble tea and free popcorn, it's a popular place to study at. (It was packed on Friday afternoon; I think less people were there when I went on a Saturday. Warden location is also always packed, esp. at night) There were quite a few groups and it can get a bit loud with the chatter and music. Though the bench at the back is a bit uncomfortable (Hwy 7), I like the cozy wooden environment. The Hwy 7 location seems to have more tables. My staple order is Malt Milk Tea but this time I tried Matcha Milk Tea - really good, subtle matcha flavor and tastes like green tea ice cream! Also, the magazine selection is quite extensive and up to date.
My guest was 30 minutes late due to traffic so I was thankful there was free wifi and a free bowl of popcorn! Green Grotto’s newest Markham location is conveniently located within a plaza with T&T and Shoppers Drug Mart nearby. The most noticeable thing when walking in is a tree in the middle of the cafe setting. There are shelves of magazines and dark wood decor, making the inside feel very zen-like. Even their menu looked like a magazine!
It’s nicely renovated with a fake tree in the middle, a large library of books and magazines, and a nice kitchen/counter area.
This is one of my favourite spots to go in Markham if I’m looking for a trendy spot to either study or get some work done outside of the office. They serve the typical lineup of teas and other drinks along with complimentary popcorn-nothing spectacular on this front. I just wanted to post up this picture because I thought it was a cute dessert. The mochi is more like a donut really and a bit dry. Howe
It's a nice place to do homework, catch-up with a friend, or browse through their wondrous collection of Asian magazines. Usually they have pretty okay drinks. To boot, their service is definitely superior than that at the previously mentioned places (which are known more for the waitresses actually). They know how to treat their customers well :) Will be back again
This bubble tea place is it's quite a good place to study at!! There's free Wi-Fi!!! And free popcorn! The waiters are also very nice and attentive, they offered us re-fills for popcorn, and I got asked if I wanted re-fills for my tea by THREE different waiters. And the first one asked me when I was only half done.
I've had my fair share of bubble tea and I've been to quite some bubble tea places if I do say so myself. My new favourite bubble tea joint is Green Grotto! The bubble tea is less sugary in my opinion and you can actually taste the tea flavour opposed to just flavoured sugar water. Another bonus is that they serve you unlimited bowls of buttered popcorn!
Green Grotto Tea Room is a great place to catch up with friends or study. I arrived at 12pm on Canada Day and it was still open, though I was the first customer.
Even their menu looked like a magazine!Since Green Grotto is more well-known for their drinks, my friend got a Mango Slush (~$5) and it was pretty good. The mango flavour is quite strong and he couldn’t even finish it.
This place also has Formosa, which I’ve only tried in China because I never saw it here before. I’m not too sure what exactly goes in Formosa (because it varies) but it’s a dessert that has flavored shaved ice, assorted boba, red bean, sometimes peanuts, all mixed in.
I was very impressed with the lunches here. Although I didn’t get the lunch discount (because it was a public holiday), the regular lunch was pretty cheap and the quantities were huge. I think with the regular day discount, for $9, you can get a milk tea with your lunch combo.I ordered the Black Pepper Chicken ($9) and it was crispy and not too salty. The bowl of rice was huge and it came with a couple of sides which included gai-lan, daikon, bamboo shoots and a triangular tofu. I was stuffed by the end of it.My friend ordered the Beef Udon ($11) – according to the menu, this was the most popular lunch menu item. I didn’t try any, but it was big enough that he couldn’t finish it all. The side was some sort of pickled vegetable.
I would definitely come back to this place because of the wide selection of Asian desserts and affordable food. Hopefully I can try some more next time!
