Review Folco's Ristorante - Markham

The service here is very good, the team was very accommodating. I was very excited to try their wood fire oven pizza and fresh pastas. The pizza was ok (depends what you're comparing it to), its above average for the typical fast food pizza but its not what I expect from a good Italian restaurant. The pizza was very oily and greasy so its best shared. The portions are very generous, which is great. The pasta dishes we ordered were well made and had that nice texture you expect from fresh pasta. I would recommend the pastas over the pizza dishes. We went on a week night (Tues) at 530pm and the place was busy and had a lot of reservations. Thankfully we were able to grab a seat because we were a party of 2 but if you're coming here, I'd highly recommend reservations, even for dining during the non-peak times.

I was extremely excited to try this restaurant based on people's reviews. Our experience was not good. The food did not arrive at once. For a party of 6, half the meal was served while the other half was delayed. By the time it came the rest of us was done eating. Ok, about the meal itself now. The pasta was sticking together like it was stale. The creamy sauce it was in was at the bottom of the plate and not mixed in properly. I thought this experience would have been authentic but I could have done better on my own at home with a bottle of Alfredo sauce from Walmart. The interior dinning area was like a fast food joint. Only positive was the waitress was nice though. But unfortunately I would not recommend this restaurant.

First time here and this place is amazing! The staff are friendly and informative (many of the words on the menu are unknown to us). They have a good selection of items on the touchless menu. It’s located in an old home built in 1890. The parking is on a gravel area in the back of the restaurant or there’s parking on the street. The complementary bread is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Pre-sliced with butter, oil and vinegar provided. Just perfect. We ordered: RAVIOLI DI MADALENA $27 “slow roasted 8 hour veal roast, butter, sage, parmigiana this dish is very near and dear to our hearts. it was taught to us a by a wonderful woman by the name of madalena in piemonte, italy. she housed many of the chefs going to the local chef school in her home town of asti; one of them was mario folco.” Absolutely delicious with a good amount of veal stuffed in each mini ravioli. Meat was tender and juicy. WILD MUSHROOM RAVIOLI $26 “house made ravioli, forest mushrooms, white truffle, parmigiana, crisped prosciutto, in a parmigiana cream sauce”. Never had mushroom ravioli before and this dish sets the bar. The ravioli is thin and flat so you don’t feel like all your eating is dough. Each ravioli has a good chunk of mushroom, the cream sauce paired with the crispy prosciutto complements the each other and elevates the dish as a whole. One of THE best ravioli dishes I’ve ever had. FETTUCCINE CARBONARA $28 “house made fettuccine, smoked speck prosciutto, farm fresh egg, spinach, parmigiana cream sauce” Feedback from my son “Yummy, yummy, yum. Hee hee, delicious. Tummy feel good.” Daily special Frie Roasted Pesto Salmon
With Amalfi lemon Spaghetti $36 “Awesome flavours. Can really taste the lemony pesto without it being over powering. Pasion Fruit Bomba $12 Did not know what a bomba is so decided to give it a try. Such an incredible dessert. An explosion of passion fruit goodness. Would highly recommended trying this dessert. Thank you for such a lovely family dinner. We will definitely be back.

interesting pizza flavours, though one of the pasta and fried salmon is a bit lemony. Good place, a hit on the pricier side, but that’s expected for this kind of dine in. Portions are a good size and has a nice atmosphere.

We enjoyed the food especially the carpaccio. The tables are a bit too close together and the lighting was too dim. Our server was polite and attentive.

Order 6 Pasta Pescatore, 4 in cream sauce & 2 in Tomato sauce. Food came out but only 3. Immediately I thought, they messed up on this simple oder. We told family that had food to start eating. The other 3 meals came out very late. So late that I told them to pack mine To Go. Pasta was clumpy, the mussels are like the smallest I had ever seen and had a sour taste. Walmart has nicer mussels $10/pack. The microscopic scallop had a dry texture, Imo Walmart is a better deal. Shrimps were decent sized, but just boiled and tossed in no flavor at all. This was my 1st Italian restaurant, I have been to all inclusive resorts and the Italian food there in a caribbean country surpasses this. The reviews on this restaurant were fairly high score, but clearly canadians don't know what flavorful food really is. I would give a zero star . I basically had to dump it, and its not exactly cheap. Picture shows how it looks, 2nd picture shiws how good it was.

This place is a little hidden gem. The staff is super friendly and inviting. The ambiance is a little dark. But I guess can be romantic too a bit dated thou. But the food. Is just fantastic. I have been twice already and will not be the last

I’ve loved this place for many years! Glad to see they continue to strive for high quality and unique dishes. Overall prices are much higher, but it’s understandable. Carbonara was outstanding! Limoncello Spritz was good!

Hosted a 10 person event this weekend and had the food catered by Folcos. Mario the owner was very helpful in developing a menu for us. Pick up was convenient and simple, and the food travelled very well. When it came time to serve, all of our party members loved the quality of the food.

Thanks again Folcos!

This restaurant is RIDICULOUS and if you plan to eat there past 7:30 p.m. on a weeknight, good luck, because their kitchen will ALMOST CERTAINLY BE CLOSED. Granted, the food is decent. That's why I went back. But here's what happened. I went with my husband at 730 on a Monday and the woman at the front basically told us there was a "kitchen malfunction". In other words, they wanted to close early (we figured this out the next night. Read on). We went back the next day at the EXACT same time, and the woman (a different one) told us they closed the kitchen early because it was "dead". There were about 4 active tables inside. TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW. AT 7:30 PM. The restaurant is listed as closing at 10. BUT WE WERE DUPED TWICE. I will definitely not be going back again. What's the point? For all those who want something to eat at 730 or later, trust me, TRY A DIFFERENT RESTAURANT.

Just got home from a very disappointing dinner at Folco's. Waited over 1 1/2 for our entree. The server barely looked at us and when we tried to flag her down to let her know that the pasta that I waited so long for was not really even warm, we were ignored. So disappointing..... paid $95. for a meal that left us feeling so ignored and taken for granted. Just a reminder to the owners - when you see people waiting, waiting, waiting, please don't ignore them and just get yourselves a glass of red wine and walk away.

We had the whole restaurant to ourselves, as we booked the venue for a private party. The quaint atmosphere was well-suited for a
family affair, and the staff was great. We had a preset menu for our luncheon, which included antipasto, a pasta dish, main course, followed by salad (as Italians eat salad at the end)! The food overall was good, just not overall as good as it has potential to be.

The bruschetta was delicious as was the antipasto platter. We had a simple pasta dish of fettuccine in tomato sauce, and you can definitely tell that it was fresh and homemade; however, I found the pasta to be slightly more cooked than I prefer. If it was al dente, it would have been perfect.

Meanwhile, the green beans were a little undercooked and could have used an extra minute or two cooking. The chicken and veal were passable, but not memorable. A little detail that didn't go unnoticed was how the family-style big bowls of green salad (or at least the one at my end of the table) were not tossed thoroughly...my serving had no dressing.

I would still return though for an à la carte meal, as I'm sure that experience would be even better.

Very quiet and cute atmosphere. The waitresses were very helpful and extremely polite. The menu was phenomenal. I absolutely loved the Niagara Riesling I had. It was a peaceful place to enjoy a delicious meal however going on a Friday night it was busy and difficult to hold a conversation with your table mates. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for wonderful Italian food that my nonna would be proud to eat.

While Angel opted for an after dinner tea ($3), I opted for a dessert. I chose the Torta Ni Nona lemon sponge cake. My first choice was their tiramisu as I wanted to see how the classic Italian dessert fared here, but unfortunately they didn’t have it on this night.

Not really nice, it was not special, especially for the price. The less expensive dish was 17$ but I can get a same quality dish for only 11$ somewhere else

Exceptional Meal and Service!!. We dined at Folco's on July 18th, 2014 to celebrate our parent's birthdays - 6 adults from 40 to 81 and one well behaved 1 year old. The service was exceptional and the owner's could not have been more attentive to all of our needs - room for a high chair and stroller, one gluten free participant and allowing us to bring our own gluten free cake - which they gladly adorned with candles and served to us. The food was fantastic from start to finish - they have numerous specials derived from their recent trip to Italy so that along with the extensive menu made for tough decision making - but we were all VERY happy with our choices. The crusted lamb was superb - and both of us who ordered it received it cooked exactly as ordered - the wild mushroom ravioli and fettucine alfredo were to die for. Terrific tomato based sauce as well. From the first sip of 2 new cocktail choices (which we all sampled - apple and lemon - both were terrific), to the last bite we were all extremely happy with everything we were served. Great service, accomodating staff and friendly owners - this place is a 10 and I would highly recommend it. Thanks so much for a great celebration for our Mom and Dad - we will be back!!!! PS - can't wait to try the parmesan risotto made at the table at our Sept. gathering.

Disappointed on Mother's Day. Mother's Day dinner: soggy caesar for 8.95 (plus tax). We do not recommend these at all, lousy ... mostly chopped up stems with 4 croutons and drenched in caesar salad dressing. Entree portions are quite small ... size of an appetizer but price is around twenty dollars... entree was tasty but value is not there ... I left hungry. Have been to this restaurant on a few occasions and they would serve a bread basket to start ... that did not happen this time. Service was fair at best. Have always like the ambiance of this restaurant but it is just not there value-wise. Will be dining elsewhere in the future.

Homemade pasta and friendly service. This is our family's favourite Italian restaurant in Markham.

Our new favourite place. The service was just great, the food was delicious. I ordered a salad and my partner ordered the Ala Vodka penne and was just in love with the dish. I wasn't hungry hence I got the salad. We definitely be back soon!!

Great Italian Food. We walked into Folco's on a whim on a Saturday night and got one of the last open tables. The atmosphere was homey and comfortable although it was pretty loud with a full house. Our server was new but very friendly and professional.

The food was delicious, everything made in house and it shows. The two of us ordered a pasta and a main and shared them at the table. We really appreciated the homemade bread with oil and vinegar. The mista salad was simple but good, the ricotta gnocchi was amazing and reminded me of a dish I had in Florence, and the pollo limone was cooked nicely and well seasoned. The chef stopped by at the end of the evening and was very polite and welcoming. I just moved to Markham and am happy to have found Folco's!

SNEAKY TRICK to rip you off. This restaurant plays a sneaky trick on you. The waitress shows you a menu with a PARTIAL list of food available with the prices shown. Then the waitress promptly verbally tells you of "Today's Specials" WITHOUT TELLING YOU THE PRICES. If you order anything from their verbal menu, such as entrées, desserts or drinks, they will slap you 25-50 MORE PRICES THAN YOU WOULD EXPECT. ALWAYS ASK FOR PRICES OTHERWISE YOU WILL PAY WAAAAY MORE! We ordered a rack of lamb entrée expecting to pay $25 and they charged us $39 for this one entree that was not even worth $25!

Terrible experience - go elsewhere. Our waitress was a terrible host who wouldn't take back a dish that was unsatisfactory but tried to push it on us to take it home. She even charged us for it, even though we were a party of 10. The prices are inflated for a mediocre French approach on Italian cuisine. The food was okay, but nothing to write Italy about. The only authenticity is the rudeness of the owner Mario who hung up on me when I was trying to explain our unsatisfactory visit. He didn't even apologize and was very arrogant and defensive. Working in the service industry, the standard is to appease the customer, not blow them off as he did, but this guy thinks he is beyond reproach.

FANTASTIC!!!. Great food, fabulous service, knowledgeable staff - fantastic dinner. Thank you Folco's for a fantastic evening!

Great food and service. One of my favourite restaurants in Markham. The atmosphere is cozy, service always to expectations, and food is always fantastic. Their seafood platter for 2 is always perfectly cooked with plenty of garlic, lemon and greens, rack of lamb was perfectly done medium rare, and the tagliatelle bolognese was fantastic. After half finishing my wine I noticed a crust in the glass, the waitress was great about it, giving us an additional 1/2 litre for the trouble - perfect response.

A hidden gem. Folco's has a great combination of hearty meals and flavorful treats. I loved the ambiance and service as well. Definitely putting Folco's on the rotation.

Attitudinal Staff and Inconsistent Chefs. Tried this restaurant the first time, and was pleasantly surprised by the fabulous quality of the meal, my husband had the lasagna, and I had the wild mushroom ravioli in a brandy sauce - they were both wonderful, the server was exuberant, however the atmosphere leaves much to be desired - they clearly believe they don't need to invest in making the space inviting - the floors need to be refinished, as do pretty much the walls and ceilings, and they should really replace those tables, or, in the very least, invest in some table cloths, to cover them up! The second time we ate their, we were looking for a quick meal in the neigbourhood on a Friday night, the woman who greeted and seated us, was also our server, and behaved as though she was royalty made to perform duties so below her station she could barely compose herself. I don't recall my husband's order, but I ordered the same dish (it had been almost a year since our last visit), and I could not believe how disappointed I was - the pasta was undercooked, and cold, what a let down. There are so many things wrong with Folco's they are too numerous to mention, simply, they need to address the atmosphere, the attitudinal staff, and the inconsistent chefs - or at least, use one chef.

Horrible experience. One of the worst dining experiences i have had in a very long time. the service was rude; the food less-than-stellar. i have worked in fine-dining establishments, small mom and pop bistros, and corporate chains and have NEVER experienced such lack of client satisfaction or care in making the dining experience memorable. i will never eat here again, and suggest you don't just gloss over this review but take it to heart.

Folco's is a FARCE!!!

Excellent food, nice cozy atmosphere. Best Itallian food in Markham.

Nice gem in Main Street!. So many times have I walked by this restaurant, it wasn't until a friend held their birthday gathering here that I've actually walked in. Its a nice, quaint, cozy restaurant. I hear that it is one of the few that are family run. The food was delicious!! I ordered a Penna a la vodka and by boyfriend had the seafood pasta. In terms of price, quite resonable in comparison to the relatively larger restaurants like il fornello

Horrific Service. I cannot adequately express how horrified I was during our visit to Folco's. We were celebrating my daughter's recent university graduation. We arrived at 6pm and were not served out main courses until 8:20pm. That is NOT a typo...8:20pm...two hours and 20 minutes after ordering. My son ordered lasagna (his absolute favourite). FORTY MINUTES LATER our server told us that they were out of lasagna. That's probably because every other table was served their food before us. We saw people come in, eat and leave before we received out food.
The owners, who claim to be "like family" were MIA during this enire fiasco. No apologies, no explanations, nothing. The non-existent lasagna was taken off our bill as was the tax, as well as my sister-in-law's agnolotti, which were not even cooked. My young children must have eaten 5 loaves of bread waiting for their meal.
The entire experience was embarassing and infuriating.
My advice...go to Pizza Pizza down the street before entering Folco. Much better service and the food is cooked.

Great family restaurant. We really enjoy the cozy atmosphere and good food at a reasonable price. The wines are also reasonably priced - we love the Penny Lane Zin. Lots of great daily specials as well as regular menu items.

Folco's is an authentic Italian, family-run restaurant on Markham Main Street. They make their own pasta and sauces so it is very savoury and fresh. The lamb special of the day is very delicious!!
