Since my husband was diagnosed as celiac, we have discovered the joys of this place. We liked it when it was in our own neighborhood in the north end, but it was small and cramped and they didn’t have a large menu. Mostly baked goods. Now with this location, wow! A better menu than many full restaurants, a much larger, beautiful space, and a modern café connected to the restaurant and bakery. Just fantastic. We loved our first meal here and my husband said he would be happy to make the trip to this area of the city to eat here any time. I had the broccoli salad which was a step up from the usual broccoli salad, and my husband was able to order fish and chips for the first time since being diagnosed. The fish and batter was delicious and the fries were good too. We will definitely be back.

Today I had fish and chips for the first time in about 8 years, and it was delicious. My husband, a happy gluten eater had it as well, and agreed it was some of the best fish and chips he's ever had, gluten free or not.

On the advice of a friend we stopped in here and we were not disappointed. The location is tiny and super busy, the staff are friendly and really helpful. As this is a gluten free spot they gave us tips on some of the products and reheating the items we were taking home. We were a bit late to try the cinnamon rolls (which was what brought us in)so we’ll be back for those. The pizza crust, cookies and danish we bought were great.

I've been going to this place since they opened - not frequently, but enough that I can say their bakery goods and food is consistently high quality. It is not easy to find one gluten-free brand/provider that offers the full range of products, let alone EXCELLENT taste and texture. Last night I got a pizza for the first time. WOW. The crust was a real pizza crust (and didn't give me gas ... you know what I'm talking about my fellow celiacs). The toppings were generous and flavorful, and the price was reasonable in comparison to others in town.
I also want to say that I'm surprised this gem of a place was able to stay in business through covid and now with all the staffing shortages. So their hours are not always convenient and sometimes their policies have to shift with the current conditions, but I'm grateful these people stick with it. This is one of those "support your local" that I'm really cheering for because THEY ARE SUPPORTING US!

Wonderful gluten free food. To find battered fish and chips again is life changing to say the least. The treats are all delicious looking as well and I plan to try a new one each time I visit. Also, a very large menu for a purely gluten free restaurant.

Today is my first time here and I'm super impressed! I've only been eating gluten free for a few weeks and this was an absolute treat! I got a chicken burger and onion rings. They were better than any fast food place I've been before finding out I'm celiac! I can't wait to come back and try more things!

A very cool concept for a cafe. Certainly highlights the importance for inclusiveness in such restricted diets. They have a large selection of baked goods to choose from which was really great to see. They were all helpfully labelled to indicate if they were dairy free or gluten free. I would recommend this cafe for anyone who has the dietary needs.
My only gripe is that there is a lack of pricing on each item. Overall the staff were friendly and service was 👍

As someone who has been gluten-free for years, I understand the feeling of going to a restaurant and searching for what you can eat instead of what you want to eat.
Odell's is a safe space for the gluten-free community where you don't need to worry about cross-contamination. There bakery items are unique and worth the cost. Their restaurant items are fairly priced provide diverse menu options.
The staff is excellent and is always willing to answer any questions and provide outstanding service. 10/10 recommend you visit!

SO, SO happy to find a (delicious!!) gluten free bakery but also a cafe and a pub annnnd one that uses tech (qr code ordering). What a great spot to grab a delicious bite and beer or latte!

Good gluten free options but the lunch menu is a bit costly. Don’t order the Shawerma if you know what good Shawerma tastes like. Staff is not always friendly.

They are so creative to have so many different kinds of baked goods all gluten free. But, the most important thing for their customers to know us missing…pricing$. Each item is quite expensive and we would certainly appreciate it if they show the price tag in the show case. I understand that celiac people would pay any price to get some gluten-free goodies. But, we want the clarity of the fundamentals as consumers.

MY GOD. Honestly, best gluten free food + options I have had in my life. As a celiac, this was a huge highlight of my trip, and if you're celiac or just avoiding gluten, this is the best it gets folks. Everyone there was lovely to deal with, and I had so many things that I haven't had in 15+ years (croissants, fish and chips, donair, etc). GO. 🙌

Visiting from Calgary and discovered Odell’s. What a find. I have been picking up a few treats daily and everything is fantastic. Best GF quality I have had and an amazing selection. The lunch menu offer is one of a kind and being 100% GF means no concerns of cross contamination. Love this place!

Loads of dairy-free options with cookies, desserts, etc. Pretty amazing. I do wish that they were able to substitute the sugar as well into a syrup or coconut sugar for some of the desserts, since am allergic to refined sugar and suspect some others are as well.

Best gluten free bakery I've tried! Unfortunately I was too early for the kitchen but the muffins we had are the best gluten free I've had. The croissant was also delicious and that's a difficult gluten-free one to nail down. Service was absolutely perfect as well!

I love the food and selection. My one complaint if anything is that the service could be faster. We ordered our meals; Pizza, garlic fingers, salad and seafood platter. After ordering our meals came after 30mins.
We will be back but hopefully quicker service, the meals are great and would recommend the Clams or any fish.

BEST breakfast ever! Had french toast AND pancakes ( don't judge!) And it was by far the best I have ever had! Fresh squeezed OJ and yummy coffee. Couldn't leave without getting some snacks as well. Cupcake, cinnamon roll, turkey roll and a raspberry square. Hope it makes it home back to Newfoundland in my suitcase. And the nicest owners in the world. Super sweet! Highly recommend this place, even if you're not gluten free!

I don't know how I have had celiac for almost three years and only now have made it out to Odell's. This place is awesome - especially the new location. Finally somewhere I can go where the food tastes not only like normal food, but BETTER than normal food. Their fish and chips are to die for, and don't leave without trying one of their apple blossoms for dessert!

We came to Halifax for vacation from the U.S. and saw this place listed on my Find Me GF app. I was so excited to try it and have a place where I can eat everything on the menu! No small select few items that may or may not be safe like other restaurants. I had the french toast and my friends had muffins. Everything was delicious! I also bought a muffin and lllsticky bun for later. This is a must try if you have celiac and miss having tasty baked goods!

I finally went into O'Dell's today. I originally met them at VegFest the first year when I had an amazing gluten-free and vegan cinnamon roll.
The cafe is not huge but it's a nice little space. I am simply thrilled by just how many vegan goodies they offer in their bakery area. The cafe doesn't offer too much but it's totally worth a trip just for the baked items.
The gentleman at the counter was very knowledgeable when I asked him what was available for vegans and pointed out very easily what was and wasn't vegan.
I got a couple little treats to bring home with me, a raspberry square and 2 nanaimo bars, which were delicious!
My only complaint is it is a little expensive but I do understand it being gluten-free and better ingredients will raise the price.
If I am ever in the neighborhood I will definitely be back.

This is one of my favorite places in the world. I would rent the apartment across the street and move to Halifax just to be able to have lunch there daily. As a celiac patient it is vital to have a dedicated kitchen and O’Dell’s checks all the boxes for my health and my palette. Bravo!!

Loved it at the old location. Couldn’t wait to come here for breakfast. All three of our orders were wrong. I told our waitress the one time she came back that they forgot my potatoes (one of three mistake in my order) and she said oh and left and never came back. We finished ten minutes later, and still 15 minutes later she hasn’t been back to maybe see if we need a bill. It will be interesting to see if the bill is for what we ordered or what we got.
