Good fish and chips. Servers were nice and food was quick. Could use a little more attention from our server as we did not receive cutlery or napkins. We were promptly given cutlery when we asked, however no napkins. They were getting a bit busy during that time and with it being seat yourself this is bound to happen from time to time. I frequent the Red Stag year round, as it is close to the waterfront boardwalk and has a great patio in the summertime. The food is always tasty and prompt. The staff are friendly and easy going, making the experience very enjoyable. The burgers are great, and the Mac n Cheese is amazing, to name a couple of my regular dishes. I havent had anything that I was not pleased with fully. I would recommend this place to everyone!

The food was pretty good. We went because we got a Groupon. Service was fast and good, the waitress checked on us often and our food arrived quite quickly. Only a four star review because the bathroom smelled quite strongly of urine when I visited and is in a poor state, with broken stall doors and soap dispenser.

My husband and I consider this one of our fav places to go whether for a quick snack and a cold brew or a full meal. Food is well prepared, well presented and quick and friendly service. Patrons are greeted coming and going. The staff is always ready to please and the ambiance of the historic building gives that relaxing old pub feeling of coming home. Love this place!

The Red Stag Tavern is right around the corner from where I live. I have never had a bad experience there. The food is awesome, with lots of variety on the menu. My personal favorite is the fish and chips... definitely the best in Halifax!. I have brought several out of town guests there, and they have all loved their experiences there as well!

The bacon and cream cheese stuffed chicken breast was the greatest I have ever eaten. HIGHLY recommend this dish. People at my table had the pan fried haddock and pork tacos. I had a bit of each and I thought they were just ok. Great Nova Scotian vibe with with waitresses wearing plaid skirts. Our server was very friendly. It's a cozy pub environment in a beautiful building downtown. Food came quickly. Very pleased.

We had an amazing evening! The food was delicious, and generous portions (Southend Burger was huge and tasty!! The Maple Salmon was equally huge and tasty!!!) our service was incredible and the atmosphere was lovely, really nice live upbeat band playing great tunes. We had our wedding reception here in the room upstairs. Kevin was absolutely amazing from the first moment that I contacted him. So flexible, helpful, laid back and professional. Great atmosphere and food. Some of the best pub style fish and chips in the city. Nachos are fresh and spicy! Not a lot of assortment of beer on tap but they specialize in Keith's and it's microbrewed varieties and it's VERY fresh tasting. You will not be disappointed when visiting.
Also the brewery tour is quite good.

Food looked awful and tasted very bland. Salad was all wilted. Lemons on our glasses were brown. The grilled chicken had more batter than chicken —it was paper thin. The chipotle burger was very dry & tasteless. Didn’t see or taste any smokey bbq sauce as described. It was more bun than anything. Presentation of the plated food was disgraceful. The place was empty at 6:00 on a Saturday nite in downtown Halifax and the server never asked how our meals were, nor did she ask if we wanted more drinks. I had not been there in 4 years and it has gone way down hill. Worse meal ever, could have made a much better meal at home for less $$. Very disappointed and will not be back. The server mentioned they had groupons available recently. One would think they would make a lot of improvements if they were trying to get some business. I still have money left on my giftcard but I won’t be back.

After a crazy hot day out group of nine finally made it to Keith’s. We made the decision to eat at the Red Stag Tavern. The food and service was off the chart. Emilee was great with the kids. They also offered charging stations on the patio for our phones. I highly recommend this place. We had the fish and chips, Mac and Cheese, Calamari, Sweet Potatoes and an amazing homemade burger.

Don't waste your time. It's a sad place to go considering it's a Halifax landmark. Service was the worst ever and what's the point of having a bar you can't go get a drink at? Would have been helpful considering the wait staff doesn't come around asking about drinks... Can't believe how bad the service is. I'm currently sitting here writing this being charged for a plate of nachos that I didn't eat because they're absolutely horrible...

I stopped in with a few friends Saturday evening and I have to say 100% I will be back, food was great and the staff was wonderful, Emily our waitress never left me with an empty glass, gave great advice with the menu and was a lot of fun. I ordered a grilled chicken salad. It was brought out to me with tiny, dried out "chicken". I informed the waitress who was happy to bring me out a new salad with a fresh piece of grilled chicken. Well what I got was a cold, dried piece of "chicken" on top of my salad. It definitely wasn't fresh. I'm not sure how the chef allowed that to be brought out to me. It was inedible. The waitress did take money off of my bill which was nice but I felt it should have been free. On a positive note the waitress was super friendly and accommodating.

My wife and I go to the Stag all the time..our fav place! But last night, we had family from PEI in town and they wanted to take us all out for dinner, so we recommended the Stag. Her family are in their late 60's and come from a fishing community and are seasonal fishermen. I recommended the fish and chips. After one bite, her aunt, who has eaten a lot of fish in her day, said, "This is the best fish I have ever eaten." Everyone left full and very happy!

I have been to this pub a few times. The second last time the service was awful. The waitress was more interested in making out with her boyfriend at the bar. So her tip reflected the poor service. She clearly had more important things to do then take care of her customers. I went again last night with a friend and was met by the same waitress who made it known that she remembered me and that I didn't tip well. She was extremely rude and called me out on not tipping well the last time. I am completely disgusted with this behavior and will not be back again. I am someone who always tips and tips well. This waitress received a tip that I felt she deserved. It's a shame because the food was excellent.

Very slow service. Food was average. When our order came never had salad dressing, and our chicken club they forgot to put cheese on it so the waitress brought two pieces of cheese that looked like it was left out on the counter all day. Probably would not return.

Average at best. We were looking for a simple hamburger and this place was suggested to us the hotel desk. <br/>Place was empty except for one other table of six diners. <br/>We ordered two hamburgers and some side dishes. Our waitress told us she wouldn’t ask the chef to make the sides because he was in a bad mood that night and she did not want to bother him. We thought she was joking but no, she was serious , she wouldn’t let us order any side dishes. <br/>Food came out in decent time but service after that didn’t happen and again, this place was empty. <br/>The waitress only appeared again to present the check which I felt like saying I was in a bad mood and didn’t feel like paying. Needless to say no gratuity was left nor would I ever go back there.

I always enjoy a visit to the Red Stag. Today hubby and I shared the veggie quesadilla, which was nice and crisp and well filled. For mains we both had the pan fried haddock, which was served with wild rice and vegetables and was perfectly cooked. The portions were very generous, so we ended up taking a piece of cheesecake home with us for later. This had a blueberry sauce and was also delicious. Our server was very friendly and efficient. I have never been disappointed at the Stag.

This is one of my favourite places to eat. The service is always fast and friendly and the food excellent. On this latest visit, I had the stir fry, which was hot and delicious; my son thoroughly enjoyed the fish and chips. The fish was perfectly cooked with a thin, crisp batter. You should also try the pan-fried haddock, another favourite of mine, and the stuffed chicken is also superb.

I had lunch today at the Red Stag Tavern. It is located in the Alexander Keith's Brewery.<br/><br/>I ordered the A.K. burger (no lettuce) ... it was a good burger and I'd get it again. I got it with wedge fries and they had waaaaaaaaaaay too much pepper on them ... I don't usually put pepper on fries but this was a lot. It's not often I see restaurants putting pepper on fries. I asked Emily, my server, for a batch without pepper. The new batch still had pepper but not as much.<br/><br/>Emily was friendly and took good care of me.

I have visited the Reg Stag a number of times and I always leave very satisfied, the service, the food, the atmosphere is always great. My last visit I had the stuffed chicken as wanted to have something different and once again it was excellent and I would definitely recommend it. This is a definite place to visit while along the Halifax waterfront

I thought there'd be a dedicated pub in the Alexander Keith's brewery to taste beer, but the closest thing I found was the Red Stag Pub.<br/><br/>They have three selections of Alexander Keith's beer here on tap, so if you love that brand of beer you can get it fresh here but it's not a lot of variety. There are of course other beers on tap you can try, but when you look at the brewery you think there'd be something of interest here for Alexander Keith's. Not the Red Stag's fault, so as a pub it's definitely fine.<br/><br/>The food wasn't amazing. Regular pub food to choose from. Of course I chose the Fish and Chips because it was claimed to be voted the best in Halifax. That might be an over exaggeration. They're okay, but pretty generic. Good quality fish but the batter was a bit too fluffy for my tastes.<br/> Fries were a nice light and crisp wedge cut variety.<br/><br/>If you want a place to drink and relax while walking the Waterfront or after the Alexander Keith's tour, this place is fine. Servers were attentive and food came out promptly. A cool, laid back old taphouse environment.

Red Stag is the Best. Not only was the awesome as always, but the staff were very welcoming and friendly. <br/><br/>I had the Ol' Smokey burger, which was very tasty. Upgraded to the sweet potato fries, which also comes with a special dipping sauce. I definitely prefer the slim crunchy sweet potato fries to the potato wedges. However, my favorite burger is still the Celebration burger that they started making this year. <br/><br/>Had a great time, the Red Stag covered part of the meal through their rewards program -- thanks Red Stag for the best Birthday present!

Red Stag Always Delivers. On Wednesday, April 8, 2015 my girlfriend and I went for supper at the Stag. The food was great as usual. The hostess kept refilling our coffee mugs while we were there chatting away after our meal. Excellent staff and atmosphere = many more visits from us.<br/><br/><br/>-----06 Feb, 2015-----<br/><br/>Visit to the Red Stag Tavern. My daughter met me for lunch at the Red Stag on February 4, 2015. As usual the food was good, but the service was excellent. Our female server was very enthusiastic and upbeat. Friday before the game. My wife and I and another guest visited the Red Stag Friday before the Moosehead game. Our server Evan ensured that our experience was an excellent one. Each of us ordered a different item from the menu and each of us enjoyed our meals. We live in Cole Harbour and my wife and I feel it is worth the drive on the weekend to have great pub food. I have tried almost every burger on the menu. Don't bother unless it's for a Keiths.. Patio was okay however the place was bare. I should of listened to my instincts that said run. Food was bland at best. Price point did not equal the quality expected. Unless you need only a beer then keep walking as this is not your place. The reviews took me here so I had to post a proper review so no more will be lead a stray.

Why I love the Red Stag Tavern. I live in Halifax and any time friends or family visit from out of town, we take them to Red Stag. The menu is awesome. I've tried the pale ale battered fish and chips, each of the different burgers offered and even Mrs. Keith's Mac & Cheese. If you want a review of the chicken dishes, you'll have to ask my girlfriend. The beer is cold,fresh and tastes better here than anywhere else. It must be because the taps run straight out of the walls of the brewery itself. The mere fact that we go back time and time again should speak volumes alone. There are so many options in Halifax but we always seem to head straight back to Red Stag Tavern.

Its a fun place to dine. My husband and I make it a point to stop into the Red Stag at least a couple times a month. We love the great selection of menu items, but the staff are so helpful and friendly. On a Friday evening you can enjoy dinning with musical entertainment. The atmosphere is fantastic. Me and my husband just love the Red Stag! They have great food and amazing service! Its a great atmosphere and kid friendly too! <br/>We also had my husbands surprise birthday party in their private room upstairs and it was fantastic! There is lots of space and tables to accommodate a lot of people comfortably and the service and food was just awesome! It was an amazing night and we would surely do it again!

Great Ambience. My second time at Red Stag was just as wonderful as the first! I really enjoyed the ambience. It's a great place to hang out with friends, and have some drinks and chat. I am always weary about pub food when I go out since I haven't had many great experiences, but I was more than pleasantly surprised when my fish and chips arrived. It was perfectly cooked and the chips are great! I also had a chance to "steal" a few bites of the chipotle burger, and it was Delish!<br/><br/>It's a cool spot to hang, with good food!

The Chipotle Burger. If you like spicy well this burger is for you. It was very yummy with many flavors, BBQ and chipotle sauce jalapeño havarti and onions this burger is spicy not TNT hot but none the less it is de-lish. It comes with fries however I thought there should be more. I would recommend this burger! :)

Comfortable and friendly, with great staff, safe atmosphere, and loads of space in a wonderful setting, this tavern delivers fine dining quality food and a relaxed ambience that is fun to experience. Laughter and conversation. Good times. With food that is second to none, add a Keith's Dark Ale and you are in heaven. We had the Seafood Chowder and the A.K Burger, and both were fantastic. We dine at the Red Stag often and have never had a bad experience.

Great Beer and Affordable Comfort Food. Great comfort food and beer, the only complaint was that some dude decided to play some rap music in the middle of the afternoon. The management should consider not cranking up the juke box until evening hours when the rap crowd shows up.

Great atmosphere, really good food and friendly service. Also loved the rooftop patio. Only thing is the one $ rating isn't accurate. Should be at least two. My wife and I had(in total): one alcoholic drink, one soda, two apps, two entrees, and one dessert and the total came to $78. So the $ rating is misleading, but like I said, the food, service, and atmosphere were all enjoyable.

I'm a big fan of the Stag. All the staff are great. Soon as you walk in you're greeted warmly. The food is great and the service is always prompt. Wide selection of beer and all at a great price. If you're looking for a place with great food, to have a few drinks and to be able to talk to your friends without dealing with loud back ground noise (unlike other pubs in hali) this is the place!!

The appearance of this burger was very bittersweet to me. I really liked how it was presented very cleanly but still gave off a tavern/pub vibe. The sprinkling of the greenery around the plate was also a nice touch. The thing that kind of put me off was the lack of any substance on the burger. The frizzled onions and melted havarti did look really delicious, but I was just worried that this burger was not really going to have much to it.
