Review Salvatore's Pizzaiolo Trattoria - Halifax

Soroush Yousefisahi
Salvatore's was our first stop in Halifax and we couldn't be happier with the food, service and atmosphere. The smell of the pizza excites you from blocks away. The staff were friendly and attentive and everything we had tasted great including our dessert, the peanut butter banana cheesecake and a decaf coffee. My favorite: garlic bread and tomato soup (I'm basic!).

Very friendly servers and high quality pizza. They were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. They also have great vegan options (including vegan cheeses and sausage). Can't wait to come again!

Best Pizza in Town. It certainly lives up to its reputation. What you will find is not your normal pizzas but something totally different (I mean that in the best of ways). From the choice of crust, to the cheese and even the toppings; everything shows that real thought and care has been put to curate such a menu. Special mention to their Triple Chocolate Cheesecake. Loved it. Really good service as well. If you’re dining in: They’re quite busy most of the time so do expect some wait to find a spot.

Incredible pizza for a reasonable price! Servers were very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere inside is wonderful as well. If you're in Halifax, you gotta stop here.

Went into Salvatores off a hop on hop off tour looking for alittle lunch, being originally for NYC now from Roanoke Va was a bit skeptical but WOW i was thoroughly impressed! They brought out what we call a Sicilian or squares that was just Fantastic, another couple came in and asked what we had ordered the same and 2 regular slices they also looked good.the service was good and servers were personable and the wife and really loved Halifax,Also a good offering of craft beers . Thank you

Delicious as always. Can't go wrong with the original and my daughter had the special which she enjoyed. Best pizza in Halifax I think, especially if you like thin crust. Oh the FLAVOR!

This is one of the places that you experience for the first time and end up revisiting every time you can. Great pizza/ heroes and the cheesecake is phenomenal no matter the flavour. Service is good as well, but be ready to wait a little bit as it does get busy inside.

Truly outstanding and a wonderful surprise. Found this place totally by accident when looking for cheesecake or cannoli for Valentine's Day. Had #5 pizza on the right side of the menu, and WOW was it good!! Even the salad was made with care, the croutons melted in your mouth, I had nothing like that before. The cheesecake was rich and immensely satisfying. A team of really nice people served us, and a shoutout to the super friendly guy for giving us a bit of history of the place and things to taste. Very, very well done, I am thoroughly impressed, you all did an excellent job and made the perfect night for us. Thank you!

Solid pie. Up there with Yeah Yeah's but more choices. Staff are awesome. Venue feels like it could use a freshen but the quality makes up for it. Also you can just buy their dough and DIY.

Really great pizza. Nice crust. Interesting toppings.

From the moment we walked in to when we left, everything was perfect! Loved the atmosphere, the old school feel, service was friendly and helpful. I have a dairy allergy and they were great and could make any with vegan cheese, which did not alter the taste or flavour. We loved it!!

Tried the original pizza and the meatball aub. Both were great. Not the best pizza i ever had but still decent. Better eaten fresh Good service. Cozy atmosphere. Limited street parking.

Amazing pizza at fair prices. I’m not sure why it took so long to get back here. We are here a few years ago and it was excellent then. Tonight my wife and I stopped in for a bit while our daughter was at an event. We shared the Carne Tutto and it was bang on. Every bite felt like another. We split a large and ate way more than we should have but it was amazing. So we walked in Saturday night at 7 and immediately grabbed a table. Some tables were turning fast, others slower but there never seemed to be much of a wait for a table, especially for two. On a side note we parked across the street, not 50’ from the door and there was ample parking which I assumed would be challenging. It’s a busy spot with lots of take out going on and louder environment which added to the experience. My wife mentioned that it was the same price or less than our regular delivery spot. The quality was second to none. Give it a try or like us, get back over to this local institution! Enjoy

The pizza at Salvatores is unmatched! The crust is fluffy and crunchy, and the hero's are amazing. Service can be a bit slow, but it is worth the wait, just give a little extra time.

Great place to go for pizza on Saturday night. Took us 30 min to wait for the takeout tho (it’s busy!) Ordered meat lovers, and the spicy salami just adds to the flavour 🤌🏼. One of the best pizza places in Halifax.

We ordered a large Pomodoro pizza. Delivery was free within Halifax and took around 50 min or so. The pizza tasted good but the texture of it in the middle was quite soggy, the slices did not hold up very well. I would recommend ordering this but choosing takeout instead of delivery to prevent the pizza from getting soggy.

Big sizes, quality ingredients. Insane meats that are mouthwatering. Small area for dine in though, wish they had more tables on the right side. Best pizza around imo

So finally checked out the famous Salvatores that I've heard so much about, and though I wasn't disappointed, I wasn't blown away. Service is excellent, but it was a bit of a long wait for our appetizer ( had brushetta- could have used some red wine vinegar, or something more to oumph it up), as well as for our pizza's.

We had the meat lovers which I wouldn't recommend, and the other one was a vegetarian one (ricotta cheese,etc..) and it was much tastier.

Predominantly everything on their menu is vegetarian, the crust are thin, but good. But, if you are a meat lover, this is probably not your place to go.

I am not sure what pizza some of the reviewers below had, but I eaten at Salvatore's for over 10 years and I have been rarely disappointed. Sometimes the crust is softer than I like but, that happens once in a while. The cheese is outstanding, very high quality. The sauce is delicious, perfectly spiced. The toppings are alway yummy. They have one of the best pizza crusts I have ever eaten. The sandwiches are outstanding, the ham hero and meatball hero are truly incredible.

Very disappointing meal. Pizza crust was gooey and tough all at the same time. It was overly laced with garlic oil and adorned with low quality cheese and a flavourless sauce. We requested the salad dressing on the side but the salad arrived dressed. The people who were seated long after we arrived received their meal well before we did. Will never go back to this restaurant.

Horrible Mess. I agree 100% with gokoh6's review. Also Ordered "The Sicilian" in addition to the "Tuto Carne". Order was for takeout. Have had many pizza's over the years from here. Meats on the Tuto Carne were very dried out..almost burnt. The Sicilian was just a doughy mess!. A terribly bland square pizza. It is just a thick deep dish pizza with a strange sogginess to it that would resemble one cooking a pizza in a microwave....and the horrible tomatoes! These Pizzas are also unfortunaltely expensive.

Such a shame.....

Couple from Halifax. Felt like pizza so we went to Salvatore's. It has been years since I have eaten there. My husband ordered the Sicilian....their " signature" pizza. I ordered the Roger. Well, the Sicilian was nothing but thick doey crust covered with canned, yes canned tomatoes and some cheese. We couldn't believe it so we actually asked the waitress if the tomatoes were canned and she confirmed what our taste buds and eyes were telling us. The Roger was overcooked. I couldn't use my knife and fork to cut through the crust. I used my hands and crunched through it. Maybe it was just us? The people around us all seemed to be enjoying their meal and there was a steady flow of customers. On the positive side, the local beer was good! Hope you gave better luck.

Get the meatball sub!!. For $10 you can go to Subway and get well, a regular boring sub, or you can can go to Salvatore's and get what will in all likelihood be the tastiest sandwich you will ever eat for the same price. You can't eat this thing standing up, your knees buckle! Homemade garlic bread, sliced homemade meatballs, tomato, olives and cheese cooked to perfection in the pizza oven.

Very authentic olive oil brushed thin crust pizzas.

Meatball sub from HELL. My wife and I went to Salvatore's Pizzaiolo last night for a meatball sub Nov 06/13 7:00pm. I ordered the lg sub my wife a sm. when my sub came it looked great. I picked it up to take my first bite and Wow!! it felt like a wood log, it was hard as a rock, I took the top bun off and that's when I almost fell off my chair. it looked like one big meatball was sliced into 4 loonie size pieces of meatball. IT WAS THE WORST SUB I EVER HAD IN MY LIFE.

Great pizza. Pleasant wait-staff

Does not like. Very disappointing. Drove to other side of city to find out this is a store front with three small tables. You can touch the carry out counter from your table
Jenny
I've honestly had better Italian homemade pizza, & if I had to choose I would pick Pizza Hut over this place. Salvatore's is overpriced for the amount of toppings, the burnt bottom, & non-edible crust.

Just moved after living here.... Just moved after living in the Halifax, NS, area for 5 years. Had to decide what my last meal would be. Easy decision, my old faithful: tonno (tuna) pizza. Like so many of their interesting choices it is the best pizza and crust... anywhere. It has served me well after hard bike rides, long drives (including during my move away), and just cuz. So many fantastic options and always a friendly and helpful staff. Buddy with the green hair - you know me well! Tks for the great memories!

Best pizza I ever ate! Whenever I'm in Halifax it is mandatory that I eat here.

Must stop for Pizza when in Halifax. The Rodger is my fave, but I'm biased as a vegetarian. Friendly staff and some of the best made-from-scratch pizza you can find in Halifax.

First visit. After seeing the calm pie marinato on You Gotta Eat Here, well I had to eat here. It was unique and terrific. The calms were flavourful and strongly supported by citrus lemon. It was a pleasure. The wait was a bit long but the staff was friendly. 85%

Best pizza in the city. Very fresh and popular. Great pizza. Not sure how well it would fare for take-out due to thin crust and light style of pizza getting cold fast but great pizza if you eat in.
Amanda
Best pizza ever!. We love this restaurant! The pizza is unlike any other pizza in the HRM. We only wish they a store that was closer so we could go more often. The pizza is hand made and you can tell that the ingrediants are quality. Prices are reasonable. The bread is amazing!!!!
EmilyM
Best pizza in the North End!. Salvatore's make some seriously good pizza. All thin crust and gourmet style, the mushroom pizza is my fav and the meat has the perfect amount of spice/heat. Also makes a mean hero sub sandwich!
Jess Baur
Unreal pizza!! I had a version of the original with spinach, feta and green pepper. The finished product was to die for and I'll definitely be going back for more. The dine-in section is a little small but it's worth the wait or take-out as well! Go check them out!
Nes
Clam Pie Marinato. I really enjoyed the Clam Pie. Minimal cheese, thin crust with cornmeal for a nice added texture.

After moving into the neighborhood, we were excited to finally try Salvatore's. Are we glad we did. Not only was the caesar salad fresh, but it was made with real parm and a homemade dressing. These people mean business! On our first order, we tried the Rodger, essentially a mushroom pizza with Romano cheese. With loads of roasted garlic and just the right amount of cheese, this was easily the best mushroom pizza I have ever had. And that crust! So crisp and delicious. And just as delish the next day. Our second take out order (because it is now the only place to get take out pizza from!) consisted of the Miguel, an olive oil base with onions, mushrooms, and Romano covered with smoked mozzarella, parm and roasted garlic. Oh my. We were a little worried we'd miss the traditional tomato base but boy were we wrong. This pizza was incredible. Now what to order next...

1st visit. Bought the Meatball Pizza - for our son-in-law- a meat-lover. We all thought it was amazing - we'll be back. It was amazing - loved the crust - loved the toppings - the best part was that all the toppings were tiny - not huge chunks that fall off when you bite into it. Yummy!
Becky D
Best gormet pizza in town
Sam Stone
Best pizza in Metro!. Meatball and pepperoni is my fave.
Sloegin
Nice crust. I love the pizza crust - very crisp and tasty. Didn't like the tomato sauce as it was a bit too thick, and the mozzarella was the shredded variety. Good value pizza, not perfect!

Just good food. Atmosphere is horrid but the food is fantastic. You leave smelling like a pizza oven but the food is worth it.
Stephen
Best pizza ever. Was just at Salvatore's today ordered a large original cheese - and it really is the best pizza I've had anywhere, ever. The crust is thin, crispy and perfect.
Let's put it this was - I don't like pizza generally - and this of the few I really like, this one is the best.
Their cheesecake and bread are also outstanding.
Firefly68
Best pizza. To really appreciate a Salvatore's pizza, you have to go there and eat it hot from the oven. Try the Tutto carne or the Bianco.

Best meatball sub ever!!!!!
Stuart Lally
Great pizza though delivery is pretty slow. The flavours on their pizza are unmatched.
Lori
The pizza is delicious! The pizza al funghi (mushroom - excuse the Italian spelling) is my favourite in the city!
Donnalynn
The Best Crust. They have the kind of pizza that is not alot of crust it is all the main ingredients that you you taste .The spices are perfect ,the crust is crispy.
It reminds me me of the kraft pizza you grew up on ,only better.
Kathy
So, if you're staying in tonight and can't deal with the thought of cooking (hell, as a cook I have those times more than you know), give ol' Salvatore's a call. Whether it's Rodger or Miguel, you're sure to make some new friends.
