What an absolute treasure we have hidden away in Bedford. Authentic (not I repeat not Canadian) Chinese cuisine. These are generational learned recipes passed down. My tastebuds were in love. I will be a regular. 10/10

Grabbed some takeout from this place last night and it is probably my new favourite Chinese restaurant. The sweet n sour chicken is so delicious; the egg rolls are for sure the best I’ve ever had; and the Lion’s Head meatballs are ginormous and very tasty. The lady who answered the phone when I called to ask questions, (and then brought me my order when I arrived), was very pleasant, professional and helpful. I will be adding this place to my regular takeout rotation. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Nov.3/2023 We were back for another amazing meal this weekend at The Orient. It’s my girlfriend’s favourite restaurant so I took her out for a birthday dinner and we were once again very impressed by how delicious everything is. The prices have gone up since our last visit but for a special occasion I still feel it is worth the cost. We tried a few new dishes like the Green Beans and the Chilli Chicken and of course we got a few egg rolls that are by far the best we’ve ever had. The Yang Chow rice and the Lions Head meatballs are some of our other favourite offerings. The total came to $155.25 after tax and before the tip so although it’s rather expensive, it was delicious and we had enough to take some home for breakfast! Can’t wait to go back for another amazing meal. ❤️

Absolutely fantastic experience at Orient Chinese Cuisine in Halifax, Nova Scotia! From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with warm hospitality. Best place to have Peking duck within NS! My boyfriend isn’t a soup person but he loves the duck soup. Bamboo boots in the duck stir fry make the flavour so fresh! Love love it! Customer service is also amazing. There was another family with two little kids, waitress was very patient to the kids :)

If you're looking for authentic Chinese food, I would definitely recommend coming here! The flavors were strong and the dishes reminded me a lot of home cooked meals from my mom and provided a sense of comfort. Not your typical "Canadian Chinese" food, you can tell the dishes are made proper with the right spices and flavors and not deep fried and battered like most Chinese food places. The menu seems to be a sharing menu based on the items we got, but if you have a big appetite, you won't be disappointed. Chef Ivan has definitely outdone Chinese cuisine here in HRM! The outside of the restaurant does give you that sense of "hole in the wall" , however when you go inside, the cleanliness is unreal! So don't be taken back by the look of the outside, because the inside is a way different feeling and you can tell the owners take great pride in ensuring the restaurant is clean and comfortable. Highly recommend, won't be our last time going there that's for sure!!

Restaurant is very clean & service was excellent. Food we had were freshly made, so yummy & priced right! It was beyond our expectations. Don’t hesitate to visit & eat lots!

This is our favourite Chinese restaurant in Halifax. We always come here when we’re in town. The lobster dishes are amazing! Make sure you order them ahead of time since Chef Ivan gets them straight from the fisherman himself. Don’t miss out on this place.

Authentic food! Service was good and welcoming. The chief chatted with us for a while. I loved the food is not as sweet as other places in NS. Price is higher than other Chinese restaurants for sure but we can tell the difference. Not a spacious restaurant. Would be nice if there are more space and tables.

Fresh ingredients, perfectly prepared, as you would expect from their renowned chef, who made a point to visit our table to make sure everything was correct. The eggplant in black bean sauce with mixed veggies was a highlight.

A restaurant located on Bedford Highway specializing in Cantonese and Canadian Chinese dishes. The Xmas/NYE feast was a great value for money, with 7 different dishes and a soup. The food also came in compostable containers which is much more environmentally friendly than the styrofoam containers that many restaurants use. The taste of the dishes felt more catered towards the Canadian Chinese food with some food being more bland than usual (salt pepper squid) and some being way too flavourful (the pepper in the pepper beef). Overall, good quality food and excellent presentation.

If your looking for authentic Cantonese food excellently prepared and served, look no further. Everything was spot on, and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

FRESH FRESH FRESH! I could not believe how fresh the food is at this restaurant! It was my daughter's first time trying Chinese and when the waitress learned this, she brought out eggrolls on the house for her to try (the most amazing egg rolls I have EVER had!), so sweet and welcoming of her! I highly recommend this place if you are looking for authentic, fresh chinese food!

I had heard this place has the best Peking duck in Halifax.... The food is great. I will definitely go again to try different dishes. I would say it is my favourite Chinese food in Halifax.

Just tried for the first time. I’m not a foodie but I found that the Orients food was very fresh and felt good on my belly. Hard to explain but compared to other Chinese food it just felt premium. The owner Ivan came by to check in on us, very nice guy. Highly recommend if you want to try more traditional Chinese food with what would seem like quality ingredients!

Do not pass by this hidden gem on the Bedford Highway. I have never had an authentic Chinese food experience as I have at this restaurant. The food is incredible. everything tastes so fresh and made to order and do not get me started on the eggrolls. I will not ever eat another eggroll in this city unless it’s from the Orient. My wife and I have gone here on several occasions, and are extremely happy. Every time we leave the food excellent the service outstanding. you must go to the orient and give it a try for yourself. You will all see what I’m talking about.

Our first visit at dinner time, this restaurant is an upscale Chinese restaurant with an extensive array of individual dishes. There is no pre-set menu offered other than one named "Meat Lovers" which we tried. On the plus side the food was generous, tasty, fresh and original. Service was very willing. On the negative side, other than no offering of pre-set meals (understandable in an upscale establishment), the entrance and surrounds were very grubby. We were provided literally ice cold plates from which to eat our food, We had to have them warmed which they willingly did, but disappointing that we had to ask. They offer absolutely no coffee of any description. The washroom was clean but both sink taps ran only cold water. We decided not to return, even though we live locally and eat out a lot.

Love this place! The food is amazing! I've suggested this spot to many friends and family, and all rave about it. The food is uber fresh, and interesting - you can tell when a chef really cares about what they're producing, and it shows. Whether in-restaurant, or delivery - I highly recommend it!

Fresh and delicious food. Possibly the best Chinese food I've had in Halifax. The Won Ton soup and Ginger Beef, in particular, are divine. The vegetables are crisp and bright, and the meats and seafood are delectable and paired with perfectly complementary sauces. The staff is friendly and welcoming. This is a welcome addition to Rockingham that I recommend to everyone seeking great value, a relaxed atmosphere, and a mouth-watering, top quality meal.

Wonderful restaurant with very friendly, professional staff. This was the best Chinese food my family and I ever had! Each dish we ordered was beautifully presented, colourful and absolutely delicious. Cooked to perfection! We will highly recommend this restaurant to our family and friends. Also, on a personal note, I was thrilled to know that the owner has several graduates from Cape Breton University's Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management Program employed at his restaurant. I work at CBU; so this was really great to hear. All the best to the owner and staff of this fantastic restaurant.

If you are looking for chicken balls that are 99% batter this is not the place - the chef makes authentic Chinese food with real, fresh ingredients. If you’re willing to try something a little different then you’ll love this place!! I will never get Chinese anywhere else!

If you are looking for authentic chinese food that won't leave you bloated, this is the place. Three of us went and ordered four different types of food and it was absolutely delicious. We are going back for sure. I might even apply for a job here so I can take advantage of the staff discount. Yummy👍😋

First time there today and the food was amazing!! The lovely lady serving us answered all of our million questions that we asked about the menu since everything seemed semi new to us. She was so helpful and friendly! She have fabulous customer service! We really enjoyed our food and will be back again. I would definitely recommend your restaurant to everyone!

Very good food and fresh tasting as well. We had the black bean noodles, Kung Pao chicken, Won ton soup and they were all good! I recommend you try this place for good food!

We were searching for a nice Chinese restaurant in Halifax that we could order takeout from (something different from where we live). We came across The Orient Chinese Cuisine with rave reviews on TripAdvisor.ca. So we ordered it ahead of time and made the trip in from Windsor. Seriously delicious food. We ordered the Dinner for 4 and the Hot & Sour Soup. Everything was absolutely lip-smacking delicious. The egg rolls are WOW! Very flavourful! We chatted with Chef Ivan and it's very obvious he takes great care with the quality of the food. Sooo worth the drive in!! Highly recommend The Orient Chinese Cuisine. Big hit in our house!���

Went there today for our sisters lunch as it was one of the sisters birthdays and it was by far the best chinese Cuisine this side of Montreal.. Met the chef who took the time to come to our table and ask us how our meals were. That is class!!! We will definitely be going back and we had a little of everything to eat and loved all of it....If you haven't been there, then go...well worth it.....

THE best Chinese food I have had on the East Coast. Me and my fellow diners had some simple sauteed green beans and we wanted to lick the bowl. We also had the tofu in oyster sauce. The tofu was fried perfectly so it acted as a sponge for the yummy sauce. The sweet and sour chicken was a lovely surprise as it had big chunks of chicken instead of those pre-made doughy balls. I highly recommend this restaurant for anybody wanting some fresh, authentic Chinese food.

We have visited The Orient several times and this is by far the best Chinese food in the city. Their fried rice is amazing and the egg rolls are so yummy! It is a little gem that everyone should try. Great food and excellent service. Can't ask for more!

Delicious authentic platters made up of high quality ingredients combined with fantastic service. Everything was excellent, fresh and bursting with flavour. Would definitely recommend the Bird's Nest. Everything that we had was amazing: Golden Prawns, egg rolls, cantonese fried noodles, black bean beef noodles, and the stir fry garlic green beans. Definitely the best Chinese restaurant in Halifax. A big thank you to Chef Ivan and the staff for making our dinner special.

Never disappointed! Way better than any Chinese food I've ever tried. You can tell the food is carefully prepared handmade with fresh ingredients. I have a gluten allergy and feel very safe eating at this restaurant. Would highly recommend to anyone!

If you like Chinese food, then start here. We were a party of eight and the food kept coming and was absolutely delicious. Good job. Excellent service

I am almost 100% sure that this place has the best Chinese food that I've ever had, certainly the best barring any that I've had while on various vacations. Everything is fresh, the egg rolls have a perfect mixture of ingredients inside; I personally was a big fan of the brilliantly flavoured Kung Pao Chicken. On a side note, my friend and I ordered the Spicy Fish Soup; we got a 10/10 level spiciness and although I've had peppers just as spicy I'm a lot worse at handling it when in food. Soup in particular is difficult for me as I have trouble eating soup fast. I can say that with all of the various factors taken into account that this was the spiciest dish that I've ever eaten anyways, no Suicide or Insanity Chicken Wings anywhere even come close. My friend bested me in this bout of our eternal spice challenge (he took down three bowls and I only managed one before my other food came that I started to eat instead), but the soup beyond being spicy we could immediately tell was delicious as well; neither of us emerged unscathed from the contest though as my friend's sinuses went into overdrive so much that he literally started to get a nosebleed while eating the soup. I plan on going back, maybe even proving my spice worthiness again when their chef gets a couple of the hottest peppers in the world in a couple of weeks LOL.

Amazing food. Good service. When I ordered a spicy fish soup that was 10/10 spicy the chef personally came out to tell me about how foolish that'd be. We had a laugh and I got the 5/10 and promised to come back later to get the 10/10, with some friends. The soup was delicious. I plan on getting it again. The second time I came, I got the 10/10, just like I'd promised. Holy cow. It was so hot it gave me a nosebleed. It was still good but a bit too spicy, for my liking.

One of the best Chinese food restaurants around town!

We have been to The Orient 4 times now. Always amazing and fresh, the best egg rolls and soups, unbelievable home made sauces (especially the black bean sauce)Yvan and the team always deliver. My favourite though, When Yvan mom's visits from Hong Kong and makes Sesame Balls!!!! She was babysitting the new babies tonight and we did not get any - get her to make some and freeze them before you let her go back to HK :)

My friend Stephen and I thoroughly enjoyed lunch at The Orient today. Comfortable decor, friendly welcoming owners, delicious food...we had Stir fry seasonal vegetables with chicken (green beans were really light, tasty and crisp) and Sweet and Sour pork ...again light and delicious . We wish Ivan and Sandra the best in their new venture and we will dine there again, for sure! Additional parking in lot to the right.

Just tried The Orient. The food is incredible. All hand made from fresh ingredients. From the first bite, it was evident that it was different from other places. This is a must try for Asian food lovers! The owner is a HFX West grad 1994, so get out and support local everyone!
