The service is impeccable, the portions are civilized, the wait staff is professional, the ambiance is perfect and the prices more than reasonable. Amazing dining experience; we stayed at the Halliburton and therefore reserved for dinner. Appetizers: the scallops (unreal, delicious, perfect, best I've ever had (53 yrs); charcuterie plate was good. Main course: duck was a good-sized portion, potatoes/veggie sides were succulent; beef striploin was tender and full of flavor; scalloped potatoes were excellent. Great service, friendly/polite staff - lived up to its reputation - thank you!!

Very nice little restaurant in an old house, using a couple of rooms on the main floor as the dining area and the upper stories as a boutique hotel. Very limited menu, with 5 items as appetizers and 6 for the main course, all of which look interesting. I choose the goat cheeze appetizer and the duck main course - both very good, perfect amounts, very nicely presented. A good choice when you're in Halifax.

Excellent dining experience starting from the moment you set foot in the door. Staff is professional and very skilled. We had salmon and a strip loin cooked to perfection. And I mean perfect. If you’re looking for that special date or occasion go here, don’t go to the Keg, Press Gang or Bicycle thief. Go here, trust me, the bill will be the same but you’re getting a Michelin grade experience.

Had the most incredible experience here 4 weeks ago! The food was some of the best I've ever had in Halifax! The wine was amazing, and the service was fast, attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was cozy and romantic. We had the House Cured Charcterie to start, I have the Duck Margret as my main, and my partner had the Beef Striploin as her main. For desert we finished off with the Terrine. It was all outstanding, one of the best meals top to bottom I have ever had. Cannot recommend Stories more!

This place is ranked #1 and, in our opinion deserves it. We were staying at the Halliburton so it was super convenient. We reserved well ahead (it has a very limited number of tables).
After a review of the menu we found we were most interested in the appetizers so we ordered two each: goat cheese salad, crab cake and scallops (x2). They were all excellent, especially the scallops which come from the local waters.
Our servers were especially interesting because they took the time to explain the recipe for each dish.
In addition we had 2 gins and 2 glasses of wine. Total bill with tip was CAD 125.

Whether it's a romantic evening or private conversation, you'll feel absolutely at ease with the impeccable timing of the fantastic wait staff, extensive wine list, and delicious seasonally inspired menu items - I highly recommend the scallops. My husband took me for my birthday and we both agreed it was one of the top five places we have ever eaten. Chef is very creative with every dish and you should try something you have never eaten before ...you will not be disappointed. The servers were attentive but left you time to relax. A very memorable night and we hope to return again some day.
