Little place. Very clean. Food was very good. Staff was great. Really nice and helpful with the menus as well. Good portion size, great price. This isn’t the fanciest place you’ll go to all year, but it’s great for a casual get together, or a date night. Over all, great visit. We’ll be back.
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Fuqing Lanzhou Noddle! We had three of their noodle soups (salted duck, beef and beef bone, and lamb) and watched the chef make our noodles fresh -- from Ellison's flour ground in Lethbridge. We also had the very affordable skewers -- the lamb as well as the squid tentacles. Lastly we ordered some cabbage and pork dumplings for our kids' grandma and she really enjoyed them. There is no question -- we will go again!
Great service and amazing food. Small but cozy location. Lots of street parking. Could not believe the quality of the hand-pulled noodles. All the BBQ skewers and pig ears in chili oil were great as well. Love the price-point as nothing is out of reach. Will definitely be returning!
Walked through the door with our Groupon clutched in our hot little hands. One of the first things we noticed were the hand written signs in Chinese on the interior walls and also a sign out on the street. No English. Wish we could read Chinese. No big deal. The place was quite small and dirty dishes littered the tables from previous patrons for quite some time. By the by, the tables were grouped together similar to picnic tables in a row. You may or may not like that. If you ordered a can of soda pop that’s what you get. A can. No glass, but a straw is included. Annnnnnyways…….the soup we ordered was okay. Limited meat. Limited vegetables. The noodles were definitely distinct, being fresh and all. Would we come back? Nope.
The location of this place is pretty much off the grid. I am sure no one would venture to this area on a normal day (unless you lived nearby). Once you are here though, you'll find plenty of parking space on the side streets. The establishment is pretty cozy. The staff was friendly. I can't help but to think that the food was good but it wasn't authentic enough. It tasted too much like southern Chinese food to me and not the real northern style noodles and tapas. The menu was decent sized and the food variety was there. I just never went back after my initial visit, not even a Groupon would have summoned me back. I'd go back again only if a friend were to ask me, but none of them have asked so far because they felt "meh" after the initial visit as well. Last but not least, I think it's the cheapest northern Chinese restaurant in Edmonton - the cold dishes and skewers are actually affordable. Try it with a Groupon and see if it's your bowl of noodles.
The noodles from Fuqing Lanzhou are delicious and you can tell they are fresh and hand made. The prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes are very large. I ate the first soup on the menu, beef soup, added some chili and it was delicious. The broth has a lot of depth and tastes complex. I also had the octopus skewer which was great, I wish I had more right now. I definitely reccomened going - especially before they get too busy. Right now they have essentially no social media presence. Check this place out!
My wife and I tried this place out on a Saturday. The place wasn't packed. We tried the skewered lamb and chicken and ordered beef noodles. Skewers were very good and flavoured just like northern Chinese street food. Noodle soup packed full of noodles and not a lot of beef but not enough beef soup flavour. However the consistency of the noodle is nice. Guess improvements will come as this is a new place only open less than a month. The waitress told us we can give suggestions for improvement and noodles can be thicker or thinner depending on your preference.
Hello new noodle spot in town, RIP Northern BBQ House. Fuqing Lanzhou Noodle is the latest Northern Chinese spot to open in town. All I can say is hellllllllllll yes. It’s about time these tiny spots have started to pop up. We came on a Monday night and were the only patrons at 7pm. A couple other tables trickled in after us, a good sign, especially because they were all mainlanders. Word hasn’t gotten out yet as there is basically no online presence and they’ve only been open since May 26. Wish I could have came with a few more people to try more items out but it was just M and I for an impromptu, last minute dinner.
