I can’t believe it’s not busier here! Great tasting, fresh sushi at fair prices. It’s my new favourite sushi place. I’ve been the only customer in here on two occasions. Give this place a try people!
A for effort. We descended upon Sabu after a karate tournament...We had preordered the food and most everything was ready when we arrived....only three dishes forgotten but the oversight was very quickly corrected. Everyone was very happy with the fare and the service....We may just have to make this an annual post tournament event...thank You Sabu!
Best place for lunch - if food can come a little quicker. They have great portion size and all the foods taste very good. But service is really slow. I have been there quite a few times with co-worker in the past few months, and with no exception, our foods usually take at least 30 min to come every time... which means we had to really rush to finish it and get back to work... There's only one lady serving during the whole time when there are about 10 tables seated (seating customers, serving drinks and foods, bussing table, and collecting bills....)
I really wonder if they would hire more help just to get them through lunch hours???
Definitely worth trying. This was my second time visiting Sabu, and again, it did not disappoint.
The amount of care and consideration put into the food here is so refreshing. Clean knife cuts, hot foods served hot and cold foods served cold, explosive flavours and nuanced marinades. It's clear that the chefs here really have a passion for their work.
The service was prompt and friendly, and our requests were addressed right away.
We will definitely continue to come back and spread the word.

Best Sushi in YEG. Don't be fooled by the pizza hut roof and the offbeat location - this place means business. The sushi places I frequent don't hold a candle to Sabu. The gyoza looked handmade, each of the rolls had the freshest fish I've tasted on this side of the rocky mountains and the service was great. The gyoza, rose rose roll, spicy tuna sesame roll and the beef bulgogi roll each made a statement. The fish/meat was plentiful and delicious. This is what maki rolls should taste like.
The waitress was attentive, friendly, asked us what our favorite dish was, and the owner came by personally to ensure we were enjoying our meals. We left our takeout boxes behind and the chef came running after us to return them.
I am already planning to go back. Don't change a thing Sabu.
Just had a Valentines Dinner and it was excellent. Highly recommend the rose rose and Gyu Aburi Roll. Perfect location - a short walk home for us. Will be visiting again very soon.
Fantastic sushi! The service is excellent as well, the waitress brought out a deep fried samon roll for a snack before the rest of our food arrived. Great value for your dollar too.

Mmmm. Don't judge this restaurant by the outside appearance. It looked like a sketchy Pizza Hut from the outside but inside is nicely decorated and very clean. They have vegetarian (no fish broth) miso soup which was one of my favorites. Everyone in our group loved the rolls and nigiri platter they ordered. They were able to accommodate gluten allergies with ease - from supplying gf soy sauce to making a vegetarian glass noodle dish for me that was also gluten free so we could all share - and our server was very friendly. I wanted to try some of the Korean dishes but we ordered so much we were stuffed. There was a string (from the dried noodle bundles) in our glass noodle dish that the staff were mortified about when we brought to their attention and they immediately apologized and took it off the bill. The chef came to our table to apologize personally. According to all the omnivores at our table the Rainbow Rolls were the highlight. (I'll take their word for it!) Overall we really enjoyed this place. Being from out of town and dining at a bunch of different places in Edmonton the consensus was that Sabu was our favorite stop.
Very nice experience! Good quality sushi at reasonable prices. We had the yam tempura, Korean fried chicken, tuna and salmon sashimi, Philadelphia rolls and rainbow rolls. All excellent, recommend the chicken with one of their sauce options for added flavour. Kind and helpful service as well! Would visit again 😀👍

The outside might not be the best looking place but inside is quite nice.. The food is great and the server with the glasses is very helpful and attentive, when we asked questions about the food she was helpful and even gave some clarification on certain dishes!
We ordered the Veggie Sunomono, Tuna Tataki, Bulgogi Bento, and the Miso Soup and Korean Soy Chicken. The dishes in our opinion were full of flavour.. Combination of Citrus umami flavors the Japanese cuisine is known for it present in this restaurant..
The proteins were done perfectly, from the soft texture of the tuna, to the crispy batter from the chicken.. Meals were priced decently :) so you won't break your wallet..
Don't have to worry about food being cold, all of them were prepared properly and the timing of the food was perfect..
We wanted to be able to taste our food completely, so We had tea and water for our drinks but you can get other drinks such as soda if need be..
The utensils and cutlery they own have such nice details, as you can see in pictures and everything compliments each other.
Lastly, the ambiance is good.. The service is great as people greet you and thank you when you leave.. And i hope they continue to do well and get busy in the future.. Well deserved group of people that care about hospitality and the service!
TL:DR - Food is great, place is welcoming, people are friendly, price is good, small parking lot for when this restaurant finally gets recognized and it gets busy.
The renovations opened up more space, and the new walls allow for privacy at your table. The food was delicious. The chef sent out some waterfish for us to try - it was slightly smoked and so good! They were low on salmon because of transportation issues from the road closures in BC, but our server provided other options. Great service and great food.
Dine in dinner. Tried several rolls, sashimi and japcha. Korean style rolls and japcha are good. Sashimi is ok. Restaurant is neat and service is nice. Price is decent.

The restaurant wasn't too busy at that time which was nice.
The server at the time was very nice and courteous.
The presentation was very nice (professional) and the taste was very light and flavourful. Not greasy or heavy.
I am definitely coming back again.

Great Sushi for a decent price! Has good Aburi and pressed sushi and yummy Korean style fried chicken!!
Came to the city for work and we were looking for a sushi spot. Stayed downtown but every place closes early or were booked up so decided to look up #yegeats on instagram.
Found this new spot. It's been open for about two months. When we arrived it was clean and quiet, probably because it was Wednesday night. Did the vaccine checks and we were off. Staff was friendly and courteous.
Menu was pretty good. The bonus is that it had Korean fried chicken! Had to try the soy sauce one as an appetizer. Then ordered the aburi combo, the pressed Saba aburi, colleagues got volcano and bc rolls, they gave us complementary soup and butterfish nigiri which was very nice of them.
The food was fresh, tasted pretty good, aburi could of been torched just a bit longer but still had that charr taste.
The location is a bit out of the way and hard to find. But at least it has decent parking. Definitely a gem in a quieter area. Would definitely recommend and try again! Hope it sticks around!
⭐ Hidden gem! Staff was great and place was really nice and simple to our taste. Food was exactly what others have said. It was great, especially the presentation. Forgotten to take a photo of our takeout coz it was beautifully presented. We had the sashimi Bento and yaki udon. Will def be back. Check it out for yourself.
