My daughter calls Justin "the best sushi maker in the world", but that's not all Sakana does best. The food has always been amazing, and the new menu is somehow even better. Fantastic selection and always prepared to perfection. I'd give ten stars! A hidden gem.

This is hands down the absolute best Japanese restaurant! Amazing flavors, selection and freshness for a very good price. Justin is amazing, love this place!

Sakana was lovely! I have nothing bad to say the place. Food is great and the atmosphere was chill. The lady who served was very nice and attentive. If you’re looking for good Japanese food this is the place to be. I’m very particular about my salmon sashimi and theirs were of good quality.

Very cute and cozy Japanese restaurant that the kids also enjoyed! Portions and prices are on par for a Japanese restaurant in Edmonton. Atmosphere was good and the staff very attentive. Lots to choose from and will definitely come back to try different items. Sashimi was fresh, and other dishes (udon, sushi rolls, onion cake) were flavourful.

I was craving sushi in the area and decided to give this place a try. Ordered their Lunch Bento and was not dissapointed! Every bite was flavourful and the value for the price can't be beat. My server Wendy was top-notch; handling 3-4 other tables on her own and still providing quality service. It's hard to find businesses like these who aim to provide not just a good dining experience, but good food without being pretentious...especially on Whyte. I'm definitely coming back to try their full menu! 🤤 EAT HERE YA'LL.

I came here for lunch recently. The restaurant’s setup and service were nice. In terms of food, I tried their Lunch Bento and Yum Yum Sakana Roll. Although the prices for the items seemed high, the amount of food made it worth it. The Bento Box stood out to me for its presentation, quantity and variety of food, and overall quality (note that the sashimi was a bit less fresh than expected). The Yum Yum Sakana Roll was overwhelming in flavour after a couple of pieces.

Very tasty! I've always heard about Sakana from friends but I somehow didn't try it for nearly a decade. The staff were very nice both on the phone as I took a reservation and also in person. It gets surprisingly busy since it's a small place, so I'm glad I reserved a spot. Prices are a bit high but this may also be due to the current state of the world, since I've always heard it was an affordable stop for sushi. Menu is very complex and has a lot of pages to it. Still, it was worth it for the sashimi which was very fresh and the tempura which was hot and crispy.

Ordered for delivery and it was amazing. Honestly one of the best small locally owned sushi spots. Their salmon is incredibly fresh and all rolls were delicious. Tightly wrapped. Good amount of fish. This is my go to sushi spot. 🙌🏼

It seems strange to me now, but we might never have tried Sakana if it wasn't in the same plaza as our store. And this is not somewhere you want to pass by without stopping in! In addition to our many fabulous, fresh lunches and dinners here over the years, our daughter has chosen it as her annual birthday dinner spot for the past 7 years -- partly because she loves the food, and partly because Justin makes her feel like family. When she's sick, all she ever wants is miso soup and tuna maki from Sakana, and we can hardly blame her: the food is always perfectly prepared and delicious. Our all-time favourites are the beef tataki, Sakana roll and rotating sashimi, but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It's a small location with a big beating heart. Don't miss it.
