My family has been coming to this place since 1982. Absolutely hands down the best Chinese food I've ever had! The portions are huge, the staff takes care of you very nice. The interior is old but don't let that fool you. Once you take a bite of anything you order from there, you will be so thankful that you went. I'm going to recommend their chicken chow mein it's like none in the city! But my favorite is the beef chow fun noodles! OMG five stars hands down I give them six
I cant stop eating it..........................So good
We have been going to Double Greeting since I was a child and it has never failed to disappoint! Yea, the outside of the building is a bit drab but man, the food is ALWAYS so good! My favourite is the Peking Pork Chops and green beans with X.O sauce! My brother loves the Singapore noodles! The restaurant and washrooms are clean and the service is fast!
Very good, authentic Chinese food. No red sauce here (that I saw). We ordered the spicy squid and the beef chow fun (dry). So good. We usually go to Garden Bakery for the same but they are renovating again. The server/owner caught our order, we had ordered 'wet' chow fun and he was able to head off our disappointment of not getting the 'dry' chow fun. We will definitely return to try more dishes. It's hard to get into with the surrounding construction at the moment but well worth the effort!
First visit to the Double Wonton House so I’ll mention right off the things that one would notice immediately.
The lady who served us as soon as we walked in and helped us with our selections ...wow was she ever nice.
The place was comfortable. It had ambiance.
Clean.
Washrooms were spotless.
The happy loud jabbering resonating from kitchen made us smile. (thanks....so nice to hear.)
Cash only, so be prepared.
We wanted Kung Pao Chicken and it’s supposed to be spicy so the nice lady said to order #222 which was the “Diced Chicken And Cashews With Szechuan Sauce”. So we did. It wasn't spicy and no big deal. We also ordered the “Egg Fried Rice”.
It was simple, but great.
The order came and here’s why it stands out….the “Diced Chicken And Cashews With Szechuan Sauce” didn’t come with rice or noodles...the order was solely focused on the main ingredients sans filler. Impressive.
If you want great Chinese food at low prices, this is the place to go. It may not be the fanciest place but it’s clean and the food is great. Instead of dumping money into renovations to create a better ambiance they keep it simple and pass on the savings in their prices. Portions are big and everything is tasty. For as long as I’ve been going here, over 20 years, the waitresses are the same ladies. Don’t expect spectacular service but you will get good enough service and food comes out fast.
Don’t judge a book by its cover.
DELICIOUS RESTAURANT. ALL DISHES ARE HOT AND WELL COOKED MIKE. YOU DO A GREAT JOB RUNNING THIS RESTAURANT :) THE RESTAURANT IS CLEAN INSIDE AND ALL DISHES HAVE VARIOUS INTERESTING TEXTURES AND FLAVOURS. 5 STARS MIKE! Always get the special deep fried Chicken wings and pan fried noodles with beef and gai lan. It's delicious! The inside is a bit outdated, but the food is very good. Also it's cash only here!
Hii! I'm Anita~ I'm from/living in Edmonton, AB, Canada. Brings back memories. This resto was originally from Winnipeg and they moved to Edmonton over a decade ago. They specialize in "Hong Kong Cafe style" or Chinese soul food. So we're talking rice plates, noodle soups, and stir-fries. By Edmonton standards, this place is extremely cheap, and the food is also very good. Similar places in the southside for example are nearly double the price for equivalent dishes. Clearly the cost savings are being passed onto customer due to cheaper rent in Chinatown, which is fantastic. It is definitely not a fancy looking place, but if you overlook the "atmosphere" and focus on primarily the food, you will be hard pressed to find anything else that comes close at that price point. My current fave is their Beef Brisket Lo Mein which comes with a consume soup on the side. At $8.50 it is a steal for what you get. As previous reviewers indicated, they only take cash - so be prepared (this is probably another reason why its cheaper than every other place in the city. One word of caution though, if you are sensitive to MSG, it may not be the place for you, as they use MSG heavily.
The portions are huge and the prices are cheap. The food can be a little oily, but all Chinese food is. Noodle dishes are good as are the fried rice. I love my usual yin/yang fried rice with the tomato and cream sauce, along with the stir fry rice noodles. The wontons are decent too. Can't complain!
Had dinner here recently. The food was very good and the service friendly. We got there a little earlier than their regular dinner crowd (post-8PM), so it was a quiet and enjoyable meal.
