Chop Steakhouse & Bar claims to be Edmonton’s best steak dinner restaurant but is it really? I was recently invited in to have a very filling dinner of steak bites, steak, and much more! I dined at their westside location, attached to Sandman Hotel. Their other locations are downtown and southside in Ellerslie. It was my second time visiting a Chop location, with my first being at the southside location last summer. I didn’t have a chance to try their steak though so I was excited to taste what they are known for! Their menu is quite extensive, offering soups & salads, fish, ravioli, steak, prime rib, and chicken to name a few. My friend and I had a hard time picking what to order but our server gave great recommendations.
Had a wonderful experience! This is the first time going to Chop off stony plain road Edmonton. I have Celiac Disease and they did a great job at making me feel comfortable and taken care of. The manager came and spoke with me about the entree I wished to order. (They do have a gluten free menu) While I was eating the Chef came and spoke with me about the meal and how he prep it. Could not have been happier about my experience! I had the Hunters Chicken entree. It came with a chicken breast with a cream sauce, mushrooms and tomatoes. The sides were green beans, butternut squash, and wasabi mashed potatoes (which were amazing). Our waiter (Jordan) gave us top notch service! The manager and Chef were also amazing (I forget their names sadly). We will definitely be returning!
We started with some appies; the steak bites and lobster tacos were a hit. The red sangria was refreshing, but the Caesars are not as tasty as those at the Keg, according to a family member. The time it took to get the food was a little slower, given the very busy night we went for dinner (NYE). My family had various types of steak and I had the hunter chicken. The kale and white beet veg left a lot to be desired, as for me it seemed like a bit of a strange combo in terms of bitterness and texture. Although I can appreciate what they were going for, I wasn't sure about the pairing. The wasabi mash was ok but the tender and juicy chicken with the accompanying crispy skin and flavourful gravy were a hit. All meats were tasty and oh my goodness, extra filling. The fallen chocolate cake is rich and tasty. What I can say is that the experience was worth the visit, because we were with family, and the vibe was perfectly matched. The attn to detail in terms of service is notable and we were served some California ice wine at the end of our visit - for NY and we were given a card for free steak bites on our next visit between Jan - Feb 9. Like I said, the steak bites were a hit. I'd come back to try something new.
