We went to XIX for drinks and appetizers last Saturday as the dining room was booked and were lucky enough to get a booth after a few minute wait. The staff were great ,very accommodating and attentive. We had a half dozen appetizers- the lettuce wraps and short rib tacos were delicious. It was a nice cozy place for drinks and will try it for dinner when we are back in town
From atmosphere to service to food, Nineteen has been in the spotlight in Edmonton’s food scene for years. Having a highly respected reputation in the fine dining circle in YEG, you don’t come to Nineteen and expect anything less than perfection.
First time visiting their Terwillegar location for an early dinner on a Friday, no reservation so we settled in the lounge. Split directly at the entrance, the lounge and the dining room are separate rooms with a thick curtain acting as a barrier between the two rooms. Hm. The room is dimly lit with tall bar seats mixed with some booths and tables around. A little tight to say the least but you get a very classy vibe.
As we were waiting for a table to clear, we had the chance to sit by the bar to look over the menu and to start some drinks. Deciding on an old fashioned. Presentation was spot on, the attention to detail along with flavor profiling was impressive. The standard drink paired with a rock sugar stick to add a subtle sweetness to each sip.
Lobster Dan Dan Ramen. Not usually a peanut person myself, but reading lobster and ramen I needed to give it a chance, and I am so glad I did. The plate of ramen topped with lobster with a mixture of shiitake mushrooms and pickled vegetables, the broth is added as it hits your table. The broth itself had a beautiful blend of nuttiness and a spicy kick to it. Mixing a bite with a bit of noodles and the pickled vegetables all flavors harmoniously played with the comfort of the traditional Dan Dan flavoring added with a new sweet/sour mix. Immensely satisfied every ounce of taste buds on my tongue.
Black Garlic Scallop, bae’s dish and his verdict was meh- average, nothing special. Plating compared to my dish looked messy and not as clean as expected. Risotto with a mixture of red peppers, tomatoes and lettuce with four pan seared scallops placed on top with dabs of black garlic oil. Scallops were cooked perfectly but from plating to taste, something was lacking. Wouldn’t order again.
Satisfactory dining experience, with some missed opportunities. Though this experience didn’t take any of my love away from Nineteen itself I think I’ll stick to visiting the one in St.Albert.
I came here during happy hour on a Saturday around 3-4 PM. The restaurant was empty and all the cooks were prepping for the rush dinner hour or feeding themselves at the booths. What a perfect time for parents and kids to come enjoy themselves without bothering anyone! Our friends and I got a happy hour menu and got briefed on some specials. We ordered 5 dishes with some similarities between them. I guess that's what happy hour is. Limited ingredients and choices but for a great price! The two noodle dishes were good but cold, wet noodles can be too much sometimes. It was good but I didn't know they'd be that similar. I liked the tuna on one dish and the ahi tuna on the other though :) The flatbread pizza thing was pretty decent. The Quebec duck poutine was also good if you can eat it fast enough. The moules frites (mussels & fries) was really good and I could down that myself easily. I can't write a well-rounded review on this restaurant based on happy hour alone, but I'd say it's a nice place with great service. It's pricey, sure, but I think it'd be worth it at dinner time as well. Next time!
