Wow... what an improvement since 10-15 years ago. When I was in MacEwan college (before getting University designation), I did not think of Lousiana Purchase as I thought it was in a diggy looking area. When I had lunch here with my Mom and my friends for dinner, both times I thought the food were meh and nothing to rave about. That I have been here for awhile. Fast forward to this last month (October), my Father had a lunch meeting with someone. The person told my Father that he knew the person and they changed Chef. That made me want to try this place again Man this time, it was not a disappointment rather huge improvement that I want to come back again The food was excellent there you can taste the flavours on each dish such as my chicken and sausage gumbo. There is a hint of spice in the gumbo and the sausage pulls through. Even the bisque was good as it is tomatoe flavored soup as I expected a creamed flavored. The cornbread was good too as it was freshly baked (did not know the butter was honey). The rib appetizer was good too. The main courses.... wow .... so much food and the portions are generous. I loved the special which was 1/2 ribs, fried chicken with jambalaya and coleslaw. It was delicious. The food is cooked perfectly and spices. There is condiments too like Lousiana Purchase's habanero sauce. It goes well with my entree. The other dish was ... ette... uh... etteri something.... cant say the name but it is located the first page for entree and bottom right. I was not expecting much from this dish but after 1 bite... oh... it was really good. The spices used is front and centre but does not overwhelm you. Rice and shrimp goes well together. Even this dish is a lot as there is a big pile of rice with coleslaw. Dessert was Southern Pecan pie, Peach Melba cheesecake, Bread pudding and banana foster. All the desserts are good but it is a toss up between pecan pie and peach melba cheesecake. The banana foster look liked a soupy mess probably because of the rum. Bread pudding is not too bad as well. The crust in the pecan pie was good and crispy as the pie was either too sweet or soft. The peach melba sauce was good you can taste the peaches used in this dessert. The good thing is that all the desserts are made in house. The cocktails and boubon are good too. My bourbon taste was not too harsh compared to other bourbon I have. One small problem I have is the ice being served. The cubed ice used dilutes my bourbon too fast. You should invest in a ice ball to slow down the ice from melting too fast. The cocktails are good too. The service was excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive even the manager or owner too. I would come back here again. You have redeemed yourself!! Great service and awesome food.

I am trying to be critical of this place however there's very little about it that you can complain about. The atmosphere was absolutely relaxing with music playing just at the right volume that you could speak to one another. The Waitresses were friendly and courteous and the food was absolutely delicious. Considering the way down south atmosphere throughout the entire restaurant it is a excellent food experience in the downtown of Edmonton at a reasonably affordable price. I would like to give it an additional star.

Loved the Cajun and blusey Lousiana feel to this place! The food was incredible and filling. The staff were very helpful and knew the menu. I had the Steamboat jumbalya, girlfriend had the Southern Fried Chicken, Auntie had the Shrimp with dipping sauce and all were more than filling and delicious! This is a must eat place if you are in Edmonton for any length of time.

Celebrated a co-worker’s retirement over lunch at Louisiana Purchase. The décor matched the cuisine with just the right amount of ambiance. Our server was friendly and extremely helpful since we had a million questions about the menu. Lots of variety on the menu including mild and non-spicy options. Food was served timely, very flavourful, presentation was beautiful and portions were larger than expected for lunch service, We all had a fantastic time!

It's nice to have a good Cajun/Creole style restaurant in Edmonton. The chicken and sausage gumbo is excellent great flavours the crawfish and shrimp etouffe has that association Cajun flavour to it it's served over rice with a red cabbage slaw.

Fantastic food and good service. I ordered the southern fried chicken entree- mashed potatoes, sauteed vegetables, gravy, and cornbread stuffing are all included. This restaurant is on the pricier side, but you are definitely getting what you pay for here. The chicken was tender and juicy, the potatoes were very flavorful, the vegetables were buttery and still slightly firm, the stuffing had a lovely rich sage flavor (not too dry or too moist), and the gravy was very savory and paired perfectly with the chicken. There was only one person serving, but she was efficient and very friendly. The food came out quickly, but there were hardly any other people dining. My only gripe is that they wouldn't sub out a side for another one that costs the same amount (in the add-ons section.)
