Pioneer house is a Cowichan Valley staple. People called it the log house for awhile. It has a rustic feel but with good food and good service. They have an ecclectic menu with no super specializations but the food arrives tasty. The burgers are usually quite good and the egg's benny on the brunch menu are delicious. They often try a variety of bbq during the summer that leads to some interesting menus. They have both inside and outside seating, with the outside seating providing a wall that blocks some traffic noise and wind or grit from the nearby highway, roads and parking lot. The inside seating can be near the gorgeous bar, or closer to the buffalo head and fireplace. When busy they also open up the upstairs section which is small tables for two people overlooking the whole restaurant. Parking is available from the parking lot and is free. The restaurant is reasonably close to a few bus routes but it will still be a walk.
This log cabin restaurant is authentic through and through. It's off of the highway South of Duncan. The staff are genuine. The special of Maple Eggs Benedict on French Toast was creative and delicious. I'm definitely going to return.
This is a great place to go for breakfast or dinner. The staff is always friendly, efficient, and the food is excellent. They have a great selection of desserts including an entire glass cabinet of freshly made on-site baked pies. The atmosphere is very nice, in a large building made of logs, a gas fireplace, a bar, and wooden tables and chairs. Coffee and soft drink refills are free, and the food has always been good when I've gone there. We go for breakfast approximately twice a month and dinner maybe once a month and have for the last year or so. If you're looking for a decent place to go out too, with great food and good service, this is it.
