I'm a bit torn.
On the upside:
- Very convenient location for me. Close to home
-friendly staff and nice ambience
- menu is relatively small but to me that means the ingredients stay fresh because they don't need to keep a bunch of different things in Stock
- prices are reasonable
- they often throw in one or two free delicious dumplings
On the downside:
- the quality is usually good, but today I ordered an Alaska roll which seemed to be made with expired Avocado. I've made avocado dishes at home many times so I know it goes bad quickly, but some pieces were very dark brown. I ended up picking them out.
While minor, the avocado really detracted from the quality of the meal. I will try them again a few times but if that persists then I'll go a bit further to one of the other sushi restaurans around here as there are tonnes.
For lunch today, NW and I went to Sushi Boss in Coquitlam. It’s just a little restaurant on the corner of Robson and Pinetree Way so don’t expect a lot of seating area. I’ve had takeout from here before but it was my first time eating in. Complimentary Salad & Gyozas. We were surprised and delighted that they gave us a complimentary salad and 2 pieces of gyoza. The salad also included edamame, apple slices, and orange which was awesome. I really liked the dressing. It was was like a citrus/miso combination. The gyozas were cooked fresh and very hot when they came out so that was great :)
Killer Japanese food. Fast service. Friendly staff. Sushi is fresh, their chicken teriyaki has its own touch with strawberry and deep fried tofu with a sweet sauce. Good sushi for Westwood plateau.
Sushi boss is a hidden gem in the tri-cities area. A friendly family owned sushi restaurant that uses fresh ingredients and has a unique menu! We decided to try the firecracker roll which has avocado, crab, prawn tempura, and is topped with a torched spicy tuna. You can tell they use fresh ingredients, and all the flavors went really well together. They weren't shy on the crab meat either! We will be back to try their more unique menu items (we saw a roll that used cheddar popcorn and bacon.. Hmmmm!)
The best sushi. We've been to many Sushi restaurants in the Tricities and in Vancouver. This is the absolute best. They also serve the wild salmon.
Low price doesn't take away from quality. Customer service is excellent, this family-owned business puts noticeable effort into making sure they are friendly and welcoming.
Food is great, our family orders from here on a weekly basis and it all tastes amazing.
Biggest boss of all sushis. Seriously though, this place has great quality at great prices. I've been to all the other sushi places in the area and this is definitely my favourite!

Fresh. Great interior. Beautiful rolls. The rose and lilly roll is beautiful and delicious. Its wrapped in cucumber rather than rice. Wonderful people. I come here frequently :D some of the best sushi I've had in Coquitlam!
Definitely will visit again!. My friend recommended Sushi Boss to me because she had loved it, and from the moment I stepped in, I loved it too! It's an adorable restaurant with a really nice atmosphere. They make good use out of the small space. The people working are just so friendly, and the lady told us that she makes the sauces herself. Everything tastes fresh and sooo delicious. It's priced pretty much the same as other sushi places, very reasonable and definitely worth it. The portions are good and they are plated so beautifully. The lady brought us out some free gyozas and fruits and veggies with her special homemade sauce. So good. You can see that behind the counter is super clean, and it looks like they take good care of their food/working environment. Loved every bit of it :)
Since moving to TriCities from East Van two years ago, we've been on the hunt for our new regular local sushi spot. Sure Nagano and Sushi Mori are nice but they were way pricier than we would have liked for a regular everyday sushi place. We were used to the fabulously fresh and budget friendly Sushiyama in East Van (if you're in the area, it's the greatest!) and were searching for something closer to home. After searching on Yelp and Urbanspoon, I came across Sushi Boss. The reviews are all raving and now I can see why... They are super cute inside and out. The service was Ah-May-Zing! So sweet and friendly! She took our orders and promptly surprised us with a salad on the house! Simple and tasty vinaigrette with fresh seasonal tomatoes, strawberries and blueberries atop crisp iceberg (not watery!) with a couple crispy veggie gyozas! He had a combo for 14$ and yam tempura. The combo was giant and the yam was thinly sliced and very generous. I got the gomae, salmon-avo roll, and some nigiri. Everything was super fresh, and tasty. We weren't rushed to leave and were treated so nicely! The place was clean and super simple with adorable details throughout, without seeming like your regular kitschy sushi joint. The menu was concise and easy to read. Loved this place so much and we're thrilled to finally have our fave local sushi place in our new hood. Try it-you'll love it!
I've read some reviews and not sure what people think when they go to a little community restaurant. You shouldn't expect 5 star restaurant out of little store. The price is excellent, food is fantastic fresh. They make it right in front of you. Excellent taste and not much to pay for this quality.
Excellent people with great customer service.
Amazing service!!! I was directed here by my landlords and it’s a great spot! Fresh and loved my brown rice combination. They really take care of their customers and the taste is exquisite. I will be back for more!
We absolutely love Sushi boss. It’s the little hidden gem in the plateau. The owners are extremely kind and always mindful of my daughter’s sesame allergy!! The food is fresh and extremely delicious!!
Such a cute little spot. Food was good and decently priced. The miso was really rich and kinda' smoky.
Will eat here again!
Amazing little sushi place. I love the May roll. Will come back and quite convenient since my drawing class isn’t far from here.
cute little place in a residential area. Its like the sushi shop outside of your door. Good service and good food I highly recommend it
We love Sushi Boss. We also like the little extras that they come up with every bow and then. Sushi is tasty and the price is really fair.
