I really like their chicken. We also tried their shrimp which was fantastic. I'm in love with their Mardi Gras mustard sauce. It's like a horseradish meets Dijon sort of dipping sauce and it's amazing.
The shrimp is super succulent and the Cajun fries are not to be missed!!! Our go to solution for the freezing Calgary cold. Good that their drive through is open even in the late hours.
Honestly for a fast food place, they are pretty good. If you can't handle the spicy, you have a bad tongue. The prices are very reasonable, and they have a lot of variety with their sides. Ultimately, the spicy chicken here is why I return and they often have seasonal things to change things up occasionally.
The apple pie tasted like a scrumptious churro. The pastry crust was thin and crisp, covered with a fine dusting of cinnamon and sugar. The apple filling had a gel-like consistency but it still tasted like a delicious balance of apples, cinnamon and sugar. I would order this again.
I stopped in here here once before to test out the junk food. I liked it. This time I ordered the 12 piece family package, fries, onion rings and gravy. It was all fantastic tasting junk food!! In a way I am glad they are not in the Richmond Hill area otherwise I would be going there all the time, and turning into a blimp! Yes it all tasted way better than KFC. Definitely would get more next time I am in the SE Calgary. Like most people, this junk food is really hard to resist!!!
FYI: I had one giant wing, some fries and a helping of onion ring as soon as I pulled away from the pickup window. All was fantastic! 15 minutes later at home I had more of the same, everything still decently warm and crispy. All was still fantastic! 7 hours later I ate two more chicken pieces, fries and onion rings with gravy, all was still nice and crispy after reheating in my toaster over at 300f for 10 minutes. Tasted fantastic, to my astonishment. It actually tasted good cold too!! LOL !! Great tasting junk food!! 7/11 fried chicken would be #2. But this junk food joint is definitely # 1 for fried chicken, fries and gravy.
I went inside to eat the chicken and other things and it was not too bad. The chicken has some sort of cleaner or crispier taste than the fast food restaurant, "KFC." The chicken is less oily as well. The fast food restaurant has corn and biscuits you can eat as well. The corn is a whole cob of corn or at least half of a cob. The bicuits were on the saltier side, so I did not enjoy it as much. The service was friendly and got our order right. The prices for the food is inexpensive and family combos are fulfilling.
Stopped in one night on our way home. Got the meal with 8 pieces of chicken and sides. Onion rings were terrible, soggy, limp, and bland. The biscuits were incredibly salty and dry. The chicken was very good though. The coating was nice and crispy, and the chicken on the inside was moist and juicy. The spicy chicken was just that. Would come again just for the chicken, skip the sides though.
When Siddall thinks Popeye’s – it’s the supplement place where you buy giant barrels of protein powder and receive these shaker cups that begin to overfill your cupboards. When I think Popeye’s however, it’s all about the fried chicken. Popeye’s opened on 17th Avenue SE this past winter, while it was to the chagrin of some locals, it was to the fried chicken delights of others. I didn’t make it to Popeye’s until earlier this month when a co-worker and I was in the area. Never one to say no to fried chicken we decided to stop in.
I still think KFC is a bit better than Popeyes. Sad to say more grease and softer skin is a bit more appealing to me. One thing Popeyes is better is the chicken for sure is much juicy but slightly saltier.
Besides the crazy lineup and cramped eating area, I enjoyed my first time eating here. We ordered the family meal: 8 Piece Bonafide Meal which came with 1 side and four hot buttery Biscuits. I tried the Mashed Potatoes as my side and it was covered with flavourful Cajun gravy. The spicy chicken was juicy and moist, though I personally didn't find it spicy but that's probably because I eat a lot of hot food. But the flavour and seasoning on the chicken were great. The Biscuits were fluffy and fresh, loved them. Next time I will try the Cajun fries instead of the mashed potatoes. Granted this is more expensive than KFC but I did enjoy Popeyes and will be back.
