Back to one of my FAVOURITE ramen spots of all time. This time instead of dining in, we grabbed Kamamarui ramen takeout! We were surprised as to how quickly they were able to get everything ready for us. The restaurant was packed when we arrived but we only had to wait 10 minutes for our food.Check out the review of Kamamarui Ramen & Don in the blog post below.

As soon as we began perusing the menu and ordered a couple of combos, we realized that we had been here before, or at least to their sister restaurant on Kingsway. The Bombs were a dead giveaway as I had only previously seen them at the South Burnaby store. These tasty little balls of rice and nori are a slightly ocean flavoured treat and we ended up ordering a couple more of them. Also as part of a combo, we enjoyed their hot and crispy Karaage Chicken. This wasn't the most earth-shattering version that we've had but it's hard to go wrong when the meat is moist and the dipping sauce is tasty. On to the main event, I had the Black Garlic Oil Chasu Ramen. This seems to be a more recent addition as I don't see it on posted versions of their menu. It was rich and garlicky and for my money, a complete success. I also asked for the sous vide version of the chashu to compare to the regular. To be honest, I couldn't actually tell you if it was better or not. I think it has more to do with how it gets seared on the grill although I understand the advantages of sous vide. It was delicious either way. Marie had the Chasu Tonkatsu Ramen ( we never veer far from the basics) with the regular chasu. Both soups had the requisite wood ear mushrooms, egg and excellent noodles. I was happy not to have a bunch of decisions to make about noodles but happy that they offer regular or rich both. We both chose rich and it was! Finally, there was a Mini Mapo Tofu Don. Another little taste of rice with the mildly spicy tofu and pork mixture on top. At only $4, it added a bit of variety. Not surprisingly we left full and happy. This is a comfortable little place with pleasant staff. I'm sure it can get busier here but we did not have to wait on Saturday at noon and our food was delivered to us fairly quickly.

Tonkotsu Ramen: This is my go-to and hits the spot every time. I order the light broth which is still pretty rich and creamy. It is a bit on the saltier side which I don’t mind!

This bowl comes with one piece of lean chashu pork. The lean pork is a bit dry so I like to soak it in the soup and eat it near the end.

I have finally gotten my partner into ramen. So when we spotted what we thought was a new ramen shop by where we live (the Burnaby Heights area), we immediately made plans to go. Although, it turns out that this has been a long standing location, with two years and a strong following. The little shop is marked with bamboo curtains over the window and a single red glowing lantern. We came in at 5pm on a Sunday night and were the first ones in. We were quickly seated only to have the tables around us fill up right after with lone diners and four person families.

So great to have a high quality ramen spot in Burnaby. I ducked in on a rainy midweek night for a quick dinner. It's small, like a lot of ramen places, but it feels new (which it is) and it's pretty inviting. I ordered the Tonkutso Ramen (regular not rich) with a side of the roasted garlic. It was great, maybe not quite as flavourful as some others I've had, but great nonetheless. I added the ramen sauce that they had on the table and that really kicked things up. Soup was hot, lots of noodles and the chashu was lean (which I prefer). Staff was friendly but a bit rough around the edges, but it's not fine dining so isn't a problem for me. I will definitely be a regular visitor.

Atmosphere: It's very unique, tables are funky, dog butts as coat hangers. Has a very Asian flare to the place. Service: Server was excellent, prompt menus and asked what we liked to drink. Food came quick. Heads up, debit or cash only. Bottom line: I've been here a couple times now and their consistent. For some of you who hate bamboo, it's not found in this bowl of ramen lol. In terms of the broth, it's no where close to some of the ramen that can be found in the West End. Having said that, it's still a respectable bowl of noodles and the chasiu is alright. If I'm in need of a bowl of ramen and don't want to fight traffic, I'll probably come here.

Very cute ambiance and deco! We got sucked in by the traditional set up of the store.
We got the tonkatsu don and then miso chasu ramen. We also got a side order of the soft egg.
The ramen was good but not the best. Soup wasn't thick enough in my opinion. The Chasu was delicious though. They coated it in a sweet soya sauce.
The soft effort was mediocre. I ended up just putting it on my rice.
The tonkatsu don had a tomato sauce instead of a more traditional tonkatsu sauce. Tasted kind of like a traditional Hong Kong dish rather than a Japanese dish (baked pork chop on rice)

Overall the food was yummy but not what I was expecting.

We had ramen here tonight, I like the soup base alot. It's not oily like most ramen places. The noodles are of good quality. Though food are not fancy here, but it's simple and the way suppose to be. I will return for sure. Excellent service btw.

Went to this restaurant on a Saturday night, place was nearly empty only one other table had people sitting, so two tables total including mine, this place is run by Koreans, order a miso ramen and a prawn + yam tempura, food was ok, but nowhere near the good ones in downtown Vancouver, don't know how long will this place stay open for, not recommending this place, pass it and go downtown for some real ramen.
