North Garden Cafe Restaurant

This restaurant is now located in Coquitlam, within the Burquitlam Plaza  Did my postponed birthday lunch there..

I picked North Garden for my belated birthday lunch the other day.  We (threesome) arrived about 11:00 am, and were able to find parking right in front of the entrance.  

The restaurant offers a selection of two- and four-seat tables — the larger tables arranged along one inside wall, with the smaller tables arranged along the other inside, and outside walls, and down the center.  We chose one of the 4-place tables.  A quite plain and simple decor, and rather quiet ambiance, it looked and felt like our kind of small, local neighbourhood kind of place.

After choosing the table, and getting seated, our server arrived with menus, and mugs of hot tea.  Yeah, we were off to a good start.

Here’s what was ordered and shared:  (names of dishes and listings as per menu)  

-  Appetizer:  Honey Garlic Spareribs — Beef:  Beef with Tomatoes — Chow Mein:  Sauteed Rock Cod with Vegetable Chow Mein — Pan Fried Shanghai Thick Noodle — Seafood:  Spicy Salt & Peppery Squid.

The food arrived from kitchen to table in very well-sized, good looking portions, with the dishes closely and appropriately sequenced.  It definitely looked like I (we) had over-ordered a touch, but, heh, it was a birthday lunch, and a little overdoing is allowed at such times!  The food really did look good, and when all dishes were on, and covering our table, it surely did look like we were set to enjoy a feast!!  

But how did the preparations and tastes fair?  Ribs - meat tender, coating crispy - dish tasty — Squid - flesh very tender & sweet, coating light, condiments spicy hot - dish about as good as it gets — Chow Mein - rock cod soft & sweet, veggies & noodles fine - dish ’ok’, decent portions of fish, but quite heavy on noodles, and light on veggies — Beef w/Tomatoes - plentiful, tender & flavourful slices of beef & tomato, absolutely delicious sweet & savoury sauce - dish so flavourful & tasty, a major hit with the three of us — Shanghai Noodle - noodles & other ingredients, on-the-mark - dish very flavourful & tasty.

I (we) truly-enjoyed my birthday lunch dining experience at North Garden.  The restaurant is not far away, and with these good memories in mind, I doubt it will be very long before we are back for more tastes.

One of the best restaurants I've ever ate at. The staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Food tastes fresh and portions are amazing for the price. They have very fast service, food comes  to the table within 10 minutes or less. I would definitely recommend eating here, you won't regret it !

For years we have driven by this place and had not tried it, so last night we went with a large group and had a great meal. Others with us had ordered takeaway dishes previously and said all was good. 
Here's the rundown:
Food - we ordered the set menu for 10 and added some dishes. Food was quick to arrive and the quality of every dish was good - large portions, fresh vegetables, good quality and quantity of meat and seafood. Loved the large plate of sliced oranges at the end of the meal. No complaints from anyone and thumbs up from all!
Service - staff were attentive, pleasant and helpful. 
Ambience - decor is neutral, maybe some art or posters could bring some color to the room.
So happy to have a new place to try and a local business to support. Give this place a try.

Pretty good chinese restaurant in tricities. Honey garlic spareribs is pretty good~! i agree, service is really crappy but what do you expect in a chinese restaurant! !! they want faster turn over so eat ur food and leave !!! its not fine dining !! GO to Kirin if u want better service and pay triple the price and they would change ur plates after every dish!
