We are always looking for a good Malaysian restaurant, so we had to try Angie’s. We ordered the roti, hainan chicken rice, and the laksa. The chicken rice was delicious. The chicken was tender and the rice was excellent. The broth of the laksa isn’t as thick as other places, which we liked as it didn’t feel as heavy when we ate it. We would recommend and would come back!

Ben and I were in the New Westminster area to run some errand and he decided to bring me to Angie’s Malaysian Eatery for lunch as I have not been here before. Angie’s Malaysian Eatery is a short walk from the Edmonds Community Center. There are some high rise constructions right across this street mall. I’m sure the future prospect will be good when the buildings are fully occupied.

A little while ago, my best friend suggested we go to Angie’s Malaysian Eatery for dinner. She had been there previously for lunch, but had not come for dinner. Good Malaysian food is hard to come by here in Vancouver, so I was open to checking out a place I haven’t been to before. Angie’s Malaysian Eatery is family owned and located in Burnaby. The space is on the smaller side with less than 10 tables. The eatery features photos of each of their dishes, which makes it easy for anyone to walk in and figure out what to order.

Angie's Malaysian Eatery (馬拉地道小販美食)
泊車:店前後均有免費泊車位
付賬方法:Cash & Debit Only

Hainan Chicken Rice $9.99 ~

Curry Puff (2 pcs) $4.25 ~ 咖喱角的口感非常接近華人過年食品“炸油角”,只是餡料不同而已。唯一扣分是炸得過老,使外皮吃起來帶點苦味 (2.5/5分)

Small menu and portion is also on the smaller side. The Mee Goreng is not available at lunch. I tried both the laksa and Hainan chicken with rice. Chicken was served at the right temperature and very tender. The laksa was flavourful but not too rich. However, the curry chicken with rice was quite dry according to my coworker.

Discovered a yummy Malaysian restaurant in Burnaby! Food was delicious.

The Roti couldn't have been any more perfect. It came out freshly made. So fresh that it was too hot to rip it into a smaller piece. And also not overly flaky like a lot of other places. Curry dipping sauce was flavorful and went very well with the roti.

Really enjoyed the Hainanese Chicken. It was tasty and juicy. Generous portion of chicken for the price ($9)!

My favourite was the Curry Laksa. A bit different compared to laksas at other Malaysian restaurants, but this is a good thing. Reminds me of my mom's homemade kaPoon (Laotian style laksa) which I love!

Can't wait to come back!

Angie's Malaysian Eatery serves home style food, so do not expect extremely rich and heavy sauces. Of course with the exception of the K.K Buttermilk Tiger Prawns, which I would grab for take out if I was in the area. The food overall at Angie's is mostly above average, not heavy seasoned and the portions are reasonable for the price. Moreover, the presentation is fairly nice and you can tell the chef puts effort in the execution of food.

Hainanese Chicken Rice from Angie’s Malaysian Eatery in Burnaby.
Really can’t get any better than this, considering that we are in North America.
Even my kids approve this. Definitely worth a try.

I'm a big believer in the idea that every restaurant does something good and something bad. And if you happen to order a dud, you shouldn't necessarily condemn the whole restaurant.Angie's Malaysian Eatery really exemplifies this. We went tonight and fortunately I had researched online on Yelp and knew to order the K.K. Buttermilk Tiger Prawns. The other stuff my friends ordered were duds. Cheap duds at around $8.95, but still duds.

Looking at the exterior and interior of this Malaysian restaurant, it is not fancy at all. The tables, chairs, photos on the walls and menus are quite organized though. They put the menus on a big wall that customers can see them right away once they walk into the restaurant. They have a 2-page menu book, printed individual food pictures that customers can hold onto each picture to see each dish with its proper name, and printed food pictures with photo frames on the walls.

One of the waitresses (probably the owner) can speak Cantonese, Mandarin and English to the customers. She was very polite to the customers giving out tea or water, trying to explain what ingredients each dish got, and checking on customers' needs.

The food that I ordered was great! The portion was small comparing to some western and Chinese restaurants. The portion looked like the ones that I had in Malaysia and Singapore. Prices were acceptable and reasonable.

It is great that there is street parking near the restaurant. I would definitely go back and try other dishes.

Ordered the Hainanese chicken and Curry Laksa from the lunch menu, both good portions but one order might not be enough for someone with a bigger stomach like T. A liked how the laksa came with kumquats which added a nice citrus punch to the soup. The chicken was very tender and the rice was cooked perfectly as well. We would definitely come back again.

What a tasty and delightful lunch!!

We (our threesome, senior couple and daughter) arrived just before the restaurant opened its doors at 11am, so were their first customers of the day - perfect for us, we were anxious, ready, and willing to give Angie's a try!!  Mugs of hot tea, water, and menus were quickly brought to our table.  And when the server returned to take our order, she brought pictures of the lunch menu items, allowing us to visualize the dishes, in addition to reading the verbal descriptions in the menu - a nice, and very helpful touch!!

The restaurant has seven tables:  three round, larger tables near the wall on one side (each seating six or more customers), and four rectangular, smaller tables against the wall on the other side (each seating four customers).  The restaurant was simply decorated, clean, and neat.  At the very front, there was a large blackboard listing the menu items and costs - along with pictures of same on one wall and the counter.

What we ordered:  and 'note', all dishes ordered during lunch (which = 11am - 3pm), must be ordered from the lunch menu - dinner items are not available for lunch.

-  tea (unlimited, no extra charge).
-  appetizer:  chicken wings (with sliced cucumber, and dipping sauce).
-  entrees:  seria kolomee (pork - sliced and ground, with sliced fish cake, greens, and vermicelli noodles, and meant to be tossed with the sauce underneath, plus, a small, side dish of sliced jalapenos) -- haimen chicken (cold, marinated chicken, sliced, on lettuce leaf, with cucumber, serving of coconut rice, and side dish of a spicy sauce) -- mee gorang (spicy, fried vermicelli noodles, with small pieces of meats and veggies).

The server had told us the three entrees dishes should be just fine for the three of us, and she was 'on-the-mark'.  But the wing's appetizer didn't take anything way from them, and the sauce provided for the wings was just so good, glad we didn't miss tasting it!!  Wow, everything was so tasty!!  We opted for 'mild', when asked re: spice level, and that worked well for us.  The preparations and side dish sauces were already quite 'hot' - but I would say, just 'perfect' for our tastes - providing enough heat with the flavours, for us to savour and enjoy, and not interfere.  Everything was so well-prepared - in textures, aromas, and flavours - and the presentations offering such visual delights.

Here's to Angie's Malaysian Eatery for what was a much-enjoyed lunch experience!!  Our good wishes to the owners -- and to 'Angie', their one-year old daughter -- what a fine, little restaurant you have on the go here in Burnaby.  We hope to return soon - have to try some of those dinner offerings the next time!!

at first i was excited because of the rave review of my 3 friends. then went to see the review a little bit dissapointed, then already arrived and ordered, and so, went to order hainan chicken and had a taste of kolomee, coconut rice, roti canai, and deep fried chicken wings.

the hainan chicken rice is good, it's not served very hot nor cold, but chicken it's very juicy and because it's very tender, and it's so tender that the chicken breast felt like it's layered instead of one whole breast piece. the chicken breast is tasty and inside out it's flavored. the soy sauce was in the bottom was just a bit overflowed, but it's not much.

the hainan rice is a bit soft , but still good and the taste of saltiness and aroma of a special hainan rice is consistent throughout the rice. and the second bowl is coconut rice, the rice is also a bit soft and have a sweet scent of coconut and a hint of sweet in the rice

and the roti canai i still think it's a bit over price in my opinion, $4.5 for 2. in terms of the taste of the roti canai is just okay. and the sauce is leaning towards the spicy taste rather than curry like.

and the deep fried chicken wings, it's too salty for my tastebud, and the sauce it's very unique, there's a hint of sweetness not sure what it's but it's sweet and good amount of spicy but don't really recommend the wings.

and for the kolomee, the noodle is flat and thin, and the taste is from the sauce at the bottom of the bowl. this one is just okay to me though.

overall i will recommend the place, although so far i'm impressed with the hainan chicken definitely :) will come back for the hainan chicken

Our first time at Angie's was fantastic. At first we were disappointed that Wu's was gone, but this is a worthy successor.
The menu is small, but this is a blessing because you'll want to try everything on it! The prawns are a must have! They're still working out some of the operational kinks of running a restaurant, but our order was accurate and everyone was super friendly.

Great charming hole-in-the-wall Malaysian-Bruneian cafe. The menu is small, but I already have a few of favorite dishes:
Seria Kolomee, a traditional hand-made loh-mein from the city of Seria, Brunei. It was served with minced pork, sliced fish cakes, bbq pork and a side of sliced pickled jalapeños.
The Nasi Lemak comes with rice, a piece of deep fried chicken leg and their own take on the Sambal sauce. The sauce was great. I just wished there was an additional piece of fried chicken.
And the chicken curry has a flair of homemade style that comes with cardamon seeds. This dish was very tasty, I would like the sauce in the separate bowl, not together with the rice; just a personal preference.
The soft opening service was mediocre at best, but I have dined there a few times and the service have improved vastly.

A small quaint restaurant. You might even miss it if you're driving. I like the fusion styled Brunei/Malaysian food being presented. The restaurant is quite small and popular in the neighbourhood so give them a call before you head out just so you're not left to wait. Service is slow for now but they admitted to that since it's relatively new to the hood. I'm sure it'll improve as time goes on. The menu is quite limited, for now. I recommend the Hainan chicken rice and their signature dish, the dried lo-mien. Portion size is good.

Angie’s is a new Malaysian/Singaporean/Bruneian restaurant that just opened up in Burnaby. As they’re still working through their soft opening, the menu is still limited at this point while they try to work out all of the kinks.
I can’t think of many Bruneian restaurants around the Lower Mainland, but I understand that it shares a lot of similarities with nearby Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine.
