My husband and I have been here a couple times and its a delight every time. The servers are friendly and the food is comparable to the ones you get in Korea. We were especially impressed with their bossam.
Hey everyone! How was your week? Alex and I had a pretty busy week. With new changes at work and finals starting soon, we’ve been a little stressed (or at least I’ve been) lately! But seriously though, why does stress = breakouts? My skin has been terrible these days. Thought it would be good (or bad) to get some Korean food! Alex and I love Korean food, it is one of our guilty pleasures. I’m personally not a big fan of spicy food, but sometimes I crave a nice, hot and spicy Korean stew in the winter to keep warm.
Yes. We,re Eating Again.
+4
To be honest, as soon as I saw that Pickycat had rated this place as a 4 out of 5, I knew that I had to come here! She, and many reviewers are right! This is a very good place for Korean fusion. My partner and I found the service to be quick and gracious. The restaurant is not large but is very comfortable and modern. We started with Deep Fried Tofu. It came very quickly and was very light in color so that I was suspicious that it had not even hit the oil. But it was hot and crispy and much more delicate than what I expected (sort of expected agedashi tofu). We tried a couple of lunch specials as recommended and we were not sorry. My partner had the Gpanpoong Chicken on Rice. It was amazing! Garlicky and tender and I recommend it to everyone! The shredded cabbage on the side had a sublime wasabi dressing. I had the Gamjatang (pork bone soup) which comes as a single portion at lunch time. There was no room for even one more small bone in that bowl! Now I'm not sure what good manners dictate but this was difficult to eat with chopsticks. I soon gave into my baser instincts and made a bit of a mess (amazingly, my white shirt survived unscathed) using my fingers. There was so much tender pork on those bones. The broth was wonderful and I loved the greens (that I could not identify...minty?). I concur with Pickycat and other and recommend this place to everyone!
Came here on a Sunday night and it wasn't really busy. They aren't that big of a restaurant, so if you have a large group, a reservation might be a good idea.
We ordered the seafood pancake, LA galbi, and the bossam. The seafood pancake was pretty good. It was crispy and had a decent amount of seafood. Only thing I didn't like was that it looked burnt when it came. But luckily it didn't taste very burnt. The LA galbi was pretty good, but it wasn't that tender and large in portion. I don't think it was really worth it for the price, but it tasted good. My favourite item was the bossam. We actually ordered this after we ordered the first two because we still felt hungry. I'm glad we did. It was very large in portion and the pork belly was really tender and flavourful. It was also presented very beautifully. I would order this dish again. The side dishes were basic with the kimchi radishes, beansprouts, and potatoes. They were good and I got seconds for them.
Overall, food and service was good. I would definitely come back to try out more dishes. Maybe come back for the lunch specials.
○good service
○good food/ korean fusion/ I'd go here for their yogurt soju
○social gathering place
○free parking in building
○decent price
○a tad small / not good for strollers
○better go with big groups to try multiple dishes
○if I had to choose 1 dish : steamed egg
○would i go back ? Yes
Absolutely my favourite Korean restaurant in the Metrotown area! Everything on the menu is reasonably priced and of large portions!
My go-to dish is definitely the seafood tofu soup! You are able to customize the spiciness of your broth to your preference and the soup is packed with shrimp, clams and scallops.
I also ordered the spicy bbq pork belly and squid this time and the dish was a pleasant surprise. The dish was served on a sizzling plate and the portion for a bbq dish priced under $20!
Morak also has lunch specials where you save a couple dollars off of their top menu items. Definitely going to go in for lunch next time and give it a try!
I haven't actually been to the restaurant itself, but I have ordered takeout via Skipthedishes. I've had their Gganpoong Chicken Rice, Bossam, Bongchu Jjim Dak, and BBQ Mackerel.
Gganpoong Chicken Rice ($12.95): 4.5/5; If you like popcorn chicken, you'll love this. It was fragrant and crispy, and the meat was nice and juicy. I ordered during lunch time, so they have a smaller sized version, which is $2 less than their regular size. The "small" size is already quite substantial and enough to make a filling lunch on its own.
Bossam ($23.95): 4.5/5; Probably their most popular dish, and for a good reason. The meat was tender and flavourful. The portion was also generous and enough for probably 4+ people.
Bongchu Jjim Dak ($28.95): 4/5; Although not as outstanding as the other two dishes, it was still very good, with the chicken being very tender and flavourful. Again it was a large portion (1 entire chicken, I think), and perfect for sharing.
BBQ Mackerel ($14.95): 3/5; Although I would have preferred one of their meats (specifically their beef shortribs), since I already have 3 other meats, I felt obliged to get a fish dish instead. It was good for it was. Mackerel does tend to have a "fishy" taste, and although I could detect it in this dish, it wasn't too bad.
I have no idea of what the restaurant is like in terms of ambience or service, but based on their food alone, I'm quite impressed and will continue on ordering from them in the future.
Pretty good restaurant. Fast and friendly service. I really like their single person Spicy pork bone soup. Will go there more because parking is also convenient.
Decent Korean food for decent price! I've only ever gotten their lunch combos and they're pretty good. Their food has gotten better over the years 😋. Good choice for Korean home style food in South Burnaby. And their servers speak English!
Morak Korean Restaurant
Pork Cutlet
Seafood tofu soup with bulgogi
I came here for dinner with my friends tonight. This Korean restaurant has a small free parking lot under a high rise building. I came here around 6pm that was pretty early in the evening, so I could get a free parking spot.
The restaurant was not too busy but there were still some customers to keep two servers busy. The two servers provided a great service taking care of all our orders and needs throughout the meal.
The size of the restaurant is small, so their tables are next to each other. It means customers sit close together that we can literally listen to each other's conversations.
We ordered some fried pumpkin cakes (5 pcs), seafood pancake, japchae noodle with rice and a bowl of rice cakes and dumplings in soup. All of them tasted great. None of the dishes tasted too salty. Everything tasted about right. The fried pumpkin cakes and pan fried seafood pancake were not too greasy. I did not feel thirsty after the meal, so the MSG was not too much in each dish (which is a good thing!). There were four side dishes. Each of them had a very small portion though. Probably the restaurant knew that the customers would keep asking for refills, so each dish of the side dishes was small.
I think their pricing was reasonable and not too expensive comparing to the one at Jang Mo Jib. It depended on what the orders were. If the dish of food involved with seafood or fish, of course it would cost a little bit more. I think it was reasonable that they charged extra $2 for a bowl of rice. Most of the combos come with rice. If we would like to eat and order more rice, it would make sense to have an extra charge. Just like some Chinese restaurants that charge extra on bowls of rice.
Overall, I had a good eating experience at this Korean restaurant. I would not mind to come back to try other dishes of food! :)
Cozy, comfy and quietly tucked away on the side street, this korean fusion restaurant serves up tasty authentic bites. There is usually ample parking next door so if you are coming by car, there should be no problem finding parking. Was craving meat so decided on their B3. Bulgogi and wanted something soupy so went for the Kimchi hot pot.
Went to this place in september hoping to find an awesome all you can eat korean place. This place wasnt but thought we'd give it a chance anyway. The atmosphere is very trendy, cozy and clean. Loved the menu because it wasn't huge and was easy to pick out all my favorites. the service was AMAZING, which is usually not the case at most korean places i've been to. We even had a new waitress and she was so helpful, friendly and accomodating. the food was BANGIN! flavor, portion, presentation was on point. The prices were also great! i have been craving it since the day i had it. i would go back over and over and i just hope the quality never changes!!
Open till 2am on weekends! Of course the bf and I are out eating late so we had to try this place. Food is really good here, fast and friendly service too. I find Korean food to b more on the expensive side. After all that and 2 beers it came up to be 90$ after tip. My favorite was the spicy chicken dish. Yum! Calamari was alright, it's just like the Chinese restaurant ones. But overall pretty good here, you won't stink like food (like Cho sun or hanwoori) give it a try!
I came here to try one of the lunch specials, which was the gganpoong chicken rice. You get a good portion for what you pay for especially during the lunch special times. I loved the sweet and sour sauce that they put on it. The banchans were also very delicious. Overall a very good restaurant and service was nice and friendly.
Since I love Korean food, I've been hitting up all the Korean restaurants in my area. I actually went to Morak twice already, and I would probably come back again someday for their lunch specials!
The banchans here are the standard kimchi, bean sprouts and stewed potatoes. However, the potatoes are rather firm, whereas they should be soft and caramelized.
The first time I came I tried their Tteokbokki (3.5/5). I found this way more sweet than spicy, but the rice cakes retained a nice chewy texture. K ordered a kimchi hot pot and chicken bulgogi which both comes with a bowl of rice. I didn't get to try the pork, but I did have some of the chicken. The sauce here resembled more of a teriyaki sauce, so it was quite sweet as well. I like that it came with lots of veggies though!
Today I returned with a couple more friends. Cinders got a Hot Pot Bibimbap with Bulgogi (dolsot bibimbap), Tako got the Kimchi Fried Rice (comes with bacon, ham, sunny side up) and Vince got the Gganpoong Chicken on Rice. I didn't get to taste these but for myself, I got the Doengjang Jjigae. (4/5) This was much like a Korean version of a miso soup, but it's got a bit of a kick with the jalapeno slices. It also has loads of zucchini, mushrooms, tofu, and surprisingly clams even though I asked to confirm that this was meatless... oh well. Anyways, I thought this was light but still flavourful enough to pair with the rice.
Overall, my experience at Morak was good. It was kinda strange that the first time I came with K, we got some complementary Yakult (a yogurt drink popular in Asia) as "dessert", but we didn't during my second visit. Also, a thing to bear in mind is that the staff here is mostly middle-aged Korean ladies and they're not very fluent in English, (the place appears to be family-run..) so just give some patience in communication. They are very nice though, and keen on refilling our banchans hehe (:
Food: 3.5/5 | Service: 3.5/5 | Value: 3/5 | Ambiance: 4/5
Best Korean restaurant place to hang out in metro burnaby area great foods n drinks gotta go try it urself then watch this reviews gogogo cheers
I was introduced to this establishment 1.5 year ago and have come frequently since. The service is great compared to other restaurants in the area. The staff is always friendly even though the waitresses seem to be slightly overworked (1-2 waitresses at a restaurant with 9-10 tables).
The food is pretty delicious, although some items on their menu are on and off. I am not quite a fan of their style of tempura batter, but other than that minor complaint, nothing detours me from this place.
They open pretty late and I come with friends quite frequently for drinks. They have a nice selection of Korean alcohol, although their selection of beer is a bit lacking.
Overall, a nice place for either a night out with friends, or a casual dinner.
Portion size depends on what you order
The bimbibap is small, Bulgogi is decent size . Really liked the radish side dish. Good service. will go again
"As can be expected, our meal started with the usual assortment of complimentary Korean side dishes. This may have been the first time I’ve been offered cold steamed broccoli, though. I should also note that we weren’t served the usual Korean barley tea, getting more of a Japanese green tea instead."

Loved it. But very small portion sizes. I ate half of my meal. I gave my husband the other half because I could see he was stll very hungry. He isn't a big eater.
Delicious food, friendly service.. Morak has several featured menus. their bossam and gganppong chicken are indeed the talk of the town. each of them is huge enough to share between 2-3 people. they open late at night so i would recommend here for late night munchies and drinking. cozy restaurant, clean and tasty food, friendly customer service, and yes, I would def. come back next time. It was packed last time i visited, so now i know i should make a reservation for weekend dinner especially tho...
Good food, but small portions. We decided to try this place for their lunch specials.
Upon reviewing their menu, we realized that their lunch specials are pricier than most other korean places in the area. We tried the kimchi fried udon and bibimbap. The sides dishes were very tasty and fresh. The Kimchi Fried udon was a good portion of food and very tasty. The bibimbap was on the smaller side but still very tasty.
Customer service was very friendly. I would come again.
...this restaurant is quite hidden, it is right behind the Lao Shan Dong small but neat. We went here for lunch, they have a wide variety of choices for lunch the price is reasonable as well L8 Hot pot bibimbap with bulgogi - $10.95 - B+ Carrots, zucchinis, bean sprouts, mushrooms, daikon, fried egg, ground beef served on rice everything is cut nice and small the quantity is just right for me;
I wasn't sure if it was going to be worth the $23, but it SO was!! This was delicious!! I probably ate 3 quarters of it by myself hehe since my mom had the japchae and bibimpap all to herself! The outer rim of the pork belly is layered with a sweet-savoury sauce which totally made my mouth water. The pork belly was oh so tender, with just the right amount of fat:lean ratio. The middle is filled
Upon arriving, I noticed a sign that mentioned checking in to their Facebook page for a free dish of spicy rice cake stew (dukbokki) so that's exactly what I did after being seated. After trying the Onejo Maeun Bossam (spicy pork belly) at Potter's Garden a while back, I really wanted to find a place that had something similar. Lo and behold, I found it here and immediately had to get the Bossam ($23.95). This came in a huge plate and should clearly be shared among two or more people. The slices of pork belly just falls apart in your mouth and was flavourful without being salty, while the green onion salad was refreshingly spicy and went well with the meat. If you've never had this, you are missing out. My boyfriend decided on the Chicken Bulgogi ($12.95), which comes with a side of rice. Other than the fact that the chicken was chopped in rather small pieces, the spicy house spe
The chicken was perfectly fried with a crispy exterior and moist meat on the inside. There was a plentiful amount of small pieces of chicken but I felt that the rice was just plain
Next to the cash register on a slightly obscured chalkboard, there is mention of a special deal. If you check-in at Morak, you receive a free small tteokbokki (sometimes spelled ddeokbokki)
