Kilala Sushi is run by a Japanese husband and wife duo with no other staff. The entrance to this place is a bit hidden and inconspicuous because it is covered behind a bush. The dine in area is quite small, but they do have a really big kitchen in the back.
Rumour is that they make tamago for many restaurants around town in the kitchen, and it’s pretty damn good tamago!
Sushi Bar Kilala has been on my list of Japanese mom and pop spots to try for ages. Seriously, this place is right up my alley. It’s small, prices are fair and run by an older Japanese couple. It’s close by to Chez Christophe. The inside is small with four seats at the sushi bar and 6 tables. Service is friendly, sweet and attentive. Love how they drop off a whole pot of green tea for the table. Note: they don’t take reservations.
I must admit, even though I only live a few blocks away from Kilala Sushi Bar, I’ve only recently discovered this hidden gem. This small hole-in-the-wall is run by a husband and wife team. The husband is the sushi chef and the wife serves the food. Be prepared to wait for food as it’s just one chef, but the food is worth the wait. Everything is meticulously prepared and carefully presented.

With the uni (sea urchin), we were in for a treat as we learned from the sushi chef that the uni had just arrived earlier that morning. There was a generous amount of uni in the nigiri, and it was very rich and creamy. The sushi rice was well-packed and had ample flavour. The Hotategai Nigiri (scallop) had a sweet flavour and a very slight tinge of
Kilala has been in the North Burnaby neighbourhood for about 10 years now. After all that time, I finally came here for a visit with M. It is a small sushi bar, so it can get pretty busy around dinner time. The outside of the shop may not look like much but their sushi is delicious. They started us off with some tea and even gave us a whole pot of it so we could refill it ourselves.

Tamago was nothing like other restaurants. I loved the layers of the egg and how it towered over the ball of sushi rice
Hokkaido Scallop Nigiri was really fresh and the pieces of scallop were very plump.
Unagi Battera with eel on top of pressed sushi rice. I love the car on the unagi and its so flavourful. It's a pricey item to order, but its so good.
Kilala is owned by 2 very sweet Japanese couple. Their nigiri is always to perfection and their rice is the perfect hardness with right amount of vinegar. They always get uni in right when season start. My family orders take out from them 2 or 3times a month. The menu is simple and the restaurant is quite small so it's more of a take out place. But I highly recommend their sushi.
It's simple sushi that taste great. A very small place run by a couple. Sushi is made fresh and the fish quality is great. My favorite is the Negitoro and Spicy Tuna Roll.
Neighbourhood gem. The casual ambiance and good food makes this location a must for any day and anytime Japanese food craving. They offer take-out and eat-in. Highly recommend the Chirashi don ...
