I've been there a few times. Also in pandemic period,we've ordered their bento box twice.
Every meal is so tasty! Authentic japanese cuisine. Better make a reservation in advance if you hope dine in. Sushi, sashimi, and ever a la carte menu is fresh. Highly recommend!
Grayson and I don’t go out for anything too fancy very often because it’s just not who we are but every once in a while we decide to go for something different. This was one of those days. STEM Japanese Eatery has been on my mind for a while now but there hasn’t been a good time for us to go until now. STEM is pretty small on the inside with a few bar spots and some tables scattered throughout the restaurant. The day we visited there was a larger party so most of the tables were taken up so we were glad we made a reservation ahead of time.
Never thought that we could have a Japanese restaurant comparable to those izakaya in Vancouver downtown in such a dingy neighborhood in Burnaby. Too bad it opens only for dinners. Besides the regular menu, there is a 2 page one for Autumn which means the menu won't be same old same old. This restaurant doesn't even have a business sign out top but business is brisk and reservation is definitely recommended. All food items are yummy and the Chilliwack pork jowl is exceptional. This place is pricey but worth it. Will be going again soon.
My guest and I stumbled across this restaurant the last time we visited the Royal Oak area and were looking for a place to dine at. But then it was a Monday, the only day they are closed. Therefore we decided to make it our next dinner destination together, so here we were a month later. My dining companion was smart to make a reservation, and a good thing too as the space is a smaller one, and today there was a larger party taking up all the tables by the window. Without any blinds you get a look directly into the restaurant. A small chalkboard and their branded tote bags hanging in the window marks the space. And within, each employee wears a branded tee shirt as their uniform, as we entered they greeted us in unison.
Stem Japanese Eatery is one of the latest izakaya restaurants that’s opened up in Burnaby, in the former Jules Cafe location on Rumble St. Although there are some fairly good sushi restaurants nearby such as Makoto and Asa Sushi, Stem is far from a simple sushi restaurant. Having just returned from our trip to Japan last year (and having a great meal at Kaikaya by the Sea), I’ve been eagerly waiting to try Stem. The problem is that they only open for dinner service.
