Absolutely incredible broth. This iekei style really is an excellent balance of elegant flavour & creaminess. Toppings are simple, but when the bowl is so good, you barely even notice (4.5/5).

I've tasted better ramen out there but I really like the lunch special and it's price. I come here with coworkers sometimes. Really good place to come out and have a chat.

Heard many good things about this ramen shop near metro town. I have never heard of iekei style ramen before since most places I go to are tonkatsu style. But it was actually quite delicious!! I had the house special which is actually their shoyu ramen and it's one of the best tasting shoyu ramen that I've tried so far! I'll be back for sure.

This will be our regular ramen shop around metrotown! Its location is central and just on Kingsway. The soup is the best among the whole bowl of ramen. It is rich and full of favor! This shop also allows you to choose the hardness of the noodles. I always prefer the harder one :) Their size is also quite generous. I ordered a medium, as I was starving. Medium is 1.5 of their regular. I could barely finished my bowl. One thing that can be improved is their cha siu (pork). It is very ordinary cha siu with not much favor and quite lean. If there is an option I would love to order a plain ramen coz their soup is really good!

Their soup bases are so unique in the sense that you can add your adjust it to suit your own taste: add your own ginger, chili bean paste and garlic. One of the best ramen places I’ve had!

After catching a late afternoon showing of Ready Player One at Metrotown, which by the way was FANTASTIC, I was famished and was going to hit up one of those awesome joints near Joyce and Kingsway…until I got one of those dreaded Translink Alert texts “Expo Line currently experiencing delays…”. So I decided to eat around the mall instead, and I had heard interesting things about Yaguchiya Ramen and how they’re an authentic chain from Japan.

Another ramen spot by Metrotown. I had the Shoyu Ramen and bf had the Spicy Ramen. We both got the Medium size. I loved the amount of noodles it came with (no need to get extra). The broths weren't too thick and quite flavourful. The chashu could've been fattier but overall, we enjoyed it. I still like Jinya better for that area, but nice to know there's another option if waits are too long

Last year, a new ramen shop opened up in the former location of Seoul Cafe on Kingsway, across from Metropolis at Metrotown. I know that’s not too unusual since 3-4 new ramen shops opened up in this area around the same time, but in this case, I’m referring to Yaguchiya Ramen which is a small chain of iekie-style (house-type) ramen originating in Yokohama, Japan.

Good Iekei style ramen which is true to it's Yokohama roots. Soup is perfect and noodle portion is amazing. I've become a regular for lunch.

We had visions, my partner and I, of taking the walk along the water from Waterfront Station to Denman Street for lunch but, oh man the wind was cruel. We needed to get from a sky train station to a nearby bowl of soup! So Yaguchiya fit the bill, but just barely (and from Metrotown Station not Waterfront by the way.) ! I mean it was a cold day! Yaguchiya is a slightly humbler, smallish but pleasant version of the impressive Ramen places downtown. It roots remain fine though going back to Yokohama in 1996. The broth here is a mix of pork and chicken and my partner found it preferable to the richer, pork only broths of some other places. We had one Shoyu Ramen and one Yaguchiya Special Ramen, the difference being an egg, an extra piece of chashu and leek in the special. The menu says that there are a few options as to noodle firmness, broth richness etc. but we were not offered these and its just as well as I am easily confused. The egg itself was chilly in the middle (did not come split but whole) which was a little disappointing. I tried their recommendation of garlic, ginger, pepper paste, vinegar and black pepper additions and found it to be a fine recommendation! We also had a small Kakuni Bowl on the side. The braised pork was luxurious. Nice people. We sat comfortabley at the front window and enjoyed watching the world go by. Not a bad option if you are at Metrotown.

This is the best ramen place in Burnaby.....PERIOD.  The place is run by Japanese (so you know what ramen should be like).  People complaining should just stick with the mainstream Jinya, Riajin, etc....but authentic ramen lovers should know what ramen should be like.  I visit this place at least once a week and always satisfied....and the people running the place are the nicest people you will ever meet.

Another cold winter day calls for another bowl of warm and cozy ramen. This time we were off to Yaguchiya ramen located right across from Metrotown. Yaguchiya ramen is a chain that came all the way from Japan so with that in mind, we had high hopes for the food here. The menu is made up of the usual offerings consisting of miso, shoyu, shio, and vegan ramens. Unlike most ramen joints, you are able to choose between regular, medium and large sizes for your bowls in addition to having the option of adding in extra noodles and toppings for a surcharge. They also allow you to customize your order by choosing noodle tenderness (soft or hard), broth (light or dark), and oil content (a little or regular).

A very special ramen place in Burnaby. Burnaby doesn't have a lot of good ramen restaurants. There is a few but I personally think that this one is the best in this neighbourhood so far.

There is street parking (with parking meters) on Kingsway or there are some free street parking on Hazel Street.

This ramen restaurant is not very big but their turnaround time of each table is very fast, so customers don't need to wait for a long time for a table. We only waited for about 10 mins to get a table. The servers let us order the food ahead of time. When we sat down, we didn't have to wait for our food. That was great. Their service was excellent. All servers were very friendly and polite with smile.

Their menu has ramen itself or it comes with combos. My sister and I ordered a bowl of special ramen and a bowl of miso ramen. Both ramen were the regular size but we felt that it was good enough. The portion was quite big even though it was a regular size. Both ramen tasted great! We just forgot to ask for less oil. We added their special garlic to the soup base. I loved the firmness of ramen.

I would love to come back and try other ramen and order their combos.

I would say this place is my go to ramen spot in Burnaby. Even better than some downtown places. It feels really 'at home' here and that's what I like. Not like another chain or franchise restaurant. Their specialty is the iekei ramen, which is pork and chicken broth base (basically a tonkotsu), so definitely a taste that I enjoy.

Pros:
Nice thick noodles, good texture
lean chasu meat (with the option to order the more fatty meat, kakuni)
Reasonable price
Japanese owned and runed (I was served by the Japanese owner and chef)
Friendly staff

Cons:
Gets busy fast
Plain interior (but staff mentioned they will decorate soon)

Vancouver is no stranger to Ramen. With over 10 different ramen restaurants and 3 franchises. Yaguchiya is a family own ramen restaurant with multiple locations in Japan. Make no mistake however, it isnt a big box restaurant like Jinya or Marutama but it serves Ie-Kei (Homestyle) ramen with value and taste in mind.

Finding Yaguchiya was not an easy time as the location was tucked away in a secluded location. Welcomed by patrons with my friend looking curiously at the menu. Greeted by a no Frills interior we were served tea which my friend remarks its well steeped as it wasnt too bitter tasting. but it is the ramen we talk about so I ordered a shoyu, noodles were nice and thick like how I like my noodles and the cha shu was a mix of fatty and lean meat. The egg had a nice time to marinade as well and the broth was a blend of beef and chicken broth which gave it complexity. As a shole the Shoyu Ramen was a good bowl of noodles at an affordable price of 9 dollars.

If you are looking for a hip trendy place for ramen this may not be a recommended place but as a nofrills experience Yaguchiya has the bases covered

The slow proliferation of Japanese-run ramen places has reached the Metrotown area in Burnaby. Yaguchiya Ramen is currently in soft-opening phase but the shoyu ramen I tried already tasted like it hit the mark right out of the gate. It’s a tiny place that seats ~16 people but I can already tell they’re gonna be busy once word gets out. Glad to see real Japanese ramen this far out of downtown.

Finally, a serious ramen contender has landed in south Burnaby. If you live there, a reason now exists to avoid the downtown trenches for parking, traffic, and lineups as Yaguchiya ramen has stepped out of Japan after 20+ years in the biz, and expanded onto the mean streets of Kingsway, across from Metrotown! They present to you, an authentic Yokohama ramen in Burnaby.

Go visit their website and watch the video of the Burnaby staff downing a bowl of goodness in the motherland of Yokohama, lucky them! I was lucky enough to chat and the male waiter was hilarious, joking that I should start working there when he returns to visit family soon. I WOULD.

Let’s get down to business. Why are you going to bother with this place since the decor is non-existent (yet), the menus are not up to snuff (different egg in pictures), and the high chairs are wobbly (so don't rock in it!). But that’s where the bad stops and the good begins...

Yaguchiya ramen serves iekei style noodles based out of Yokohama. This means a combo of shoyu and tonkotsu. But best of all is their house rendered chicken oil, which puts many ramen houses in town to shame.

There are 6 noodle selections and most come with nori, shashu, and spinach (except the vegan option). The only bowl that comes with an egg is the house special so make sure to order one if you are all up in that eggporn. Aside from choosing the size of your bowl, you can customize the noodle's firmness, soup taste, and amount of oil. Furthermore, they provide a tray with garlic, ginger, vinegar, and chilli bean paste. A sign hangs on the wall suggesting how much of each to put in.

I ordered: small shio, medium noodle firmness, little oil, strong taste, an egg and kakuni (braised pork belly). More vinegar entered my bowl than suggested because of the strong taste preference.

Don’t let the hardboiled egg on the menu fool you, it’s soft-boiled irl, thank heavens! The chashu was simple yet tender, and having the kakuni really took the meat game to the next level. I’m indifferent towards the type of noodle but there is no soapy taste, so that is always a plus. Most of all, the soup was so tasty… so much flavour yet not the MSG kind. Either I must go back and have a bowl of iekei house special, or something off the second page menu.

There are tonnes of authentic Japanese ramen in the city and everybody has their favourites. Try this Yokohama style bowl in Burnaby before the horde and let me know. Thanks for reading champ!
