One of the best spots in Brooklin. Chef Melissa is amazing. You have to try the truffle popcorn, I have dreams about it. The menu changes often as it is all locally sourced. Everything I have tried has always been fantastic. Great craft beers on tap.
Really nice to look forward to brunch at the bistro with my church family every Sunday after the service. We find it very welcoming and the coffees are hot and full and are our plates. Our table grows every week.
Best food in Durham Region with service to match. I am a returning customer and each time I sit down I am even more impressed than the last visit. The ambiance is like nowhere else in all of Durham Region; such a beautiful building! The professional yet personal staff make me feel very warm and welcome each time. On top of all of that the food is delicious and consistent for a very fair price.

Very impressive. We went in a group of 6 last night. Great atmosphere. Staff were excellent. Food is very fresh with seasonal and local ingredients. Between the 6 of us, we were able to try a little bit of everything. No dish was a disapointment. Apps were remarkable. Mains were delicious. Will totally go back many times.
Exceptional Atmosphere and Dining Experience. 1847 Bistro is an all around, perfect dining experience. My husband and I got married at the bistro a couple weeks ago and all the guests are still raving about spectacular everything was, some of them have already been back for dinner! It was a perfect spot to have an intimate family event.They have created an ambiance in the restaurant that makes you want to return for every meal! Everyone at the bistro was so friendly and accommodating, we couldn't have been happier. Chef Rob and Pastry Chef Janine did a fabulous job, the food was divine. I can not say enough about have amazing the food was. Service was awesome, they were very attentive - making sure everyone was happy and the guests had everything they needed. We certainly will be returning for many more fabulous meals !!
Finally. Its great to find these hidden gems in durham. this is a great place to take a date, have a business meeting, or just relax with family or friends. The food is high quality. Had the beet salad, and the gravalx and they were both outstanding. Enjoyed the lamb shank and my date had the Arctic char, both were done very well presented beautifully and cooked to perfection. This place is a must try for anyone in need of a great dining experience.
It's about time we had an upscale restaurant. People must understand that this is high quality Canadian grown food. Great food, great staff, and hell of venue. Patio is gorgeous. Just a great place to eat.

A long awaited surprise. In Brooklin there have been 3 myths that have eluded mankind. Are we alone in this universe? Is there life after death? And will the 1847 Bistro open?
Over 2 years now I have anticipated this mythical opening. The stories surrounding this establishment had it the topic of conversation every couple months. There were rumours of fortune as well as rumours of tragedy. These tales increased my interest even further. This is the first restaurant I have had the pleasure of anticipating that was so shrouded in mystery and expectation. In the end I was worried that it would not open or that an impossible standard had been set that could never be met.
I may never know if we are alone in the universe or if there is life after death but I can say with surety that the Bistro is indeed open for business.
I have now had two visits to this establishment and found that both visits have surprisingly exceeded my expectations. Not only did the mystery increase with intended lunch and special introductions from an obviously gifted chef. I was also given a tour of a beautifully built patio that is intended to launch this summer with live entertainment. I cannot wait!
The building is beautifully decorated and we had the pleasure of meeting two of the owners who came by to introduce themselves and request feedback. How refreshing! I found it created a comfortable atmosphere immediately. The service we received was exceptional as well. Our servers Danielle and Adam were both light hearted, charming and attentive. They made the whole experience very pleasant.
On our first visit we had intended just to sample a couple appetizers. Six appetizers (and one belt notch) later we had full intentions of coming back to order entrees. The food was incredible. Everything we tried was well balanced with an excellent presentation and cooked to perfection. The chef is obviously very talented and did an excellent job with the menu.
On our second visit we went with friends and all intentionally ordered different entrees just so we could sample as much as possible. We have now sampled half the menu and have yet to be disappointed. We have full intentions of sampling all the other dishes. It is a credit to the chef that I plan on eating no where else until I do so.
The chef at 1847 may very well be the best kept secret in Whitby - and he is located in Brooklin of all places. A must try for food lovers.
Friday night delight. I booked a reservation for 14 friends including myself this past friday. We had a completely wonderful time. We were greeted at the door by the owner who was smiling . Our tables were put together quickly , our server Ryan was fabulous. Everyone ordered something different and everything was delicious including the desert selections. The decor was both charming and modern. All in all, a perfectly enchanting evening. I don't give points easily but this was a definite five out of five .... and they have a patio hidden from view which will be open soon! Can't wait. Cheers! Cynthia
Once a month, I get together with my high school English teacher Ms. B (yes, I was that nerd in high school). And since we both live to the East of the city, we usually don’t venture downtown for our monthly gathering. Having tried most of the reputable restaurants in Durham, I was starting to get worried that I might be in a bit of a rut for restaurant choices. I stumbled across the Whitbylicious lineup and found 1847 Wine & Beer Bistro . 1847 doesn’t have anything to do with its street address; it refers to the year. One of the first things you notice when you drive onto Baldwin Street in Brooklin, Ontario is how historic the buildings look. It gives the strip charm very much the same way Unionville does (although right now it looks more like a blizzard tore through it with all the ongoing construction). The best Mac & Cheese I've ever enjoyed - comes with bacon or pulled pork - either is delicious but my personal favourite is bacon.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food at a reasonable price! The chef Raj is very approachable and takes great care in preparing and cooking every meal fresh. Always a pleasure for the stomach and soul eating at the Baldwin Bistro! Highly recommend!
Came for lunch. Was delicious! I’m gluten free and the server and chef were able to work with me to ensure I had a safe and delicious experience. I had the pizza. Others at my table had the wrap, fish tacos and mussels. All loved their food.
Always friendly staff, always a friendly experience! Love this joint. Whether I'm there over lunch hour to make a few calls, stop in for a pint, or have a meal with my family, these guys are always engaging and accommodating. New chef and new hours as of a week ago, so if you haven't been lately, have another look! Gem amongst Brooklin downtown. Keep it up!
The Baldwin Bistro is a great restaurant in Brooklin - we love it here. It has everything - delicious fresh food, extensive menu, wonderful atmosphere, and attentive and friendly staff. And the prices are quite reasonable too!
The chef takes particular pride in his dishes, and always wants to hear what patrons enjoy - the feedback is always very positive.
This bistro has quickly become one of our favourite places to dine out - whether it's a Sunday brunch or a mid-week dinner.
Menu has a lot of delicious options! The beyond meat burger was excellent.
Amazing menu. Beautifully plated food. Friendly staff. The lavender lemon cocktail is so soooo yummy.
