We arrived very close to closing time but they very gladly took us in and made food last minute for us. It tasted fresh, and really good! Attention is always good. I recommend this restaurant! One of our favourites :)
This is a small hidden gem at the Scurfield strip mall just beside DQ restaurant. Tried this place many times and never disappointed-either take out or dine in. We normally order the chicken balls, mixed vegetables, sweet sour pork and the big fat noodles and all good, tasty and delicious. Nice friendly staff and service. Recommended.
Pretty consistent and tasty. I order from South Ocean quite regularly. The dishes are normally very tasty. The portions are a fair size, there is a large variety to choose from, and the food comes out quite quickly.
Northern chinese food withstronger flavor and spice. I love the spicy deep fried breaded fish,spicy soy sauce thousand year eggs with tofu and the cantonese salty fish,pork with eggplant. they re delious Good service with efficiency.
We had takeaway from here last night. The food was great. Fresh, well cooked and tasty. Will definitely be returning and looking forward to our leftovers tonight as the portions were large. 3 dishes between 2 people was too much!
Great food. Even after reading the bad reviews posted here, my husband and I went to the South Ocean with another couple for dinner last night to check it out for ourselves and I am really glad we did. The service was great, the food came fast, and everything was really tasty. "Kung po" shrimp was a real hit with all of us, but as with any shrimp dish there never seems to be enough shrimp when you have to share. The cantonese chow mein comes with shrimp, BBQ pork, chicken and vegetables and we also had beef with black bean sauce which was really tasty. The portions aren't very large but they make up for it in the quality of the dishes. We all agreed that this will be the place to go for Chinese from now on. Ignore the other reviews and try it out for yourself, you won't be disappointed.
New favourite.. South Ocean is quite possibly my favourite non-dim-sum Chinese restaurant in the city. The Hot and Sour soup is exactly that - hot and sour, none of the corn-starchiness present in almost every other HS in the city. A Sichuan pork stir fry on the lunch menu was fantastic, flavourful, spicy, and again - thankfully absent of corn starch. After a lovely lunch experience, I also sampled the take out menu where the quality where the quality was so-so. The Sichuan chicken was again one of the best I've ever had - though the Cantonese dishes were lacklustre and mediocre. My verdict - stick with the Sichuan dishes and you will enjoy everything you taste.
Love this restaurant. This is one of our favourite chinese restaurants in Winnipeg. Most dishes are good, but the Mapo tofu & hot sour sup are the best in Winnipeg.
Best Chinese in the city!!. We have ordered from this restaurant a few times now. All in all, it was absolutely the best chinese food i've had in Winnipeg. Always consistant, the Fried ginger beef is AMAZING, everything tasted fresh, and i could very easily distinguish the flavours of each dish (Which I find difficult in most take-out chinese restaurants).
Will absolutely keep ordering from there.
