Tom Yum Thai is one of those restaurants I’ve often passed, but never entered. As a bus rider, I find that getting to North of Portage, where I live in the West End, back to North of Portage on Main is often as a trip, as convoluted as this sentence. As a result, I generally walk when I go to such places as Stephanchew’s Church Goods, or to visit the Exchange District.
There aren't a lot of restaurants near HSC hospital but this at the corner of William and Sherbrook is pretty decent for Thai food. Their spice level is serious so if you choose 7 or higher it is spicy! I had 8 once and it was pretty spicy - the kind that's still good but you're getting a runny nose and drinking lots of water and I have a decent heat tolerance. I'll go with 6 and it's just right.
There's a lunch time buffet but it doesn't appeal to me so I usually share a few dishes with friends. The green curry, red curry, panang curry and pad thai are all decent. They all average about $10 per dish when you select chicken or beef.
Service is fast and efficient.
I have volunteered at the Children’s Hospital here in Winnipeg for a number of years. Many hours on the job are spent snuggling a baby and staring out the window. In doing so, I have often wondered about Tom Yum Thai that is often within my gaze at corner of Sherbrook St. & William Ave. Recently, the opportunity to discover more about the restaurant, presented itself.
