My daughter and I had breakfast here while my wife got her hair cut. The food was affordable and good. I don't think you can go wrong stopping at this small dinner.
Our story wasn't all that representative but I'm not sure if the two older men one table over paid for our meal or if the waitress shared their tip but it was really great.
Was a nice way to start our vacation from Calgary to Winnipeg.

This is one of the only diners left in Winnipeg with any credibility. Simply the most welcoming and comfortable spot for breakfast or lunch in the city. Unpretentious, genuine, straight up, down to earth and highly attentive owners running the place make this the go to breakfast spot.

Passed this place 1,000 times and never went in. Finally did and I'll be back. They put a slide of swiss under the egg for their eggs benedict, which were fantastic. Shredded hash was awesome as well; perfect balance between crispy and moist. Service was great too, my coffee was never empty. A Winnipeg gem. It's cash only fyi.

What a great surprise! The best cafe I've eaten at in more years than I can remember.
Sizzling hot - fresh hot Denver sandwich, prepared by Karen right before out eyes.
Both Ginny and I agreed, we could have stayed all afternoon and chatted with Karen.
The restaurant is clean as a whistle and the decor is so cool.
You will love it!

Ordered a bacon cheeseburger and a ham and cheese sandwich. Burger was excellent, one of the better patties in Winnipeg. Ham and cheese was a disappointment, poor quality cheese was used, was peppered with burnt carbonized bits of old food from the grill, and for some reason was leaking brown grease. Not sure if it's always like this but the diner itself was absolutely filthy. Floor was covered in dirt from shoes, looked like it hadn't been washed in days. But, to be fair the bathrooms were clean. Seems like it's run by the owners, with the wife cooking the food and the husband doing the dishes and prepping burgers which is pretty cool. However, a dirty restaurant is not excusable and the kitchen seems to be extremely disorganized which sends a bad impression. They also do not take credit or debit, cash only. Still open to the possibility of going back for another burger in the hopes that the disregard for cleanliness is not the norm.

Awesome place, great food and the owner is a great hostess, server, cook, cashier etc! Myself and three friends each ordered a sandwich or buger (club house, chicken burger and veggie burger) and shared a fries... EVERYTHING was great. I work across the street so I will for sure be back.

Worst service ever. Really good food but terrible service!! I called to make an order for today for pick up and the girl on the phone said "no we're busy call back". I called back 20 minutes later and as I was trying to say what I was going to order she said "are you going to say it or what". When I ordered chicken fingers and a salad they were out of salad. Every time I order from there, they're always out of something! NEVER going back. Get it together wannabes

After all these years.... It's so great to see that this establishment is still in business. I used to work at the Legal Aid on Broadway from 1997-2001, the building now houses the Libreral Party of Manitoba. A lot of the lawyers used to go over there for breakfast before heading off for court and they ALWAYS had so many nice things to say about the place. I think they were a happier lot after they had their morning fix over at Wanabee's, I got go and check it out again sometime soon! Love it!

Just called wannabees finer for their hours ; I live in the area, so I would have been a regular if the service was adequate . However when I did can the lady rudely replied "open at 1240 stop cooking at one!!!!!!" Click. I am in restaurant management myself and would never allow an employee to push away customers with disregard , customer lost .

Quaint setting, real home-cooked food. Karen (the sole proprietor) is a miracle of time management- cooking, cleaning, operating the till, taking orders over the phone. She never stops moving, yet always has time for a brief chat with her customers. This is home-cooked food; nothing fancy, but filling and tasty. A popular well known little nook, but only for breakfast and lunch so don't show up after 2 PM. Always fresh coffee, and the prices are reasonable.

Worst Customer Service!. That lady is sooo rude and argued with me when I let her know that the customer service was bad and my order was wrong, it was rude that she did not even apologize for getting my order wrong either!. I did not enjoy my meal there at all and WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT??? NEVER WILL I GO BACK TO THAT PLACE!!!

Yummy!. I love Wanabees! We go every Saturday morning, for breakfast. I get an omelette with ham, mushrooms, tomato, and green pepper. It's so delicious! I love being a regular there. I feel very at home. And, the prices are phenomenal.

Not to far from where I live. Burger (sometimes 2) and (multiple cups of) coffee are my favourite items there. The owner is super friendly and inviting. Both are a perfect mix for a diner in the community. Only problem are the unusual hours. If they were longer I would be there more often then I already am.

Classic. I have not been here for lunch, but have been coming back for years and years for the best breakfast in town. The hashbrowns are shredded and amazing. Hearty portions. Refills on coffee can be overlooked if the place is busy which it frequently is. Fantastic all around.

Lunch. My boyfriend and I decided to try Wannabee's based on reviews we had seen on Urbanspoon. Although it is a small diner with limited seating, we were able to get a table. The waitress/cook was very nice and the service was excellent! We had our coffee within minutes and our food I'd say within 10 minutes. The soup of the day was Minestrone which tasted awesome. I ordered a grilled cheese with bacon and it came with some potato chips. My boyfriend ordered the soup, a clubhouse, french fries with gravy on the side.. The clubhouse didn't come with turkey or chicken but with ham which was a nice change. All in all the experience and food was very good and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Surprise!. Headed to Wannabee's with the cousin & madre at the madre's suggestion. Hd never tried before as I knew it as a burger joint & doubted a little nook like that would have some vegetarian options, but breakfast should be safe right?<br/><br/>The waitress/chef/busgirl/dishwasher was quick in getting coffee & taking orders. Two specials & a mushroom omlette. Omlette came out not greasy with a nice white cheese. Hashbrowns & toast was also satisfying & filling. Was also happy that it wasn't too busy & the kind lady owner didn't rush us out after we finished breakfast & stuck around to gab.<br/><br/>Best part of meal: $20.50. What? That's right, Twenty dollars & fifty freaking cents for 3 breakfasts we almost couldn't finish.<br/>Suggestion: I felt like a blubber-butt eating eggs, cheese, potatoes & toast. I think it would (make me feel better at least) if the breakfasts incorporated some fresh fruit.<br/><br/>On a side note, I noticed that they served a veggie burger. I'll be back for you veggie burger. I'll be back.

Old favourite. Years ago my office was located next door to Wannabee's. I soon discovered the restaurant and the always pleasant owner, chief cook and bottle washer Karen. There is a die-hard group of regulars in the place all the time. Great breakfast as well as Burgers and sandwiches. It isn't an extensive menu, but the things she does she does well. My office relocated over ten years ago but I still pop in from time and she still remembers my name. Can't beat that.

Solid breakfast. Gonna keep this short and sweet, Wannabee's is my favourite breakfast nook in the city. One of those places where the majority of customers don't even bother placing an order since the owners know them by name. The food is dirt cheap and is solid lumberjack fare, and service is very consistent and friendly... my only complaint would be that they're not open Sundays!<br/><br/>Sign at the door says "In God we trust, all others pay cash," so come prepared.

Best burger in The Peg. This place is amazing to say the least. Its only open from 7 am - 2 PM. Order the Cheesburger and Fries and prepare to have your tastebuds HOPPING... Juniors or George's or whatever doesn't even come close to this little place. I'll try to shoot a menu pic next time I go.

Best hamburger I've had in Winnipeg. I have to echo The Blissful Baker--fast, cheap, friendly and an amazing cheeseburger and fries. I'll have to try breakfast next time. Please don't go there; it's not big enough to accommodate a hoard of hipsters.

Excellent!. Excellent food, excellent service, super fast, we were in there, ate lunch and out of there in less than 40 minutes. The woman who served us (the owner?) was also the cook, and the dishwasher, and EXTREMELY friendly. It is a very small place ( about 6 - 8 tables plus a few barstools) with lots of regulars.<br/>The cheeseburger was great, the denver was yummy, and the fries are to die for. Definately 5 out of 5 stars. Oh ps: 2 meals plus 2 drinks came to $17. CHEAP, good eats.

Great food. Wannabee's is a community diner. I work across the street, and have been an avid Wannabee's customer. Their food is great and the owner (cook) is always accommodating to getting food for take out. I don't know how she does it, but she is always busy, and friendly. <br/>The Greek Salad with chicken fingers cut into it (not on the menu) is AMAZING, as is the bacon, tomato grilled cheese sandwich. <br/>I highly recommend Wannabee's diner for great Diner food.

For many years, I was under the impression that Wannabees diner on Broadway was closed. This was due to lack of information my part. The knowledge I lacked was that Wannabees is a breakfast and lunch joint. Happily then, I was able to correct this dining oversight.
