Review Saddlery On Market - Winnipeg

Food was good, but service was slower as there was only one server. They were out of two items that we tried to order as well.

My husband went here last night for their take on a poutine. When we got there, the decor was gorgeous! I love the pictures of old, classic Winnipeg. The staff was phenomenal! So far, I had tried 3 poutines from different establishments and this is by far my favorite! My only complaint? I would have liked more mushrooms....... because you can't go wrong with this mushroom mix!

Been here twice, hasn't disappointed. Good service and the food is awesome. Very impressive chicken breast perfectly cooked, ribs were smokey, delicious and fall off the bone. Our favorite though, is the Bison Mac and Cheese burger, it's amazing and a must try.

Went for dinner several weeks back and the food, drinks and atmosphere were great! Very well managed. If you haven't checked it out yet, you should! You won't be disappointed! Just booked reservations for tonight and can't wait!

Was o.k. bit slow in service. Burgers were good. Drinks were nice.

This was our first stop during our pedal pub, the staff was rude and not friendly at all. We asked for a business card for our scavenger hunt and the waiter threw the business cards on the table. Definitely was not treated well so we all left after one drink.

Friendly but quite on a Tuesday evening, service was quick and attentive, food was delicious.

My husband and I chose to have our wedding reception here and am SO SO happy with how everything turned out! Roula was so easy to deal with and she was so accommodating with any requests we had. The restaurant vibe is exactly what we were looking for, the exposed brick, hardwood floors and dim lighting was the exact feel we wanted to go with! The service was amazing and the bartenders were so skilled with the many drink requests our guests had! Dinner portions were generous and everyone raved about the food, especially the cheesecake, that was by far the biggest hit! Our wedding was on a Saturday of a long weekend and roula was more than okay with us picking up our stuff the Tuesday instead of having to take it all away the night of, it was so appreciated to not have to worry about that! If anyone is looking for a cool switch up to the usual wedding venue, or just looking to celebrate with some friends, I’d highly recommend reaching out to Roula! Oh, and for photos, the inside of the restaurant has some super cool walls for photos and the neighborhood is full of options too!!! Thank Roula for everything!

We went out for supper before the theatre and wanted to try this restaurant out we were both very disappointed in the service and the food as well to start off our beer came in a warm glass and the beer was Luke warm. We both ordered steak sandwiches my pea soup was warm not hot and my steak had a lot of gristle in it the garlic toast was disgusting no time to reorder our meals. My wife’s meal was just as bad as mine and her steak was full of fat and gristle she got through a 1/4 of it and stopped eating it because it was that disgusting. The place was not very busy and yet the service was terrible our waiter had trouble keeping up with just 4 tables and it was difficult to just get your water glasses filled. We didn’t even bother with desert we just wanted to leave finally got our bill and told the waiter that if they were going to serve steak they better start getting better cuts of meat because the meal was very disappointing to us. He did offer free desert and asked if we wanted to talk to a manager. We had enough and just wanted to leave as fast as possible. We will never come back to this restaurant again and it is definitely not worth going to this is our experience we had and just wanted to share it with others.

We were greatly looking forward to starting LeBurger week at this location but sadly our meal was nothing but a disappointment. The noise level was nearly unbearable even with a few tables being empty. The bison mac & chili cheese burger arrived without the chipotle mayo, jalapenos or pico de gallo that was listed in the ad. My date ordered the chicken club and it had a small dab of regular mayo instead of the advertised chipotle mayo and the bacon was spongy. They overcharged us for a glass of pop that was mostly ice and no refill was offered. The final straw was the fact that no cutlery was brought and I was done my burger before napkins were brought to the table. Overall we won't be going back and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Met a couple of friends for dinner. Food was ok, atmosphere was ok, service was terrible!! The waitress we had forgot three times that I had asked for a drink. She would even come by and say "oh sorry, I forgot your drink" but still didn't bring me one!! Then another waitress came by and asked if we needed anything and I asked her for a drink. She never brought me one either!! First waitress dropped a fork on the floor, didn't pick it up and then tripped on it a minute later!! Best thing we saw all night!! Not sure where they found these waitresses but they should be doing something else!!

Was there last night, ordered a salad that our waitress forgot to punch in, she did offer to have it sent out again but we had told her we were going to the escape room for a certain time at the start and at that point there was not enough time to wait for another one and eat it. She also forgot drinks for our table and I question the virgin Caesar that was brought to me was actually a virgin. I am pregnant and the waitress was made aware of this, but after drinking half of it, I started to feel a buzz so I stopped. We questioned the waitress and she asked her bartender but she had two Caesars on our tray when she served it to me, so I wonder if it got mixed up. To top it off, she never offered any sort of compensation for all the mix ups, like giving me my "virgin" drink on the house for forgetting my meal. We did return after our escape room and this time the bartender was serving and he did a good job. Overall, earlier in the evening the restaurant wasn't busy enough for these oversights and mistakes to have happened. The decor is beautiful and the menu looks good but this experience was very disappointing.

Went to Saddley Saturday, April 29. Arrived around 6:45 and the place wasn't even half full. The first thing our waitress mentioned was the 3 menu items that the restaurant was out of. During the course of our meal, my guest and I overheard our waitress add more and more dishes that they were out of to other guests that had arrived to eat. We could see and hear that other guests were annoyed that they had ordered and then were told sometime later that the restaurant was out of what they had ordered. The food and drink we ordered was ok, nothing special at all. Our bill was pretty high considering the quality of food, lack of options available and the so-so service. The atmosphere is nice, being in an older building on Market Ave, although the tvs in the restaurant did not fit - it's not a sports lounge. The website says the place is open until 12:30 yet the manager told us they were open until 2:00. All in all, a weird, confusing and disappointing dining experience. I might go back for a drink late night just to see if anyone is in the place, but for being a relatively new restaurant (November 2016) I can't see this place lasting. Many better options, in the Exchange, Osborne and Downtown.

Had no idea this existed till I was meeting my girlfriend for lunch and she suggested it as she just works up the street. The service was great... the atmosphere was beautiful and the food excellent. I had the classic burger and side salad. They made adjustments as asked no problem and the best surprise and most delicious was the deep fried pickle they served on top of the burger! Mmmmmmm was it ever good!!!!! Thanks I will for sure be returning.

I had never been here before but their burger of the week was top on my list to try. Unfortunately the service was awful and I was told the kitchen was backed up so it would be a while for my ONE burger order. I ended up waiting 45 minutes for an overwhelmingly disappointing BLAND burger. Also, good luck finding parking near by.

Exceptional service and great atmosphere. This was our first time eating here - we were out for a birthday meal - and our waiter (Daniel) was amazing! He was super friendly and went out of his way to make sure the Birthday Girls' evening was enjoyable. The food came out quickly and everything tasted great - couldn't ask for more. Very thankful for the range of gluten free options, and the Montreal smoked meat was spot on. We will definitely be returning!

Great rustic chic decor fitting with the history of the building! Loved the music and food was great! Brussel sprouts were the best, along with my fav the beet and goat cheese salad! Will be back again! Congrats Leo and Toula!

I don't typically write reviews, but I felt that this place deserved one. A co-worker mentioned it to me this week and nobody around us, including myself, had any idea it existed. It is in the same location that Don Pedro's used to occupy, which I work 2 blocks away from, and nobody had a clue it existed! I walked over for lunch today and the service was not only friendly and knowledgeable, but it was also extremely prompt and efficient. It was hard to choose which item I wanted more, but I decided to try the Cubano sandwich. It was... AMAZING! You could tell that quality products went into making it and the end result was mouth-watering and delicious. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that they put a deep fried pickle on top of each sandwich/burger! The great service and excellent food will definitly have me returning.

Food was fantastic! Shared some plates including the Roasted Beet/Goat Cheese Salad & Prawn Scampi Sizzler with Salt/Pepper Wings & amazing Chicken BBQ Flatbread. Great wine list & cocktail selection. So many more things on the menu to come back & try. Beautiful light airy space.

We had a great night at the Saddlery on NYE 2017. Great food and service. Our waitress was great. I definitely recommend it

First time at this restaurant Service was phenomenal. The staff was very informative. Prices were typical of upscale restaurants. Highly recommend it. Will definitely be back

Great food, great beer selection and great service. The DJs are on point too!

The service was great and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We had the Greek salad and bison nachos and they were excellent. I would highly recommend a visit. Just sit back and enjoy a relaxing dinner.

Place was gorgeous and food was best I've had in awhile. Definitely going back!!! Wait staff was excellent too!

Went Wednesday before theatre, so convenient being a block away from MTC.  Service was very good, when we asked about the wines, the waiter was quick to offer a small sample (and the bartender repeated later when  asked about beer).  Nice they support local/craft brew, good selection.  Food was good as well, fitting for the bar-style restaurant.  Best deep fried pickle I ever had!  We'll return for sure.

I had a pretty bad experience. We went there for my friend's birthday. They ask us for covers after we we there for quite some time. I would gladly pay but we told them we are about to leave since we were there just for dinner and no one ask us for cover when we got there and he still insisted that we pay. And my friend explained that we just paid and we are finishing our drinks he told her he don't care. We just all left the place.

We came during burger week to try the feature burger and have a drink. We got the burger and added a side garden salad for $3 and tried to order the pickerel tacos but they were out. We got the bison nachos instead. <br/><br/>The feature burger was pretty good and the nachos were also alright. They had pico de gallo, jalapeños, sour cream and ground bison meat but they were definitely missing a dip with them, such as a salsa or guacamole. The service was quick and we had no complaints about it other than the server wearing an overpowering cologne.<br/><br/>The menu wasn't overly impressive and didn't have much that I would be interested in going back for. It was a really nice space inside and the patio was in a nice location facing the street in the quiet part of the exchange. Good atmosphere, may be back for drinks one day.

We went to try their burger for le burger week however they had run out. We decided to stay as the menu appeared to have lots of options. The manager gave us a free appy since they were out of the burgers which was nice but it didn't make up for the extremely slow service. We waited 20 mins for drinks and saw our beer flights sitting on the bar for a long time. They were also out of a few other items from the menu and beer from little brown jug. I had the bison nachos which were average, the best salad which was drenched in dressing and my partner had a rice bowl which lacked quality ingredients. Pretty disappointed.

"Underwhelming"<br/><br/>Expected so much more considering all the advertising and hype. <br/><br/>The upside: The bar is beautifully designed with a pretty good selection of spirits. Wine selection is fair with a wide range of price points. The space is pretty nice too with exposed beams and hardwood; typical for this exchange/theater district location. <br/><br/>Downside: service is terrible. Our waiter was not professional; considered "coppermoon" to be the saddlery's "top choice" for wine! Cologne should be left at home to allow customers to enjoy the essence of the food on the plate. Instead we were "treated" with the essence of our server and his cheap cologne. He was also highly inattentive and sloppy: Served a drink in a broken glass; spilled wine on my wife's plate without offering to replace it and cleared dishes as if we were eating at a diner. <br/><br/>The food was ok to good. We enjoyed the calamari which were surprisingly well prepared. We also did the "family style" platter of surf and turf (pictured). A very generous selection of protein, veg and mashed potatoes. The ribeye was cooked as ordered to rare. However, the cook neglected to let the steak stand resulting in the juices running out all over the platter board and onto the table. The "truffle" fries (ordered as a side) were not impressive having no truffle reference to speak of and the texture of frozen fries that have been cooked and left out for an hour then reheated ... (side note: #carnechophouse still serves the best truffle Parmesan fries)<br/><br/>Cocktails were good. Martinis and cosmos all around were well crafted. The martini glasses though are of the thick glass variety making a Hendricks burnt martini less elegant than it is supposed to be. <br/><br/>All in all... not impressive at all. But filled our tummies prior to heading out to #phantomoftheopera. <br/><br/>We will more than likely not be back unless we see ratings climb.

Nice little spot, hidden in the exchange. The venue itself is quite big and nicely decorated. I was surprised at how empty the place was. They have a good selection of food and drinks. I enjoyed the fried pickles and the dip that came with!

Ho hum food. Over priced. We went with 7 people. Each ordered something different but no one was impressed. The pickerel main course serving was miniature as was the chicken main course. The ribs were tough. The seafood linguini didn't have much seafood. The soup was good but the brisket was sandwich was uninspiring. The section of craft beers was ok but a bit more info about the beers would be helpful (i.e. The name and location of the brewer, the IBU, % alcohol, description of the beer).

amateur service and subpar food quality given the $$$ price tag. Tuna Tartar extra chilled (straight from the cooler?) with too much sweetened mayo sprinkled with chili pepper flakes....charcuterie plate with 2 skimpy slivers of cheese and a pile of crusty bread, and the prawns were overly salted. Waitress service felt like I was at a fast food joint--she asked the typical questions of what to drink and eat and couldn't answer any questions about the menu--very unprofessional, awkward and paid little attention to detail. The poor customer service ruined the dining ambiance we were expecting from a $$$ restaurant. The best feature was the beautiful historical facility. I would not recommend this restaurant unless you are looking for a vacant venue to enjoy a drink in a historical building.

I was there with a group of 20 over the weekend. I worked in the service industry for 5 years and know how to treat customers. This is is THE worst service I have ever received. 2 stars only warranted for the exceptional food that the cooks provided. Our server forgot to put in orders, blamed the kitchen and bartenders, didn't know where drinks were going, got our orders wrong, did not apologize for her behalf, did not bring a manager over and was just the worst. So unprofessional. Hopefully this particular female server gets replaced so that she won't ruin the experience for anyone else.

Confusing place and menu all over the place. Was recommended we share the sprouts and pickerel tacos by the server as they were the best. They were not good, deep fried oily sprouts and tacos were battered and so much mayo on everything. No real flavour. Too bad it's a great location

Got seated right away but server took 15 mins before she even took our drink order. Took our order and 20 mins later said they ran out what we ordered. So we ordered other things. Mainly just appetizers. An hour later and asking 3 different servers later ... we still didn't have any food. The annoying part is they didn't even come and see if we wanted other drinks or kept us updated. We called over a different server and 15 mins after you order you get the drink. At this point the manager got involved and we got our food within a few minutes. The food tasted great. I got the steak sandwich and it was cooked to my liking. The fries were good .. and the "bread" for the sandwich was a deep fried dough that tasted like a beavertails. My friends enjoyed their food. Service was just bad. The server afterward told us 'maybe don't come on a Saturday next time.' The manager did give us $5 off our meal, but we were just so hungry waiting for the food that the discount meant nothing.

Michael Day and his staff in the kitchen rocked it. Ordered for the staff Christmas party, the Pickerel and Ribs and Mac and cheese were gobbled up. 15 staff and their families now know how great this restaurant is. Thank you Saddlery
Melanie
Pretty good. Excellent service. Had the beef brisket which was descent. Had the texture and consistency of pot roast though, so not quite what I expected. The drink menu had an extensive number of champagne cocktails, which looked tempting for another visit.

Good service, nice environment but food is 1/10. Maybe just an off night but i could think of about 100 places in the city id rather go spend 50 bucks.

The Saddlery just opened right beside the building I work in, so we tried it out for lunch yesterday. They're in the old Don Pedro's space. The space looks pretty much the same, minus all the Mexican-themed junk on the walls. It's a clean, modern-looking space with the added charm of the old hardwood floors and exposed beams of a 100-year-old building.<br/><br/>The place was nearly empty, so service was fast and friendly. I had their signature burger, which was actually very good. The burger patty was home-made, and the pretzel bun it came on was a great choice, as it's firm enough to hold everything together. My friend had their chicken club, and while the taste was good, he noted the bun was far too flimsy to hold the fillings in, and was pretty messy. <br/><br/>So, for a first visit, I think it went pretty well. <br/><br/>One thing I noted, however, is there were a couple of people in suits observing things - evidently some sort of management or owners - and despite only being open for a few days, they didn't bother to talk to any guests to get their feedback. I found that strange.
