My favourite dimsum restaurant. I’ve tried almost every dimsum restaurant in the city, and been to other dimsum restaurants in other cities, and nothing beats this place! It might not be the fanciest restaurant, but it’s been there for years! Some dimsum restaurants have closed, but they’re still here. They even took over the restaurant that closed right across them! It’s all about the food quality, their dimsum never cheaped out on quality. The siomai for example, has never downgraded, it’s still stacked with pork, unlike other dimsum places where they add all sorts of stuff like mushrooms and onion and green peas on their siomai to make it look bigger, but the content is cheaper!
You can never beat their prices here too. You might not pay for the ambience of the restaurant, but you get the worth and value of your money from the food!
I also like their egg noodle soup variety.
And most of all, the people are friendly and nice. Some dimsum restaurants have very rude staff. But this family that owns this restaurant are very down to earth! It’s a Winnipeg gem!
Hole in the wall, need key to access washroom outside and down the hall. AND excellent dim sum, duck and beef rice noodles! As a Chinese, totally what I expect from a place that knows how to cook! Service is inadequate if you don't speak Cantonese. Great classic Chinatown experience. Parking is challenging.
Go here if you want the best tasting dim sum that made fresh to order! This place is a hidden gem.
The traditional dim sum comes through with carts but typically those foods aren't fresh and just sit there until someone picks it.
I always go here and just find other places don't match up including the ones in the area. I've also been to Vancouver and toronto and it's not the same. Especially their eggplant and stuff green peppers.
They have the best fried rice, sweet and sour soups and noodle soups. Everything is cooked to perfection.
The service is fast and efficient. The ladies are so sweet here!
Amazing Chinese food. This place has zero ambiance its super casual. Super cheap prices and good food. Dim sum is awesome and their bowls of noodle soup are the perfect lunch. 6-9$ big bowl you cant go wrong. Don't come if you don't like authentic Chinese food.
One of our favourite Dimsum restaurants in the city. Decent price, good service, dimsum taste a bit better than Dimsum Garden. We spent $78 for 2 at Kumkoon but it is only haft the price at Noodle Express.
Stopped by around 3pm and there were plenty of seats. Service was good and quick. Really enjoyed the Pan-fried Pork Dumpling. Will definitely come back!
Been here a few times and have tried a large variety of their menu. Don't be fooled by the name of the restaurant, the noodles here are horrible. But aside from that everything else is decent. Love the deep fried shrimp dumplings and the custard buns are a great dessert. The rice dishes aren't bad either. Good dim sum. Food is fairly priced
My favourite place for dim sum whenever I'm back in Winnipeg. My favourites are the custard pineapple buns and egg tarts...have not found any place in Vancouver that compares. Looking forward to eating a lot on my next visit.
Excellent! As others have posted, the place is fast, friendly and the food is delicious. The only caveat would be you have to take a key and go out in the hall to use the washroom. I will definitely be frequenting this restaurant.
What can I say about Noodle Express that hasn't already been said. There fast, There friendly and the food (all of it) is amazing. Come winter time I come here with a serious craving for the dumpling Soup of which they do not cheap out on, they give you lots of Dumplings and it is amazing soup and there dim sum is amazing too and the price is awesome. Okay I have repeated everything that has already been said but it had to be said again, if you are going to pick on anything I would say its a bit plain but that just adds to the authentic feel for me, makes me feel like I am in China. they are that good. 5 stars
Came here for lunch with the wife. I wasn't feeling well and there's nothing out there that warms you up like a big bowl of congee! She was craving fried rice so we got a plate of that as well.
Service is super quick and attentive. We were directed to sit anywhere we pleased and also came with utensils and hot tea shortly after. This place has a wide selection of noodles, stir fries and dim sum. Pretty must most popular Cantonese dishes are served here.
Food is excellent at Noodle Express. Their dishes are consistent and very reasonably priced! They have happy hour dim sum from 2:00-close everyday where each dish is $2.70! If you're not familiar with dim sum, I would equate it to Chinese style tapas. Dishes are small and made to order and designed to be shared.
The problem with this restaurant is ventilation. Your clothes tends to smell like Chinese food after eating here. Also, this isn't the nicest in terms of decor. It actually has a very cafeteria like feel with the fluorescent lights and folding chairs.
A bit of a hole in the wall and parking is difficult to find in this area. However, totally worth going to as they have amazing dim sum and cheap.
Delicious food, generous amount at a very reasonable price. Never change! Will be coming back over and over for sure! Steaming duck noodle soup wonderful on a cold rainy day.
Regularly go for dim sum. Very casual. Chairs are in need of some repair but clean enough. The service is not super friendly but it is efficient and once you order, everything comes out very fast. All of their dim sum is excellent. I love the eggplant stuffed with shrimp and their deluxe shrimp dumpling is a great change from shrimp paste to intact shrimp. The classics (pork shao mai, shrimp shao mai, shrimp har gow) are perfect, but it's worth trying something new every time we go because we've never been disappointed with the food. Given how fast and good the food is, it's worth the 4/5 despite all else.
I went with a business contact at lunch today. We arrived around 12:30 and there were only 2 people in line ahead of us. He said if we went around 11:30 that it is sometimes lined up out the door.
We both ordered the super combo, rice, noodles, 2 meats, veg and a few rolls.
Too much to eat!
Fresh, and tasty.
Cost under $10 with a drink.
Will definitely be back!
This place is cheap, fast, and good. They have a great happy hour and I am never disappointed when I come here. It's a crappy looking place but the food more than makes up for it. My fav are the pineapple buns, all the dumplings, their orange tripe, everything.. Even their fried rice is fantastic.
Love this place! You know a place is good when it's always full despite the (nonexistant) decor and atmosphere. Definitely the cheapest dim sum place I have been to but also the best! Everything comes out hot and fresh and the flavours are always great. I especially love the little custard buns with the runny middle (forget what they're called on the menu).
This is a good place to eat if you want fast, cheap, but satisfying food. The dim sum here is just so good. They have that authentic umami flavour that any Chinese food fan would love. Also the food is cheap, for just 30 bucks you can buy a meal for 3-4 people. A must try if you're looking for that hole-in-the-wall oriental food experience.
I love this lovely hole in the wall!! It has student friendly prices(2.50$ per thing during happy hour) and a relaxed atmosphere. It is the highlight of my life. My favorites are the coriander shrimp dumplings, pork buns, golden bun, green pepper shrimp, Vietnamese spring roll(comes with yummy garlic sauce) a the BBQ pork rice cakes. I go here a couples times a month and rave to my friends about it...mostly so i can take them there and eat more of their food. A+ from his student on a budget :)
This place looks really sketchy and old. Honestly the restaurant does not look very clean, but everything else was AMAZING. Their food is great, their portion size is awesome, the price is great, and their staff is super duper friendly. I had their dim sum, porridge, buns, and desserts. Everything was so yummy. Will definitely return!
A couple of weeks ago we had our most recent Why Cook Wednesday supper club dinner. We decided on Dim Sum at Noodle Express in Chinatown. I have to admit that this is a restaurant that I haven’t thought much about despite having popped in during past Fringe Festivals. I’ve also tended to shy away form Dim Sum, thinking it on the expensive side. I do though, enjoy the variety.
My partner and I had dinner here around 6pm on a Saturday night. The servers were very friendly and courteous, which I greatly appreciate, as you won't find this type of service at any other dim sum restaurant!!!! The ladies came around often to fill up our waters and clean our tables. The service was fast and our food was freshly made, as expected. I love going here!
This is a great place for some fast, delicious, cheap dim sum. Although they don't roll the food around in carts as many people are used to, the food is no joke. The food has a homey feel and the packed house will well represent that. If you ever find yourself waiting for a table in the crowded restaurant, head over to Sam Po right across the street because they're both owned by the same people! You can sometimes see employees carrying trays of steamer baskets from one restaurant to the other.
My favorite would be the famous shrimp dumplings (ha cao) and pork dumplings (siu mai) but all of the food is great. What's even better is that happy hour starts from 2-close so you can get all your favorites for cheap. Don't sleep on this restaurant. They pack a punch for the tiny restaurant located in the big building in the middle of China town.
Full disclosure, I've only had the dim sum here because it was so incredible on my first visit that I can't imagine ordering anything else. Food is incredible, fast, fresh, and CHEAP. We spent about $19 and were both completely full, with leftovers. It's not a pretty place, it's crafted almost exclusively from rough edges, but the food is authentic and clearly amde with passion and care. I've only had to wait for a table once, but it's always been packed and busy every time we've gone. My Chinese friends all give this place two thumbs up as well, so it seems well loved both by the Chinese community and those who just love their cuisine.
I went to noodle express today with my family for lunch. All the dishes came very quickly and the service was surprisingly good. This place is definitely full of Asians. It is appealing to the Asian community but its obviously reaching out to the rest of the community too.
Almost every dish was spot on excellent and delicious. One dish that we ordered... the salty donut was is a little off-putting but it did live up to its name. The service was very friendly and accommodating and the prices were excellent.
We couldn't finish our meals and it cost us about 10 dollars per person.
I recommend this place highly.
Food was great for the price! Definitely a place to go if you're hungry but short on cash. Employees were a bit cranky and scary because of how they glare at you. Don't expect a nice ambiance when you get here because you'd be disappointed. Expect more on how the food tastes and it won't let you down.
great food and cheap prices.... Owner is very nice but don't expect great service from all the employees but this place is definitely a go to for cheap eats
I have been to Noodle Express on several occasions and loved the food there and prices are inexpensive, compared to other Chinese restaurants.
Every time that I've been there, the place is packed. The interior reminds me of a hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant, much similar to the local shops or known as in Cantonese, "cha chan teng," which you'll find in Hong Kong.
When ordering, they provide you with a sheet that has all the food items. All you have to do is put a check mark next to the dishes you want, and flag the waitress/waiter over, and hand it to him/her.
I have tried their dim sum, with the selection being limited, but they do offer a bit more on weekends and holidays. The barbecue pork rice was a generous portion and comes with some Chinese greens. The wonton noodle soup is also very good, portion again is generous, and also is served with Chinese greens and scallion. Other items I have also tried include the pan fried beef ho fan, century egg and lean pork congee, and one of the clay pot rices.
To sum it all, good food, inexpensive, and large portions that's great for sharing.
Our usual Dim sum place for my friends and I. This place has been around for quite some time, but I think it's gotten quite more popular. And for good reason.
This place is a Hong Kong style snack house. From Dim sum and egg tarts, to Congee and Beef brisket Lo Mein. Don't be fooled by this hole in the wall's exterior, for the food greatly makes up for it. And the inside sure leaves something to be desired, but hey, if you're there to get some good eats...
Happy hour is great! Be sure to stop by during their HH and you can save a little bit of $$. Modest menu, but with a good enough variety! They have your standard dumplings which you can find at most Dim Sum spots. Along with Tripe and chicken feet, if you're feeling adventurous! They have these sweet steamed buns with a sweet custard inside (I forgot the name, unfortunately), but they are a FAV amongst my friends! And the pineapple buns are great!
Noodle Express can get busy at times, especially during the weekends, and they don't have a parking lot designated for their restaurant, so you'll have to find someplace to park your vehicle.
Yum yum, Dim Sum. 😁
Review from sum gal. Our family has been coming here for years now. It has always reminded me of grandma's kitchen. Alright, maybe not my grandma's, but perhaps someone else's :-) What I mean is, the atmosphere is completely without pretense. Relaxed.
There are ever so many selections. Take advantage of Happy-Hour to experiment. This is how we have found some of our favourite foods: deep-fried squid (no one does it better, imo), chicken feet, deep-fried Chinese perogies, chicken with steamed rice, dumplings (all types except the Premium. That one is crunchy, offered with mayo. Weird).
It's not often that someone in the family will say "ick", but when it does happen, another member is only too happy it gobble it up! This is the advantage of the huge selection.
Understand that different cooks will have their own style of a particular dish. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. I've personally enjoyed the different takes of hot and sour soup, but have not always appreciated a different version of beef-ball.
Affordable.
Loved it!!. Amazingly good! The Pork Shao Mai was my favorite bite but seriously everything we tried (12 different dim sum dishes) was just beyond reproach. The dim sum was piping hot and came out fast! The restaurant itself wasn't much to look at but that's not why we went. The food is like dining at a 5 star restaurant. We will definitely be back soon!! The pricing was reasonable! The taro root cakes were amazing, the BBQ pork steamed buns were heavenly and the spring rolls were crispy fried perfection. Oh and the mango pudding - my husband just couldn't get over how good it was!
Old School HK Style Snack House. I am Chinese and grew up eating tradtional HK foods. Noodle Express is probably the most authentic HK Style Snack House in Winnipeg. They offer dim sum (happy hour too!) and other HK snack foods such as soup noodles, BBQ rice combos and congee. Dim sum is made to order and comes piping hot the way it should be. And the snacks are always great, my personal fave is the beef brisket lo mein. Some people have expressed that they are uncomfortable going there for sanitary reasons, but really the place isn't bad at all. The interior may seem simple and decor outdated, but really that's how HK Style Snack Houses were back in the day, so its staying true to its roots and I gladly welcome that. Ventillation may be an issue for some especially in the summer months because they don't have AC in there... And if they do it's an extremely weak one. Most of the time they have giant indsutrial fans blowing air out of the place with the doors wide open. I literally come out drenched from sweating while eating there, but its not a big deal to me, the food makes up for it.
Take it for what its worth... If you want authentic HK style snacks, go here. It is cheap and tasty!
It was okay.. Me and my friends went there on a Monday around 5:30PM and we were seated right away. It took a while for our orders to arrive but we weren't in a rush so it was okay. I didn't like the spare ribs with steamed rice though, I just didn't like the taste. I ordered pork dumplings, shrimp dumplings, and mango dessert and they were all delicious. It was my first time here since when me and my family went before, they were full so they told us to go to Sam Po, the restaurant in front of them, which they also own.
The place doesn't look nice but their food taste great, so don't judge :) Will definitely come back next time
Regulars, never disappointed with food. Fave dishes- b03 beef w/noodles, Vietnamese spring rolls, eggplant, shrimp with coriander, deluxe seafood, deep fried shrimp, bean curd are all musts for our family! Always hot n steamy, never disappointed.
Always A Regular With My Family. I always love it here. Their mango pudding is my favourite it's always so smooth and creamy, not grainy like other places. Their Deep Fried Salad Shrimp Dim Sum is like nothing I've ever eaten before, definitely worth the try (don't forget to dip it in the mayo)! The staff is always super nice to us and we always come back for more. I admit it is more of a self serve in terms of drinks (i.e. you have to get your own water after the initial one they pour) but considering everything else they serve tastes good I'm willing to do it. Their soup is great and very very large so we recommend not ordering much else unless you know 100% that you're super hungry. Their regular menu tastes great as well, if you order rice I recommend just going for the deluxe fried rice. I hope the owners have lots of success with this one and the other one they just got!
I was very skeptical about this place when a friend asked me to meet her for supper and when I walked in... The feeling got worst. It was just ugly inside. BUT let me tell you! Service was fast, and food was amazingly delicious. I guess you can't really judge a book by it's cover and the first few pages lolz.. It's currently one of my favourite places for dimsum.
Dim Sum YUM. Good dim sum for really good prices!! I live for happy hour. haven't used their restroom yet ( wouldn't want to)
Don't tell anyone. Whether it's dim sum, one of their scrumptious main dishes, or a quick Super Combo on a busy day, Noodle Express never ever disappoints. Every chicken fried rice I eat gets compared to Noodle Express and nothing ever beats it.
Good dim sum, reasonably priced, tasted really fresh to me
Dollar for Dollar, the BEST Dim Sum in Winnipeg. You walk in during Happy Hour and there's a lineup. And you will wait. You wait because at the end of this line there is some of the tastiest and freshest dim sum in Winnipeg. You order the pork dumplings and the shrimp dumplings, the fried shrimp rolls, and the stuffed eggplant. You order some chicken and rice, stuffed peppers, beef tripe, sharks fin dumpling, and Chinese pierogies. And you keep ordering: sticky rice, chicken feet, bean curd rolls, and pineapple buns. The food comes quick, hot and fresh; not pushed around on a cart all afternoon, but from the kitchen directly to your table. Well worth the wait.
Also, no joke, Noodle Express is home to THE BEST GLASS OF WATER IN THE CITY.
5/5 Urbanspoons.
Best Dim Sum in Winnipeg. They have the best value for dim sum and noodles. Recommended.
The soups are good too!. I will gladly make the 20 min hike to the Dynasty building to order the Supreme Meat Noodle soup or the Shrimp Pork & Vegetable Wonton soup. You get a huge bowl for a great price. Plus, this restaurant has opened up a whole new world of Asian cuisine to me. Who would have thought canola plant (yau choy) in a soup would be so tasty!
We're regs. We frequent this place anytime we want something quick delicious and reasonably priced. We order what we want without having to worry about breaking the bank.
Above average food at excellent prices. The noodles are well done... I guess hence the name. Much of the dimsum here is above average (shrimp rolls, turnip cake, dumplings) but the prices are spectacular. A party of 3 ordering 2 noodles and 4 dimsum dishes for under 30 dollars (before tax and tips), wow.
Great food at a fantastic price. Portions are large especially in noodle and rice dishes. Topping off my meal with some dim sum dumplings sure hit the spot. Will be back!
Thumbs up!. Maybe not the "best dimsum in Winnipeg" but definitely our top choice for this price point. Like most homey Asian restaurants, as long as it's not crucial for you that the servers ask: "How is everything tasting? Is there's anything else I can get for you?" and you care more about them delivering good food then you've come to the right place. English is not the staff's first language but I have never seen anyone experience difficulties communicating with them, besides, that just means you're getting real authentic flavours.
Happy Hour. Bright, busy, clean, crowded, and no-frills. Dishes come out hot and quick.
My favorite place to get dim sum. Everything I have tried has been delicious. Yum!
Used to go across the street.... They closed, so tried here. Excellent surprise, they offer really good and cheap dim sum. Prices are around $2-4 a basket, which is usually 3-4 pieces. Steamed shrimp and tripe are excellent every time I go. The other dumplings are also very good and fresh each time we've order. The place is a bit on the dirty side, but its a downtown china town establishment so that shouldn't be a shock.
This is one of my favourite "dives" right in the heart of Chinatown! Big portions at small prices; two can easily eat to near bursting for $20. Must try: #C02, beef brisket with rice. Simply HUGE. From the dim sum menu, you can't go wrong with the egg plant in black bean sauce. Finish it off with my fave, golden dumpling buns: sweet buns filled with warm, gooey custard. Yummy!
Cheap & Tasty. By far the best dim sum for the best price. Go after 2pm (so for dinner) and all dim sum is at a reduced price. I love the fried shrimp dumplings, shark fin dumplings (not actual shark fin--by the way), pork dumpings, Chinese donut, turnip cake, spare ribs, and sticky rice. Mango pudding is a must to end the meal. All food comes out hot and fresh. As mentioned by others service sucks pretty bad and don't dress up for this place--your clothes will stink like food after, but definitely worth it!
Thanks to one of their competition being closed we tried Noodle Express based on its previous reviews. So glad we did. Great food at a great price and the food was served very quickly once we placed our order. Definitely going on to our list of top Choices for dim sum from now on.
We always come here atleast once a week or 2x month. Their lobster roll is mu boyfriend's fave. My fave is the golden bun. Mmmmm its like having s** in my brain hehe. And servers are really friendly
My Dim Sum Fix. This is in the heart of Chinatown, surrounded by other great Dim Sum places, so it has lots of competition. It follows through with really good food and really great prices. I don't think I've ever been disappointed with anything I've eaten here.
Order as much as you want with their write-on menus which is convenient, and makes experimenting items you haven't tried before fun.
Sooooo good. This is the best place for dim sum in Winnipeg-- it's delicious, service is fast even when it's packed (which is almost always) and it is oh-so-cheap.
For those new to dim sum, the best thing to do is order a ton of dishes (they're all served in small baskets) and share as a group. My personal recommendation is the Golden Dumpling Buns... that sweet, creamy egg filling is beyond heavenly. Even just writing this I'm salivating like a madman.
Good prices!. I don't go to this place that often but I do enjoy the noodle soups more rather than the dimsum.
Dim Sum good price. One of my favorite places to go for dimsum. prices are great, service is decent. Food is delicious
Best dim sum in Winnipeg. It's one of my favourite places to go, and I wouldn't have known about it without my friend telling me to. They have the best dim sum in the city in my opinion. And the happy hour starting at 2pm? All dim sum plates $2.50? Count me in! You will be completely satisfied and pay very little for what you get. Bbq pork buns, the pinapple buns, the sho mai(sp?) and the turnip cake(I believe that's what its called in english) is my favourites. Everything is good.
The places is consistently busy, and i've had to share a table with others in order to squeeze us all in. Service is fast and efficient, and due to this, it can be hard to get a server's attention, unless you're calling to them in cantonese like what I do ha. I have yet to try their main dishes, but I will definitely do so on my next visit soon.
DIM SUM. It's a hole in the wall. Sometimes you gotta flag the waitress down to get a menu. But....it's the cheapest and best dim sum in the city!!!!!! I dream about those bbq pork buns, sticky rice and shrimp dumplings, SO good!!
Good dim sum fix.. Happy hour from 2pm - close....sweet!
By far THE best dim sum in wpg.... if u go for happy hour (2pm-close mon-thurs) you cat fill your face for little dollars.! If I had to suggest one MUST have on the menu.. go for the sticky rice! Steamed in banana leaf you'll want more than 1! A must try in Winnipeg
A true gem of a place!. This place is a hidden gem. My partner and I ordered the Singapore Noodles and BBQ Chicken on skewers. Both dishes were excellent. Just the right amount of curry in the noodles. The sauce on the chicken was sweet and spicy. The chicken was done to perfection. Most of the customers were asian, which is always a good sign. This place reminds me of snack houses in Toronto and Vancouver. Can't wait to try the dim sum.
Great value and delicious food, what more can you ask for?
Skip the buffet and order from the Dim Sum menu or the regular menu. Soups, Singapore noodles, congee and Dim Sum are all good to excellent.
So delicious !!!. If u are looking for delicious dim sum that's cheap and fresh then this is the place, the food hear is so delicious and fresh any other dim sum in the city does not even count. There congee soup is also a must, mmm yum.
Good food; great prices. I like the atmosphere very unpretentious.
Hey my new favourite noodle place. This is definitely my new favourite noodle/congee place. They don't have huge variety, but just the basic noodle soup and congee items. However, they're well done and at exceptional prices. Portions are huge, up to my standard haha. I haven't tried much of their dim sum items yet but I for sure will go back!
Happy hour!!. This is my new favorite Dim Sum place! Great food at awesome prices.
I went here for the first time the other day with a few friends. We did have to wait for about ten minutes for a table as it was pretty busy.
The little wait was well worth it. Food was delicious and prompt. The service was alright, it was really busy so I understand that you can't grab us water at the drop of a hat or get us hot sauce. The pineapple buns were delicious! I would recommend the eggplant/shrimp dish as well as the calamari curry dish if you like seafood.
As the terminator says ... I'll be back!
Noodle Express is fast food, efficient and humble dim sum. You will not be surprised by haute cuisine here, but should look if you have a hankering for decent dim sum at extraordinarily reasonable prices.
Tried out Noodle Express for the first time today, and I can see why they are one of the top 50 restaurants on Door Dash in all of Canada!
The food is absolutely incredible, and the portions are HUGE!!! Extremely reasonably priced. I promise that you will not be disappointed.
The Egg Tarts are RIDICULOUSLY amazing - I could eat a dozen! We also had Taro Root Cake, Spring Rolls, Sesame Balls, Steamed Pork buns and a bunch of other delicious dishes!
The owners are very hard working, and run a wonderful establishment. We will definitely be back!
One of the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Great prices and huge portions! They have the best BBQ Duck Soup I’ve had so far and their dim sum selection is good. Friendly and very nice staff. Will always come back for amazing Chinese food.
Their Mango Pudding is the best!
My 1st time and won't be my last. Very authentic Chinese right in Chinatown! Very casual eating, nothing fancy. Today was Deluxe Shrmp dumplings and Pork Dumplings, both were fresh and delicious!
Since moving from Toronto I have really missed enjoying a local noodle joint. Pho is great, but sometimes you want other great cheap noodles. Noodle Express is perfect! Food is delicious, portions are large and fresh. I know I appear to like everything in the city, but this place really is fantastic!
Great little place with delightful dim sum. Don't expect luxury, just great food and service.
Phenomenal value for excellent food. Best Dim Sum place anywhere.
The hidden brilliant in the city. Huge portions, authentic taste. I love this place.
Update:
My first review was more than 3 years ago. And this place is still the best Chinese noodle shop all over the city.
Still love them.
It was rather busy when I came. But the food came out fresh and in big portions!!! The prices were also cheap!!
