Spent 3 weeks in Winnipeg with and this is THE place to be...great beer...great staff..great food...(the platter...omg....) and fantastically friendly regulars...home from home!!!!
Cosy community talky pub with great staff and regular regulars.
I LOVE THIS PLACE! They make everything from scratch I found out. You need to have their Chicken fingers and fries and the butter chicken poutine. Of course this place is just awesome for some drinks everyday of the week.
The Swizzle Styx had lunch here today to kick off Pub Month (we have all of our weekly lunches in March at a pub to celebrate St. Patty's Day). The Toad in the Hole is one of our favourites for March, we always have a great time and today was no different. We dined on spaghetti & meatballs, fish & chips, and yam fries and the reuben sandwich. Everyone was happy with their meals and beverages. The service was pretty good and definitely friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is not the cleanest or the most up to date but for us it's always fun! See you next March Toad!
I wish the reviews were at least somewhat currant. One review was for bad service on ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!
hahahaha
Always a fun time. Love to use this place as a "go to" pub and bar! Whenever you are looking for something to do and unsure this is a spot for a good time! Food is so-so but normally pretty busy and a good place to interact and meet people.
This place packs out fast! .... This place packs out fast!
The service was horrible on one side, but quick on the other. No seating but good vibes.
Overall, the food and service was great! Cactus cut fries were a must try item. The dip was super! Fish an chips were done perfectly and the batter was light. The Reuben was good. Great food and a great price!
I really enjoyed my meal, as did my friend. He had a yummy quesadilla. I had the pulled pork sandwich with fries. It was very tasty and extremely filling.
Can be Great. The Toad in the Hole is a pub restaurant that I've enjoyed for two things; drinking beer, and eating amazing clubhouse sandwiches. I now only go for the clubhouse sandwiches and to get them one really must go later in the day. They are only available during certain hours (evening, I believe). Why do I know this? Because I wanted one for lunch, was turned down, and ordered a very nasty scramble instead. That was not good. It was spicy, strange tasting, and just un-good. The toad club on the other hand is very good. Real turkey (not processed), and the right amount of mayo, cheese, bacon, and lettuce. The Guinness on tap is good too.
Great food. Beer is always good. Service is crap.. Okay. First of all I will start by saying that my first time to the "hole: was amazing. I had a great server, and the "Jay Cruch" chicken sandwich was like romance for the tastebuds. Since my first experience they fired the lady who made the chicken sandwich and she apparently ran off with the recipe. Needless to say there is no more "Jay Crunch." This pub is exactly what you would expect from a pub in terms of beer on tap and pub food (burgers, fries, wings, etc.) and the ambiance is very maritimes. I do like this pub a lot, but the service is crap.
I had a negative experience with a bald bartender who told me not to touch his tips if I knew what was good for me when I pushed a quarter towards the tip area. He looked like a very angry dude who had a rough life and it isn't over yet. I simply said "I don't need your quarter" and he looked like he was about to glass me so humbly walked away. If you enjoy beer and the occasional physical assault by a monkey I would recommend going to this bar on Friday or Saturday nights. Going during the week when an older gent who looks like master Yoda is working is always a pleasant experience.
Fun place to hang out for drinks.. I used to live in the village, and so I frequented The Toad on a regular basis. It's fun to sit outside and have beers, but inside can get a little overwhelming after midnight. The bartenders can sometimes be real jerks, but recently seem to have become more customer-friendly. I have tried their daily soups on several occasions and can't complain, but take into consideration that was after a few drinks.
Excellent fish and chips, topped off with a 12yr old whiskey. Glad this place is at the end of the block! Thanks Toad!
A great atmosphere if you enjoy that old English style pub feel. Tons of choices as they specialize in scotch, whisky and a handful of specialty drinks like the old whiskey sour. Great staff and service too. You can tell they take pride in their mixology. There's a pool table too! Television to watch the Olympics or various sports on and of course a quaint corner stage dressed with various brass instruments on the walls. Take a sip, you'll enjoy it here.
Possibly the best fish and chips I've had in Winnipeg. Love the relaxing atmosphere and English like decor.

Nice pub with a friendly atmosphere. Staff were friendly and prompt in their service. Food was excellent alongvwithe beer selection.
Dropped into the new place for the first time since they moved, excellent service, great food, and surprisingly the atmosphere is much the same as it used to be, very enjoyable. The fish and chips were excellent, great bar food and a good night had by all.
We love the whiskey sour and the chicken fingers here. Their specialty, Toad In the Hole is delicious! The sausage inside the Yorkshire pudding is very tasty.
My fiancé enjoys their whiskey bar. It's definitely a good way to try different bottles without needing to commit to a whole bottle. The man behind the bar is so friendly and is very helpful when it comes to suggesting new things. It's a great experience every time.
The environment is fun. If you're not for super load places, maybe go in the afternoon or earlier in the evening on weekdays. But if you're all for it, by all means. The energy is awesome.
Amazing food, amazing staff... And some of the best breakfast food in town. One of these days I'll get to try the scotch egg Benny.... One day...
I'm from Montréal and The Toad is like our Bistro à Jojo. Good ambiance, friendly staff and the drinks arent overpriced
