Review Original Joe's - Winnipeg

To begin with the overall experience was exceptional. Food was fantastic and filling. This would include the special order poutine for poutine week. Drinks were on point. Server was very friendly, knowledgeable and prompt.

Great service and very clean restaurant. Had the chance to try multiple meals from the location all were great except the Rim soup, they fillings were great with lots of noodles but I found the noodles were under cooked, the broth was very bland. If not for the chilli sauce the soup would of been warm water with chicken and shrimp.

Superb service with a great atmosphere. I absolutely loved the impossible burger with the gf bun! yum! I had it with a side salad and the garlic mash 🤤 Only thing I’d add to the menu is at least one gluten free dessert item - a tasty creme brûlée perhaps 🤔

I have previously had decent food here but the service is always lacking. Last time I tried to eat here my party waited at the host booth for 10 minutes while we watched the serving staff chatting by the bar. We even tried waving at them to get their attention. We eventually left. We waited so long to be seated we figured the service would leave much to be desired.

A little underwhelming all around. We ordered one of the burgers with fries & dill dip. The burger was very bland tasting, and the fries were not very crispy/warm. The dill dip was really good tho. I'm never blown away by the food at OJ's & this visit solidified that.

Reported me negative for not having insulted bag when I was picking up food for delivery. It is not required to have a bag by the company I was working for and there were no special instructions by restaurant about insulated bag .

Initial Visit We went for poutine week. We did not enjoy the poutine. The server seemed down to earth. He asked for our opinion of the poutine. When we told the server, it felt he avoided us after. I don't know how the quality of the rest of their food is. I feel like if we had the flavor of one of the other locations we might have liked it more. This combination just didn't work for any of us in the party that night.

I had a good time at Original Joe's, although it was far too dark and cold in there. Aside from that, the food was pretty good, if on the expensive side. We had a large party, but the tables are not movable so we ended up being spread out. Their fish and chips is decent, while the salt and pepper ribs are really good. The main dishes took an annoyingly long time to come out though, to the point where we had to ask where it was. I would go back, but only if I was not in a rush and wasn't in a large group. It is very dim and gloomy in there so if you have poor eyesight you might struggle with the menu.

I usually have the Pacific Rim soup but decided to have a wrap because I've had the Chicken Caesar wrap here before. That one is no longer available on the menu, so I ordered the Turkey Club wrap. Looked great when it arrived, sadly when I went to eat it the entire wrap is ice cold. Not room temperature, fridge cold throughout. If I wanted something cold I would have ordered a salad! (which I did have a side of Caesar salad and fries which were both great!) Sorry, but I order many wraps at many restaurants and never has it been this cold. I only ate half as it was odd to eat something this cold for dinner when I wasn't expecting it. Granted the waitress only charged me for half a meal which was fair, just wasn't a very good meal when you go home a tad hungry... Service was good and my husbands fish & chips were also good.

Awesome service, fantastic staff always making sure everythings satisfactory. Whoever does the hiring there deserves a gold medal. Had a great fish and chips (compliments to the fisherman) few weeks ago, pretty sure will be back for more � The butter chicken omfg, just orgasmic. An the girls r hotter than the sun, u can work on ur tan while ur in there!!! �

Waitresses were too busy chatting it up with guys at the bar. Drink service was horrible. She even got our orders wrong. It wasn't even remotely busy. Only positive was the nice blonde waitress.

We sat for 45 minutes waiting for our food today starting at 1:30. It wasn't that busy and all we ordered was a burger and fries and a poutine. After waiting for almost an hour, the server came out and said they lost our order and they needed to take it down again. Brutal! Forget it, we just left.

Me and my girlfriend went to Original Joe's at unicity, tonight. We don't get to go out very often so when we do its kind of a big deal. We've been there a few times and its always been good. However, most recently my girlfriends blackened salmon was under cooked, and my first thought was 'crap, i guess we cant come here again', anyway we brought it to the attention of our waitress and shortly after both managers showed up and apologized, which was nice. She munched on a side salad while waiting for the replacement. However the big problem was i finished my kona burger and her replacement salmon was just showing up... get ready for the awkwardness to watch the other person eat. But, shortly after her replacement dish showed up i got a complementary creme brulee, so we dined together as intended. I just felt it was so considerate and despite the mess up, it seems like the managers did everything in their power to try to fix it. We will for sure be coming back. Props to the managers for treating us like guests and not just customers.

Always great food, atmosphere and excellent service.. never disappointed :)

Awesome gluten free menu! Service was great ! Delicious!

It kinda sucked to have to give it only 3 stars. The food was absolutely delicious however the service was horrible. We got there last night at 6:40 took 5 mins for the hostess to even come and seat the party standing in front of us waiting. Another 5 mins for us. Then when we got seated it was another 15 mins for the waitress to even come to our table to get our drink order. Then it took another 20 mins to get said drinks plus take our food orders. Then it took about another 45mins to get our food. Meanwhile an older couple came in after we did, sat right at the bar where the bartender( in the middle of making our drinks) stops what he is doing and goes and talks with them for about 15 mins. They then order their food. Get theirs before us and then eat and leave even before we get our meals. Normally when we go there we have no complaints but this was quite ridiculous. We were pretty much ready to take our business somewhere else but because the food is good there we stuck it out. But it has made me a little gun shy about going there in the future.

My wife and I stopped in this Friday night for a late dinner with our two boys who are 16 and 18 years old. We are moving, and our house is in chaos... and we wanted to just take a break from it all and sit down together for a nice meal. We've all been working very hard this last little while. It was a beautiful evening and we wanted to sit outside and enjoy the gorgeous weather while dining. Apparently this restaurant has a "Policy" that Minors are not allowed on their patio. It's not a Manitoba liquor license issue... It is totally legal for our youngest son to be there with us... It is just a company policy that Minors are discriminated against due to their age and not allowed to sit outdoors with their parents on a patio for dinner. Our youngest son is 16. Not 5. He is bigger than I am and very, very mature. We left. I refuse to support a business that discriminates against anyone for any reason. This restaurant lost what I would think would be probably $100.00 or more worth of business from us tonight. We won't be back.

Was in town for a hockey tournament and took a chance on this place and very happy I did!!

A group of us had lunch here and it was quite good. The menu definitely has something for everyone and the service was great. I’d go back.

Nachos not so great like the grant location. Lacking in toppings and cheese. Brussel sprout appetizer really fantastic with a spritz of lemon on top

Since we are close to both here and Grant location we have been to both several times and would say they are similar in quality and service. Recent menu changes have been disappointing, reducing portion sizes and increasing costs as well as removing so favourites from the menu. So typical stuff for a chain restaurant that starts to get popular. The positive is that there are still some fantastic drink and food specials and menu items. Some of our favourites are the quinoa burger, drunken noodles and the lettuce wraps. We came here for brunch one time and had the eggs Benedict and while the Benedict was underwhelming (very little and flavourless hollandaise) the "smash" browns were incredible. Some of the best we've ever had in the city.

I have to say I only ever have one thing - the beef dip. Goes absolutely perfect with the two cold beer after work. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Hubby usually has burger and has enjoyed it every single time. Great friendly service with reasonable prices.

Usually pretty good but not on my last visit. The pop was completely flat and had no carbonation. Also some entrees come with 2 sides. I asked if I could get a double order of fries and was told no problem. I received the same amount as my friend who had a single order with a salad. I inquired and was told I was given a double order of fries. A complete lie. I had also asked for my fries to be extra crispy and they were not. Also I was told the pop was fine when it was flat. Another lie. The waitress tried it and agreed with me. I have never had these problems when I go to the St Vital original joes. I am extremely disappointed and won't be back

Came here over the weekend with a friend to try their brunch menu which is served on Saturday, Sunday's and Stat holidays if I'm not mistaken. <br/>I ordered the banana bread French toast which was very tasty! Never had banana bread (French toast style) but let me tell you .. It was a nice change from the usual French toast. <br/>Since it was banana bread, the bread was a bit more dense and very filling. The dish came with a fruit skewer and their take on hash browns which were smashed mini potatoes which had a nice crunch on the outside but still soft on the inside. They were very good and again, a nice change from the typical shredded or cubed potatoes. <br/><br/>My friend ordered the breakfast tacos and she enjoyed her dish as well. <br/>Pleasantly surprised with these two items on their brunch menu. Service was good. <br/><br/>Like their calamari here too :) great place! <br/>

Our local lounge. Been there many times. Always friendly. Great atmosphere. Best Old Fashioned I've tried so far. Haven't had anything there that I didn't throughly enjoy.

I had the steak with blue cheese and my husband had the sushi steak. <br/>Steak was cooked beautifully and portion size was spot on. <br/>There were no gluten free options for dessert though.

I've gone to this location at least a dozen times and I've never been disappointed. The red tractor nachos are a favourite as is the fish tacos and mushroom burger. These nachos might be my favourite in the city or at least second only to the King's Head.

We decided to come to the restaurant on a Thursday night. They don't take reservation but this place is quite spacious so we had a table in no time. Our server was friendly and attentive. Our food was good as well, we ordered new york steak, long beach fish tacos and jambalaya. The only thing I didn't like was the fish tacos, the shells were a bit saggy like they were made days ago or stayed in a freezer for a while. In general it was a good dining experience.

Great food and experience everytime. I always take my family from out of town here, the atmosphere is relaxed. Delicious pacific rim bowl, my absolute favorite!

Went here with friends for the first time a few weeks ago. We got drinks and apps. I got the bruschetta which was SO good, I would definitely get it again. The drinks were a bit expensive but the prices are what you would expect for cocktails in a lounge type setting. Patio Joe drink is so good and so were the Caesars.

The food and drinks, as always, were great. The service, horrible. No introduction or sincerity in her greeting. What's more, in the hour and a half we were there, we each got exactly one drink, had to wait thirty minutes for our bill, since we were not able, or eventually wanting, another drink, with the lounge half empty and two servers on staff. It wasn't even our server who came to offer us our bills. Definitely sub par. I would not recommend anyone else go there.

Not too shabby at this location. We've eaten here three times since opening. I wouldn't say it's a local favorite, but it is a nice franchised change-of-pace. Their waitress staff at this location overall is a younger female crowd. At times I felt guilty-bordering-creepy that the waitresses were dressed a little too sleazy for their age - some girls looked barely legal. I guess if they're selling the "lady-of-night-black-dress-schtick",then  they're doing it well. Our last visit I was honest and asked for what I could get full on for the least bang for my buck and it was a cheeseburger selection. A little pricey but the fill was solid. The draught house beers are quite tasty and complement the meals very well if you're not a wine drinker.

It's not terrible here. The portions are huge for the price you pay. Not a great place to have an intimate dinner, however. Very noisy from all the sports programming going on.<br/><br/>For $15 you get this huge sandwich (I got the beef dip) that's chock full of meat and artery-clogging goodness. You also get sides, which in my case I chose a poutine and a caesar salad (well-dressed).<br/><br/>Normally they don't offer chicken sandwiches anymore but they do offer the wrap, if you request for it to be put on a bun they will accommodate.

Pleasantly Surprised. Three of us tried the Original Joe's at Unicity for the first time tonight; none of us had ever been to one before.<br/><br/>My wife was extremely happy about the presence of a vegetarian menu. It was similar to an Earl's including the types of waitresses they hire (ours was very friendly and capable but the pattern of all waitresses being young, cute and short black skirts was obvious).<br/><br/> The food was quite good, their attention to detail when taking our orders was fantastic (was there anything you didn't want on your burger or in your salad? Was there anything you wanted added...)<br/><br/>Overall, a very pleasant experience. Prices were reasonable as well. We will be back.

Clip joint with an attitude! Up charged on a side that was included with meal. Young puke manager has the gall to say "they charge extra for sweet potato fries everywhere". Service was OK but obviously blind sided by not informing us of up charge. Be careful at this place. Food pretty good.

Awesome. I have been Dining at 529 Wellington for the longest time because of great food and great service, I have now found another place my wife and I will continue to dine at and for the fraction of the price of 529

I would say this a popular place for my fiancé and myself. Our last visit though we were terribly disappointed. The service was terrible... Our water cups were empty, refilled once. We waited for at least 10 minutes for our bill. Our server was rude and didn't say anything to us once we finished paying, just walked away from the table. <br/><br/>It totally takes away from dinner when you have such poor service. I think next time I will make the drive to original joes on Kennaston.

First Time & LAST!. Do you want to pay $14 for a burger? Well, you came to the right place. According to the menu, the burger comes with 2 sides but the portions are so small that I felt insulted. I asked for the fries and vegetables. There was approximately a small handful of fries which were pretty good, but, for the price of the meal, I was expecting much more than that. The quantity of vegetables was embarrassing. I received approximately 3 slivers of carrots, celery and 2 slices of cucumbers. I wouldn't have called this a "side" but rather a "front".....for a scam! I'm so upset that I didn't check out Urbanspoon before I went there because I wouldn't have gone. But, at least I know that I can trust the ratings on this website because, for a rating of 67% I wouldn't have gone. BTW, I'm surprised that the rating is that high!! Save your money and go somewhere else unless you enjoy getting ripped off!

Went there yesterday n had the cajon chicken burger with quinoa salad and potato salad.Everyone with me agreed the food was ok, but nothing special. We all felt the the service was really lacking, as it was super slow.From getting our drinks to the food arriving.Two of the drinks were coke but were so watered down,they looked clearer than iced tea.We had them taken back.It took close to 15min to get new ones.The main courses took even longer.It felt like the servers were just going through the motions and didnt care.I think if I owned that place,I wouldnt want my waitresses dressed like Hooter girls.Ok food,not ok service.It wasnt even busy there either.

First time, will return.. We were looking for a new place to watch a game, and Original Joe's was suggested to us by a friend. They have a pretty decent selection of beer, and our server suggested a couple of samplers to try. Before the game we had some wings which I thought were quite good. I like the fact they are not breaded (personal pref), and the Jamaican Jerk were very authentic tasting, as I have had them in various parts of Jamaica. Our server was excellent and paid just the right amount of attention to us and did engage in some small talk. The restaurant is tastefully decorated but boring in the sense there seems to be no theme to it at all. Is it a sports bar?...is it a casual dining spot?..etc. It could use abit brighter lighting as well as it is fairly dark inside. They do have plenty of strategically placed tv's to watch the big game and the seating is comfortable. My only complaint would be the same one I have with many restaurants; music that is too loud. I don't get it, I dont listen to music when eating at home and certainly would not have it at the volume many places do, especially when trying to watch a game. Later on I tried the "Sgt. Pepper" burger, which was very tasty and briming with fresh toppings. You can select 2 sides with your burger meal, I went with the potato salad (very good) and home cut fries (so-so). My buddy had wings, and later on he tried the dry ribs, which he thought were flavourful but a bit on the chewy side. Price-wise, it compares with places like Boston Pizza, so its not cheap, but you do get your moneys worth. This was on a Tuesday evening, and the place was pretty much packed, so they must be doing something right. Will definatly return.

The food is tasty but the wings aren't as good as the competitors. Service was lacking but they made up for it. I'd go back.

Came for a late night drink and appetizer. Tried a black cherry Tom Collins & shock top. Appetizer was a cheese dip with chirizo sausage,deep fried tortilla. Not overly impressed but will come back to try other menu items. Loud atmosphere nice to see a new local place full!

First time, but not last.. I've enjoyed food and drinks at the other Original Joe's locations in the city and now there's one in my neck of the woods and it didn't disappoint. The portion size, presentation, and tastes of the food were all satisfying. The staff are friendly and of course not hard on the eyes...Will definitely be coming back.

Great burgers and great service both times we have gone, a nice addition to the neighbourhood. Looking forward to some patio drinks when summer comes (soon I hope damn -30)
