Came in for lunch at the Albert Street location and the place was clean and tidy asthetic wise. My server Martin was friendly, cheerful and overall pleasant to deal with. The food was hot and portioned nicely. Had a great experience and will definitely be back with friends!

My all time favourite poutine from here is the traditional poutine then chilli cheese bacon comes in second. I really enjoy the food here and never had any problems.

Often stop by for lunch. The pricing is reasonable for the amount and quality of the food. A great way to get a taste of Quebec!!

Haven’t been here in a while because I found the gravy not to be the greatest, but decided to give it a second chance. Tried the perogy poutine and it was excellent! 6 large perogies on top of the poutine! Will definitely have to visit again!

BEST POUTINE AROUND...WHEN YOUR DRUNK...... UNLESS YOU ARE 12 BEERS DEEP AFTER A ROUSING GOOD TIME AT WHISKEY DICKS THEN DONT EAT HERE. This place is for drunk/hangover food. don't walk into this little shack in the exchange and expect life changing poutine.....you're 3 blocks from the "north end"

I will NOT be quitting. We had lunch today at Smoke's for the first time. Staff was friendly and efficient. As first timers I had questions and they were all answered. My girlfriend had the traditional poutine and I had the Hogtown. I was so impressed and stuff with a regular size. Add to that we at Fringe, enjoying live entertainment and a beautiful Winnipeg summer day it was awesome.

The pulled pork poutine is perfect!!! I would recommend not getting the plain poutine your first time. The gravy is too light to have on it's own but it works perfectly with toppings! They also have the best cheese curds I've ever tasted.

Late Night Craving in the Exchange. It was late on a Friday night and the place was looking steady when I had the traditional veggie poutine. After dancin' up a storm, it was a worthy splurge! The wait was maybe three minutes. Perhaps, it was just my craving for gravy and cheese, but I thought it was pretty great (in that terrible-for-your-health kinda way) :) Most importantly, the cheese they used were actual curds, not that shredded crud. The portion you get, I would say is worth the money spent. There are some places (Poutine King) where the amount you get is not worth the ten dollars it costs you. The front counter person was okay. Certainly not exceptional. However, working til' four a.m. on a Friday night and serving mostly obnoxious drunk people can earn a person a pass :P Overall, it was great for what I wanted late night and hungry for bad, bad food... I would have to say though, that if you are there before the sun goes down and are looking for high quality goodness, this may not be the place for you. The fries may turn you off... may.

Amazing choice of poutine. Tasted the pulled pork poutine last night and it is really good. The Wow size ($3 dollar extra), is worth it if you are sharing it with your buddy. Will try a different poutine next time.

I can't move! I love high calorie fare. Smoke's doesn't disappoint. First timers don't let your eyes guide your stomach. The large is "LARGE". My wife had the Philly Cheese Steak and I had the Nacho Grande. Nacho for the win. Both my wife and I preferred the Nacho over the Philly. Next time it's pulled pork. If you want something different then you need to give Smoke's a try.

I went here for the first time on my fiancé's birthday for lunch and wasn't expecting much. We were able to find parking as it was very limited. When we got in, the space was small and seating was tight. It was packed in there but luckily we found a seat. I had the pulled pork poutine and he had the nacho grande poutine. It came in a good size portion and we left full and satisfied. We both had a great first experience and plan to come again sometime. I recommend this place if you love poutines and want to try something new. Its located in the exchange near boutiques & bakeries, great for a nice walk during summer. With all the different selections of poutines on the menu, there will be something for everyone.

Smokin.... Smokes was one of my best taste experiences to try in Winnipeg. This is not a French Canadian style joint. If your too bent on the traditional poutine you will have anxiety trying to choose from all of the wonderful spin off's of the original. We loved it. Don't be worried about calories here, they have every kind of poutine here you can choose what ever your little heart desires. I had the cheese burger poutine. OMG tasty. Expect a line up on weekends during prime happy hours. But expect to be pleasantly surprised.

Fun place, strange poutine. If you're looking for good poutine, this isn't quiet the place for you. What I mean is that the traditional style isn't the best here.. however if you're looking for eccentric poutine tastes, then look no further.

I've ordered a few different kinds and have always enjoyed them. Would I rave about them? I don't think so. It's nothing to "wow" about.

In some strange universe, this is considered poutine. I still like the more traditional style, and there are better places in the city to get it. I do like this place though as I can't deny what they have is very good, but still it's just unamazing.

Pretty solid. Cozy little place, I've been there a couple of times now and while the service is fair enough, the food is really something else. First time I went I ordered something called the Slaughterhouse, which is basically a poutine with seven different types on meat on it... enough said. I felt like a man. The food seems a little pricey when looking at the menu, but you get a LOT of poutine for that. All in all I'd say a pretty solid place.

Odd one out. Me, Phatty and my son went to Smoke's and I ordered the Veg poutine and Phatty ordered the Prime beef poutine.

We went on the weekend just before it startedto get chili, around supper time. Thee was a slight line but it was moving steady.

The inside does seem quite small when there are more then 10 people in line and it can get hot inside. We both decided to order a large because we didnt know if my boy would want any, and who minds leftovers.

Looking at the price while its on the board but it does make sense when you get your meal. This thing was huge! I swear you get 2 pounds of food!

With mine, I thought the gravy was delicious. It was not salty, not fatty and tasted great. The fries and gravy were hot, though not all the curds were melted. I didnt find the fries to be limp, though they obviously loose their crunch by the time you start getting near the bottom.

Phatty felt that his meal was good but didnt think it was overly great. He said he will go back again and try a different kind and was also amazed by the portin size. Even being the carnivore that he is, he enjoyed my vegetarian dish.

I thought the package the meal came in was really cute. It made me feel like I was taking out from a 50's diner.

If their best gravy and poutine is the vegetarian one, I am totally fine with that; I thought it was great.

It Took Multiple Visits. The first time I went to Smoke's, I had ordered the Traditional poutine. As everyone has commented on the gravy, it's plain, nothing outstanding.

To be honest, I didn't expect myself to return here ever again, but I thought maybe if I would try different items, it could change my mind. AND IT SURE DID! I had the Nacho Grande, and WOW did I love it so much. I even returned the next day (and got extra jalapenos). The chili had so much flavor, and they did not smother my fries with the guacamole and sour cream, it was just the right amount!

I guess the suggested combinations on the menu are a better bet to satisfy over the bland gravy, as all the fixins help give a flavor punch!

Great concept, great location. My boyfriend and I made a stop in the Poutinerie a couple weeks ago on a sunday. We were walking through the exchange and had a mad case of the munchies. What a great location! We both remarked that once RRC's new building is up and running they'll be even busier than we hear they are during the weekdays.
The decor inside was well suited to their concept. We both decided to try the slaughterhouse that was advertised, and thought for the price of $12 what we recieved was of great value! There were 7 different meats backed inside the box and underneath were warm delicious fries. The fries could've been a little crisper, but it may be due to the cheese and gravy that oozed everywhere. The cheese was melted - which I personally love as I hate it when the cheese curds in poutines are all hard. But the meat!! We could've shared one poutine and still have been satisfied. We washed it all done with glass bottled soda pop. Yes!
The staff were friendly, but the cashier seemed new and didn't know what she was doing. Had to call for help a couple times, perhaps more training is required there. Overall, great little place!

Fun concept, ok food.. I went with my husband and we each ordered something different. I had the cheeseburger poutine with onions and he had the double pork poutine. I actually rather enjoyed mine, although I'll admit part of the joy was simply the novelty of the concept. But my husband's tasted fairly awful. We figure it was the peppercorn gravy that was off.
As for the sizes, the small left me very full and I wouldn't be able to even think of finishing a large but my husband, who was quite hungry, would have been able to (if he had liked it).
It generally has a decent wait in the line but depending on what you get, it's worth it. Then again... you could just make this at home... and it would probably be better.

Why all the complaints?. No, not the best poutine in the city (in my opinion Le Garage is). Nothing worth complaining about though. The gravy is definitely not the overly salty dark brown stuff I think a lot of people are used to. Their gravy tastes very strongly of thyme, which I believe is why so many people dislike it. I personally like it, but no, not the best. Their peppercorn gravy is fantastic though, and I love how all of their sauces (chili, italian...) have a subtle and homemade taste to them. Obviously there are portion and temperature issues, but I'm sure that will be resolved once this place becomes less of a novelty. I doubt the staff is being paid in proportion to the insane business volume they're doing.

Poutine'd. I got the pleasure of trying out Smoke's Poutinerie last Friday night, after a round of golf with one of the guy's from my youth group. While hunger may have influenced my opinion, I do think that, overall, it was excellent.

We made it downtown around 8:30 pm, and after a 40 minute wait (it was Friday night... maybe not the smartest decision), we finally got to order. I had the Chili Poutine, and he had the Bacon Poutine.

The one downside to the evening was that they had just had a shift change, and someone dropped the ball on the gravy. LUCKILY, their peppercorn gravy is delicious, and really packs a lot of flavour into the poutine!

The fries were crisp & hot, there was plenty of gravy, and the chili was everywhere. I would agree with other reviewers in saying that it seemed a little light on the cheese curd portion of things.

We both ordered the large, and had to labour through the last couple of bites to finish them off. It was an excellent experience. The staff seem to enjoy the atmosphere, and so did we!

I will definitely go back.

This place has been on my radar for sometime. With the sun shinning, it was a beautiful day to explore Winnipeg. And what better way to top it off then with a stop at this iconic burger joint. I opted for the VJ special and a side of fries. The burger can be tastefully messy, but it is still a wonderful experience. The copious amount of fries were golden and crispy. Judging from the size of the burger and the fries, you could certainly share this. If you aren’t into sharing your burger, definitely share the fries.

Johnny and his fam(crew) have been serving their signature delicious value for money burgers for more than 2 decades. Their delicious chili added moist patty burgers are worth it to stop and have a fricking bite once every few weeks. Plus so many places around to have a mini snack outside. It's a simple menu and they are all made with a load of heart and passion. Johnny and his crew, we love you.

This is one of few great experience I've ever have in the burger category in Wpg. I ordered the cheese burger. From the bread, patty, lettuce, pickles all are align with the hype that I have been hearing about, which is why I am curious and try it. However, the cheese burger is a tad too salty for my taste. On the other hand, the fries! The fries is awesome! No ketchup, no nothing.... just hot sauce, you are good to go! Even without anything, it can still compete with some fries you find in a casual family restaurants. Settings: drive-in, takeaway order. 4.5 stars! This place is cash only, unfortunately.

VJs what can I say, it’s a family owned restaurant with honestly some of the best burgers in the city, it melted in my mouth and every bite was perfect, everything was proper cooked and tasted great, they gave me a free water and I gave them a decent tip for their troubles. They are friendly the staff are nice and it really has a home cooking vibe. Great job and can’t wait to go back to try more I only had a Chance to get a cheese burger but it has been my favourite burger in a long time.

Lived in this city my whole life and driven past this place countless times. Had some time today to stop in on my way through downtown, so I thought, “Let’s do this!” Coming north bound, you can’t turn left, so you just have to compensate for the roadways. Not an issue, just an FYI. Parking was good, as it seems most people aren’t there very long - just getting their food and driving off with it. Not all pricing on the sign is accurate. They have updated pricing on the hand-written signs on the windows. Cost has gone up for everything, so not surprised. Stood in line with some regulars. They were talking about how people who have lived here forever and always drive by finally stop in for the first time. I smiled and raised my hand. I said, “That’s me, today!” The server was very helpful regarding all my questions and I got the scoop on how to order from the regulars in line. Everyone was in a great mood, talking about the delicious food and the great weather. Cash only. I ordered a ‘Special’ which is a cheeseburger with all the fixings, a fry (one size only) and a chocolate shake. I took the advice of one of the other patrons and got my fries in a box vs a bag as I planned to eat them in my car, en route to my destination and added vinegar and salt right at the counter. Fries were super crispy and tasty! Burger was flavourful, but the bun was completely coming apart in my hands. I had to eat it much faster than I would’ve liked and didn’t get to savour the experience. Maybe I’ll eat at the picnic tables next time, as my burger bun won’t have a chance to get too moist and crumbly. The chocolate shake was thick, which I love. Not easy to find those anymore, for some unknown reason. They had many flavours to choose from, so I might venture to get a peach one next time. Menu is pretty basic, which isn’t a bad thing. It allows them to process orders fairly quickly. An overall great experience. I plan on coming back soon!
