Review Prairie's Edge - Winnipeg

Jennifer Simmons
Nice quiet little place we found randomly looking on the map. Food was presented nicely, 2 of us had breakfast and the other 2 had lunch. I would've given 4 stars but 3 is based on the fact that once we received our food we were never asked if we needed anything else until I asked for the bill. Also there was no flavour on the French toast and the peaches looked questionable.

Nice place. Food 7/10 but drinks 10/10. Interesting place for dates. Beautiful environment during summer. You can walk around the park which is btw perfect spot if you are a photo freak 😜

I ordered all vegetarian dishes available at the restaurant. All items tasted very good. Taylor was very helpful. She helped me find all the veggie options.

Lovely restaurant nestled in nature. Indoor and outdoor tables available. We didn’t have a reservation but they were very accommodating. Service was great, coffee is so good; very flavourful. French toast is delicious. Highly recommend. Will make a reservation next time.

Amazing food! Had my work xmas party there and enjoyed it very much. Really good portions, the appies were quite tasty and the prime rib was some of the best I've ever had. Highly highly recommend!

Accommodated of party of 17 just as restrictions opened up. The poor waitress was running her butt off taking care of us all and did a great job. Good portions, good food, decent prices, very nice atmosphere.

Started off with the beet fritter as an appetizer we shared. Lovely! Entrées - - 3 of us had the delicious smoked beef brisket! Yum!! Hubby had the Bison stew with bannock - - loved it! Others had the pickerel and fries and it was great. Excellent service!! Thanks Beata! So... 2 years later with friends, back for eggs benedict and I chose the kale etc option without regrets. Couldn't believe I ate it all. We got a window table👍. The service was above and beyond! 5🌟 again!

The patio is great! Love being able to watch the ducks and geese in the pond below. Food was also great, this is our new go to for breakfast.

Went for the first time for Sunday brunch. It was very ok. Food was good (not great) but portions were very small and it was expensive. Service was not good. At one point my sister got up herself to get a carafe of water for the table because our server was no where to be found. Service was also extremely slow. It took half an hour from ordering dessert to actually getting it. Location is beautiful but I will warn people if they wonder about the restaurant.

Our go to restaurant, if you want great food and service, in a romantic and quaint setting! We have recommended this restaurant to friends and they rave about it as well! The food offers a wide selection for all and we will work our way through the menu. Sarah was our server and again was exceptional. The chef is amazing and we are lucky to have this genius creating tasty treats! This is a hidden jewel that we don't mind sharing. We just hope it doesn't get too popular! Us being selfish!!! Indulge and enjoy an evening with your love, friends or family. You will be happy with your investment in time creating memories for a lifetime!

The service by our server was absolutely atrocious. We watched as a server who was not looking after us, diligently looked after her tables. We were spoken to rudely and had a carafe of water deposited on our table when we requested refills. My lunch was not as I had ordered it, with a sandwich with dry bread, no butter and cold frenchfries. I can honestly say I have never had a server be as rude as the woman looking after us.

We had a wonderful outdoor summer dining experience! Very few places satisfy our requirements: no MSG, fresh, quality ingredients, professional and courteous service, beautiful outdoor space, and quick delivery of our food. Our party of five all loved the wood fired pizza, sangria and bread pudding. Michael, the chef, chatted with us while tending the pizza oven, and described his training in Naples, Italy. We will be back!
Cindy Bolduc
Beautiful place to have breakfast or lunch. Take a nice stroll in the park afterwards....lucky to have such a great spot in the city!
Uliana Kapty
The food, service and ambience all contributed to an amazing dining experience. The food quality and preparations far exceeded our expectations and the price point. I highly recommend this restaurant for a quiet, romantic dinner. The views out the windows were so picturesque. We will be back.

Food is flavourless. Price is high for what mediocre food you are served. They charge you for a bread basket. My girlfriend and i both had abdominal cramps after the meal. We then went to rainbow stage with these awful symptoms after our meal.

We had a great meal with friends here tonight. Beautiful park view, friendly staff and delicious food. Truly five star. So glad to have this gem of a restaurant in our neighbourhood. Can't wait to try the pizza!

Really nice place and good food! Haven't been to the park in a long time and remember the old coffee shop that used to be here. Much nicer now!
Anthony Reyes-Fournier
Breakfast was great the server was friendly and attended to our needs in a timely manner.

I had their bison burger, lean but lacking favours and not cooked as ordered.

A special thanks to Prairie's Edge restaurant at Kildonan Park for making my daughter's shower an amazing event this weekend. I would highly recommend them as an option if you are hosting a bridal shower or any event. 5 stars all the way !!!! Brian and Junnel were awesome to work with. Thanks !!!!!!

Had a wonderful birthday celebration with my husband on their 2nd day open.. The food was amazing and so was the service (thanks Kelly). My husband and I shared the Pork Belly appetizer (which I could have eaten myself it was sooo good). I had the Beef & Mushroom dish, filet mignon was cooked perfect and so was the asparagus and it was the best mushroom sauce I have ever had. I also had the sorbet trio (which is house made) for dessert. The flavors that evening were Pineapple, Rhubarb and Strawberry. It was so tasty and refreshing and visually beautiful with the addition of edible flowers, blueberries and strawberries! Look forward to coming back and trying other dishes on the menu.

Went to celebrate my Mum in Laws Birthday with breakfast today, they were very accommodating and the food and service was fantastic!!

Food and service were wonderful! Highly recommend!

Disappointed. The waitress was one of the rudest most unpleasant people I've ever seen in a restaurant. It was our first time here and we won't be back.

I love eating here. Beautiful room in a beautiful park. Food is very good and I've always had great service. Menu provides interesting choices.

I try to go here once a month.
WinnipegTraveller045
We were surprised at how good it was here. First of all, it's the setting that really makes it. It's in a unique building from the 1960s, but the renovations inside are quite nice. The wall of windows facing the pond/creek is huge, and lets in lots of light. It's really nice to sit outside overlooking the water.
Our kids had the burger and the spaghetti and meatballs. Both the burger patty and the meatballs were dense and not very flavourful, but the kids were fine with it. If I had gotten either of those I would have been disappointed, but I don't know if the "adult" versions are different than the kids' versions.
The sliced prime rib melt was very good - tasty beef, mushrooms with a delicious gravy, served on a nice piece of french bread. The shoestring fries were top-notch too!
The summer salad was unique and really really good. I never would have thought that quinoa, melons, arugula and field greens, and feta would work together but it was exceptionally tasty.
I'd recommend this place as a nice break during a visit to Kildonan Park.

Always Great service, nice presentation and great tasting food! A nice place we go to for special occasions with the family or just to enjoy the view and the outside in the summer!
DinerBoy
Beet appetizer was pretty good with the arugula garnish. Beets are deep fried, so they are great. I also ordered the bison burger and it was very juicy and delicious. The shoe string fries were great and not crispy but more like double fried. The roasted half chicken was very good also. Service was quite good. Prices were a bit high but the atmosphere was great.

First time here and we tried the Smoked Arctic Char Eggs benedict and the Smoked Beef Hash. Server was super friendly and the food was FAST! Will definitely come back. 😁

It's sad when "meh" is the first word you think of to describe your dining experience. Like other reviewers have stated, I agree that the restaurant's upscale decor and scenic location in the park gives it such great potential - but then it falls short of expectations. Lunch at noon on a Friday with a friend and the parking lot was full but inside, the place wasn't busy. Uh oh. No specials were offered once we were seated so we just perused the menu. My lunch date ordered a summer salad (quinoa and greens with a few chunks of feta and assorted slices of fruit) while I had a KP burger (menu said lettuce, tomato, mayo, chilli) without a bun. It said nothing about sides. Platter arrived with pale, skinny fries (which I would not have ordered and wished the server had explained other side options). Also no mayo with the smallish (not worth $15) chilli burger as promised. Everything was okay (aka "meh") - no plates worthy of taking photos of and certainly nothing that would prompt a return visit anytime soon.

This place has so much potential but I was completely underwhelmed by my food today. The setting is perfect. But I can see why it was empty on a Saturday at noon. I'm not sure what the rest of their menu is like but breakfast was meh. I'm mad now that I didn't say anything about my meager tasteless $15 breakfast. ...although nobody really asked and I was hungry so I ate it. So I ordered the smoke beef hash as they smoke their own meat there . I had about 4 tiny shreds of it in a small side dish portion of shredded hash browns with a couple pieces each of fried onion and red peppers. I ordered the eggs that were supposed to be sunny side up over medium instead but they fried the crap out of them. No toast. Seriously. ..how cheap can u be? I actually left hungry and I don't have large appetite. This restaurant should be a gold mine but they clearly need to step up their game. They could learn a thing or two from Pine ridge Hollow or Park Cafe at Assiniboine park. I will not be back there anytime soon.....Or until the next restaurant takes over.
Was in the area checking out the park and decided to pop in for drinks and apps. We were promptly greeted and decided to grab a spot on the patio. For drinks we ordered the Johnny Cash and the Rum Swizzle. We chose the bread basket, calamari, beet fritters and Mac n cheese balls for our appys. The food was fairly decent and our server was attentive. May need to come back for dinner as the entrees looked very good. A lovely patio that over looks the geese and ducks playing in the water.

Went here for a nicer dinner in the North End/Kildonan area which we don't have a lot of. The food was good which included the salads, and it was a decent portion. The Bison Burger was good however wasn't that big, while the rest of the family got Burgers and quality lamb. However, the restaurant all of the sudden stopped accepting their coupons on the weekend and it was only good through Mon - Thurs until June which bothered me, since it would have helped covered a bit of the high subtotal. Overall Good.
Food Musings
We had visited Food Evolution only once and had been delighted by the setting and the food. The newest manifestation of the Kildonan Park restaurant as been dubbed Prairie’s Edge and it feature’s locally inspired cuisine by one of my favourite Winnipeg Chefs-Michael Daquisto. We had been regulars at Pasta la Vista, a downtown restaurant that we really miss. I still dream about two of my favourite menu items- Felicitous & Sympatico and That Old Black Magic. While I reminisced with the creator of the dishes recently, I shared that we had never been successful in recreating the former, even though we thought we had done a pretty good job of duplicating the latter. Chef Michael suggested that he run downstairs where he archived his recipes and grab it for me. It is now safely in my possession for an upcoming celebration.
Hi
I have no idea how these people get away with selling shit food for that price. They should definitely shut down... Also, servers act like they hate their life while working, and are not very welcoming. Never going back and neither should you.
Bev
We had lunch today at Food Evolution and it was lovely. The view was beautiful, the service was prompt and so very friendly. Our food, fish and chips for me and a burger plate for my partner were both perfectly cooked, just the way we like them. We don't normally order dessert but we did today and they were both terrific. Thank you Food Evolution, we will be back to try your dinner menu.

Ignore Lord Igor, he's a troll! 18 reviews and 4 positive. He's FoS!

The service was fantastic! Friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable. The chicken paprikash with spaetzle was delicious. The pumpkin pie with whipped cream was worth a second piece!

Food Evolution has great atmosphere with a great view over-looking the duck pond/skating rink.

I would recommend Food Evolution to anyone looking for great food with a great view.

Absolute trash. Over-priced slop. This place is the epitome of the term "rip-off". As I told the manager of this dump as I left, "The fact that this place masquerades as an eating establishment is an insult to anyone with a palate." They should all be ashamed of themselves.
Bobby Digital
Food was terribly overpriced for the food we received. It was a busy night but it does not excuse what we were served. Ordered a caprese salad for $15 that came with 3 very thinly sliced pieces of mozzarella. Same with another salad, was suppose to have candied pecans, we barely got one pecan. Calamari looked like someone dumped (not sprinkled) salt all over it. Considering we had previously had an amazing food for a catered event, all the food ordered on this occasion was pretty disappointing. Will not be returning here for dinner ever again.

Sunday, May 24 th four of us went for an early dinner to the Food Evolution Restaurant in Kildonan Park. It was a lovely day and the park was very busy.
This is the second time I have been to the restaurant and the food is very good and the service is excellent. I would return, however my friend and I used the women's washroom in the foyer of the restaurant. It was absolutely filthy!
While I realize there is a need for public washrooms in the park, I question why the restaurant does not have separate washrooms within the restaurant itself?
For this reason I would hesitate to return to Food Evolution .

Mother's Day Brunch (May 10, 2015). Pleasant, comfortable atmosphere inside the restaurant with what will be nice views when the digging/landscaping is completed outside. Polite and for the most part, attentive service. Nice selection of brunch food that was frequently replenished, but focused on breakfast options. Above average: freshly made, moist and fluffy biscuits; thickly-cut smoked salmon; good sausages; nice selection of ripe fruits; a yummy fried mix of potatoes, onion and thinly-sliced sausages; excellent coffee; and freshly-made, mouth-watering eggs benedict, served table-side by the chef. Average: the frittata; pancakes; and french toast (which would have been above average, but was stuffed with a creamy fruit filling--a nice touch--that resulted in the centre being soggy). Needs improvement: none of the bacon was even remotely crispy; it would have been nice to have butter and jam available to top the biscuits, as well as lemon slices and more mustard to accompany the smoked salmon; and a couple of dessert options would have been welcome, particularly as we were celebrating a birthday, as well as Mother's Day. I'll definitely try the restaurant again to sample their regular menu.

First Time Experience. Food was great...service was good....decor excellent - went with friends and will certainly go back

High quality in a picturesque setting. This is a long time coming to have a high quality restaurant in this area of the city. I have been here about four times now and have not been disappointed so far. You cannot ask for more, great food, with panoramic views of the park and easy parking! Since I have just about tried every entrée on their menu now I home they made add a few more new ones. It is only hoped that the park hastens the beautification of the pond the restaurant has direct view of!
Hamma
Dinner. Menue to restrictive with only one type of soup available, ie Curry which a lot of people don't like and too few main coarse items to choose from.
Meal was good, not great but service slow for second time eating there.

Disappointing. When I saw that the chef from the long-ago Lindenwoods restaurant Dacquisto had opened this up, I was really excited--and even more so when I saw that they have a wood-fired oven and offer a Wednesday night $10 pizza special. I couldn't wait to try it. The pizzas at Dacquisto were exceptionally good. What a disappointment awaited at Food Evolution! The pizzas were absolutely ordinary . . . no great flavours or textures. They did not even seem to be from a wood-fired oven. They were no bargain at $10 each, either. There was only one server and she was very pleasant, but run ragged.

Delicious!. This was certainly not the Kildonan Park Pavilion that I remember from my childhood. No hotdogs or fries tonight and I am more than pleased with that. The setting is beautiful and can only get lovelier as spring and summer set in. The restaurant is pleasant with plenty of room between tables so you aren't accidentally listening to other's conversations. The servers were friendly and hospitable.
As for the food, I started with smoked duck on butter lettuce that was perfectly dressed. The entree was beef and mushrooms done medium rare. It melted in my mouth. Dessert was new on the menu and unpronounceable but flaky pastry filled with marscapone, served warm with a scoop of real vanilla ice cream.
A real treat.
I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Exceptional Eating Spot!. I've eaten lunch twice and dinner twice and all four experiences have been wonderful. Friendly fun staff that always greet you and make you feel very welcome! Every meal I've had has been presented beautifully and all have been delicious! My favourite is the fish and chips with coleslaw!! The biscuits are incredible too!

Food Evolution is a fantastic addition to this end of the city, being located in gorgeous Kildonan Park makes it even more of a pleasure to attend. I have brought guests with me each time and they are all return customers bringing their family & friends now! I look forward to many, many more visits!

Cindy Sullivan

Great Restaurant! WOOD FIRED PIZZA YUMMY!. I had been to Food Evolution for Brunch a while back and was very impressed. Moderately priced, quick service and hot delicious breakfast with a beautiful view of the park through their large wrap around windows. The restaurant was full and everyone seemed to really be enjoying themselves, including the staff. Went for dinner with my bf on Valentines Day and had a great time. Again the restaurant was packed but service seemed seamless. Even though the restaurant was full, the timing of all our food and drinks was spot on. Food was really good with a nice menu selection. Shared a wood fired pizza as an appetizer which turned out to be a great decision. I am a pizza snob and this is the best authentic pizza I have ever had outside of Italy. Best in this city and believe me I have tried them all. Ran into the chef as we were leaving, tried to compliment him but he kept cutting me off thanking us for coming and asking about our evening! He seemed to genuinely care that we enjoyed ourselves. Left with a very good feeling about this place and will spread the word.

Dioane. My husband and I were there for dinner tonight and had the pickerel. It was very nice and not one bone! The Brussels sprouts were too black but still tasted good. Our waitress, Romy, was personable and helpful. The wait for dinner was not overly long either. We will go back again.

Four visits. This restaurant should and could be so much more. My first visit was in July for lunch with friends from alberta. Beautiful day and we were seated out side. I eventually had to to go inside to find some one to serve us. I thought perhaps they were busy inside. Only two tables were occupied. My sandwich was just that, a plain sandwich.
Second visit was October . Service was attentive and food good, not great.
Third visit was in December . We only wanted a casual evening, pizza in the cafe/ bar area, however we were seated in the dining room. For a Friday evening it was quiet. My last visit was a few days ago.. Service was attentive. We were seated at a table under pot lights which I found glaring and annoying, when looking about the room other tables enjoyed softer lighting. Our table of six ordered different selections from the menu. All looked pretty. The food itself was good to fair . No one could say, wow was that ever good.
Even though the menu offers a fair selection it is too complicated and busy.
I live in the area and we so want a restaurant that we can enjoy a pleasant dinner with out having to drive to other areas of the city. After four visits I really have no desire to return.
It didn't wow me.

Over priced terrible food!. Interior is nice definitely nothing else.Menu came with a stain on it. We were not told of any daily specials. Breakfast came with tiny pieces of rye toast, overcooked dried out potatoes that I left on my plate. The ham was too salty to consume. I had to ask for jam. The server brought me some red liquid that did not appear to be jam. I asked for HP SAUCE and was told they don`t have such. I have never been to any restaurant that serves breakfast and doesn`t have this sauce.Price was $9.99 Fish and chips consisted of cold fries 2 small pieces of cod for $16.00. This was by far the worst fish and chips. Coffee was good @$2.99. We were totally surprised that this restaurant is part of WOW HOSPITALITY. This is such a disappointment. We hope you improve. We will not return.

Good Food - Horrible service - Better Improve it.. I was just at the Food Evolution for lunch with six woman. My friend and I were the last to sit at the table. The others had menus. We waited forever and I finally got up and got our menus ourself. No one came to fill water glasses nothing until I finally got sight of a waitress and told her we were ready to order and could we please have water. She asked if we wanted a beverage. She never told us the special of the day nor that they had pizzas. I guess she assumed we saw the sign at the door which we had not. We had to ask what the soup of the day was.
We ordered and got our food which was delicious. Everyone was very pleased with their meal. After waiting what seemed and eternity, I asked for the bills. We were never asked if we wanted dessert or tea or coffee after the main course.
The ambiance is delightful, food is good but the service is attrocious. There is a lot of training needed.
I recently had dinner there on a Saturday night in October and once again the food was terrific and but the service lacked a little polish, however, it was not as bad as today.
I hope WOW entertainment doesn't blow this as, with a little tweeking, it could be a little gem in the north end of the city.
Marlene
MSG
Great restaurant. We have been here 4 times since it opened. The brunch menu has changed and we think it's great. 2 eggs with bacon or ham or sausage at 7.99 is cheaper than most in the area. The dinner menu is good and will keep changing over time. Thank you WOW hospitality for coming to this side of town. The pizza and sandwiches are also good and well priced.

Charming & unique in a spectacular location. Just had lunch there - previous occasion was dinner. Food was great both times and service was fast.
Soup tasted homemade and prepared today: bacon, potato & shrimp. Great sandwich, my lunch date had the haddock and fries - her go to order around the city, and said this was one of the best. At this time of year, great color and great view out the floor to ceiling decor. Renovations continue the modern theme - v. cool. We love it.
Peggy
Food Evolution. Service very friendly, fast. Food was delicious, especially the Schnitzel.

Nice down to earth food. The menu had good variety and prices not outrageous
The only thing is they don't have a children's menu but they did offer 1/2 portion for our granddaughter
The chicken dish was the only overpriced dish we had, it would not have been enough for an adult man and at the price was not a sufficient quantity
Very impressed with the room and hopefully the city get on to making the pond in front more pleasing to the eye
Overall we enjoyed it and will be back

Menu Choices Sparse, Food Alright, Service Horrible...... When hiring for serving staff, I would recommend checking past references before hiring them. I have had previous experience with one of your current staff members at another local restaurant about a year ago. I think her name is Caitlan. She was loud, horrible and rude then, and still is. Unfortunately she ended up being our server. She displays no care or concern or respect for customers and is way too loud for this kind of establishment. Maybe a bar would be better suited for her. If you would like to receive my continued business and support, I won't be back until she is gone.

Good food .... terrible service. We first got there and were being served by someone who blamed all the issues on the restaurant "i dont know why there is no bartender right now, we are short cutlery and napkins, and also spilt butter on my dates VERY expensive bag, butter leaves grease stains remember. Spoke to the manager on duty and got some wine comp'd because of it and the server we originally had completly left our table. after finally making a small scene (small scene as there was only 1 other table there). Finally our second server stepped up to the plate, she was the one who got the wine comp'd gave us much better service, she put out the fire sort of speak as everyone at my table was very angry to the point we just wanted to leave but she did a impecable job serving us.
We thought it was very odd that there wasn't only no bartender there wasn't a manager on duty when we first addressed our issue.
No complaints about the food however they really need to update and get better wait staff because they were very dead and our first server was horrible to the point where she just left.

North End's best kept secret.. This place is simply great, from the service to the quality of food to the most unbelievable setting for dinner or lunch......thoroughly impressed. Well done Wow!!
Janice
Where's the food?!?!. Went to Food Evolution last night before the show. We (2 people) ordered our food at 6:30 - we told them that we had tickets to the show - we walked out at 7:45, still hungry. Never got our food!! Just sayin!!

This place is open? Could have fooled me.. I had the misfortune of going here for lunch in July. The sign on the door said they weren't open until 5 pm, but we went inside and asked, and sure enough - they were open for lunch. "Oh, that sign is wrong". It was a piece of paper taped to the window, maybe you should change that.

This place had been open for more than a month. In that time, maybe they should have a website by now (WOW! Hospitality "apologized for the inconvenience" though, so I guess it's fine then?) There is a link to their menu, but it's only the dinner menu - not one item from it is available at lunch. And good luck picking something good from what is available. One of us had a meal that was fine, but made us not want to come back. Another meal was so embarrassing that it made us wish we hadn't gone the first time. How do you screw up caesar salad that badly?! I had to check my surroundings, to make sure I wasn't being fed in a hospital.

This isn't the evolution of food, it's a revolution against good food. Sorry, Wow!, between this place and Muddy Waters, you're on your way to needing to be called Meh! Hospitality.

Dinner in the park. Totally enjoyed our dining experience. Waiting staff were friendly and helpful. Found the menu to have a very good selection. The pate appetizer plate was delicious, and the entrees of fish and chips and beef and mushrooms were equally as good.
It is about time a higher quality restaurant opened up in the north end of the city.
Will be back!!

Disappointing. Had lunch here yesterday. Very disappointing. Won't be back.

I had a Reuben Sandwich with Soup of the Day. The soup (potatoe something-or-other) had a "gloopy" like mucilage consistency and a sort-of potatoe taste. My Reuben sandwich was pathetic: the corned beef and sauerkraut filling was no thicker than one slice of bread...and NO SWISS CHEESE! What kind of Reuben sandwich has no Swiss cheese? My lunch partner had fish and chips. The chips were very good, almost, dare I say it, home-made. On the other hand, the fish was disappointing. The fish fillet inside the batter was so small and thin, the taste was overwhelmed by the taste of the deep fried batter. Both meals were small portions so you may leave hungry, as I did.

The facility has been nicely remodelled, tho'. Comfortable seating with nice views overlooking the sludgy pond. Menu prices seemed to be lower than other restaurants but these meals were not acceptable at any price. Needless to say, we were not "Wowed". BTW, Food Evolution, here's what a Reuben sandwich should look like.

Finally a new restaurant in West K!. I cannot believe all the comments of people complaining about the price. I took my wife here a few nights ago, and found the prices to be very reasonable. We had an appetizer, two entrees and a $50.00 bottle of wine, and the bill came to $120.

The most expensive thing on the menu (other then wine) was under $30.

The service was good, the food was delicious, and the place was nicely renovated. The night we went it was filled mostly with seniors, but I hope it picks up and becomes a spot for younger people to hang out, have some drinks and reasonably priced dinners in West K. Lord knows there are not many options for good food in the area.....

Hits and Misses. Even though this restaurant has only been open a short time, I'm sure it will take off mainly due to a lack of fine dining options altogether in that area of the city. The interior of the restaurant is lovely and would make a great date spot. I appreciate that the menu attempts to put a twist on "comfort food" while reflecting Winnipeg's eastern European heritage and culture, especially of the surrounding neighbourhood, but they really need to expand their menu options. Milk and cookies for dessert? C'mon! I had the perogies and while they were very good, it would have been nice to try perogies filled with something other than potatoes and cheese. When I was in Eastern Europe a couple of years ago, we tried perogies filled with mushrooms, cherries, beef, etc. The steaks were ok but had been slathered in butter. The beef tenderloin and curry chicken wings were delicious...but the cheapest bottle of wine was $45! So there were some hits and misses, but I would like to come back once it has been open a few months. Looking forward to reading other reviews.

Sunday lunch. I took my daughters for lunch. The staff seemed surprised we wanted to sit down and kept asking us if we wanted the café menu??? We ordered the Chicken Panini which came on whole wheat bread (which the waitress told us) but it was VERY small and had NO flavor at all. We were not given napkins until we asked. no suggestion of soup or salad. We considered dessert as we were still hungry but she never returned so we left. It seemed like they were not really open. Really disappointed. We need a restaurant in this area!!

Hard to say. Called for reservations, left a voice mail its been 5 days. They never returned my call. Just poor for a new restaurant.

Hoping for more. Since the same company has a restaurant in City Park, I was expecting the same type of quality. i didn't find it here. The menu is a jumble and I'm not sure what direction they want to go. My dinner of beef and mushrooms, came with 1/2 a plate of fries, 4 pieces of beef, with little or no mushroom sauce and 4 perfectly cooked asparagus. I don't consider 1/2 a plate of fries a great dinner for the price. I know they can do better and I hope they will. Sitting outdoors on the balcony was really nice. We have very few restaurants in this area. We desperately need something with good quality food. I hope they can make some changes and make this work.

Huge potential. The food is fantastic and you can tell the kitchen uses high quality ingredients. In saying that, this restaurant is located in a park. People want great food as well as leaving full without strapping their wallet. I hope to see this restaurant adapt to consumer feedback and increase portion size as well as having a predominately vegetarian friendly dish, this ain't the 90s people.

Food evolution comment. A lovely place to go for breakfast, but it won't last because the menu is way out of line pricewise. The people that frequent kildonan park for the most part, cannot afford their prices. one order of baked egg and one order of pancakes and two coffees came to 36.00 without the tip

Comment on Food EVolution disappointment. Felt that the restaurant was very elitist. With the current menu prices, a large part of the population is cut off from enjoying a park restaurant experience. Those who are looking for something more economical are limited to the cafe items that you order from the counter. Sends a strong message to folks about who is welcome to eat here and who is not.

For lower income, seniors, families (etc.) this is likely to be a one time, if not a straight-up turn around at the door.

Real North Ender. My husband and I ordered the perogies. We had to wait quite a long time to receive them. When we did we were surprised about how small and thin the 6 perogies were. The plate was $11.00 each with no sides. The sauerkraut is a purée drizzled under the perogies. We had a good laugh and went home to eat.

Terrible variety. No veg options. No white chicken. Mostly seafood. Very disappointing. No wood fired pizza as advertised.
Food Musings
We had our heart set on dining at Food Evolution this past summer when we attended the fabulous performance of The Little Mermaid at Rainbow Stage. Unfortunately (for us), our tickets were for a Monday evening and the restaurant is not open on Mondays. It took us this amount of time to get back to this end of the city. But we were certainly glad that we went to the effort. This beautiful pastoral scene can be viewed from the dining room window. You can imagine what it will look like when the pond is frozen and it is covered in glistening snow with families enjoying a skate. But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here…… We were really impressed with the refurbished décor of the bar (pictured above) and the dining room, having not been to the building since it was a cafeteria eons ago. Beautiful touches like this etched and stained glass adorn the restaurant. Our server was very pleasant and efficient but we were glad that we arrived for an early lunch because by the time we left, she appeared to be the only one taking care of a very busy dining room. D selected a Breakfast sandwich: which included two over easy eggs, ham and tomato. He was surprised that the menu admitted using Miracle Whip which happens to be his favourite, but is not usually boasted of. The biscuit was the best part, but was so fresh that his sandwich kind of fell apart as he tried to tuck in. It was equally delicious when eaten with a knife and fork, so no harm was done. Being a former American and “hash” lover, he was looking forward to the sandwich being served alongside a traditional hash. This was not to be. “Smashed Hash” turned out to be skin-on baby potatoes that had been pressed open to cook. We make this dish at home and love the results when a liberal amount of olive oil glistens on the skin as well as lots of course sea salt and freshly ground pepper. I settled on the Ruben particularly when I saw that it came with hand-cut fries. The latter were absolutely excellent. The R
