These burger joints are getting fewer in numbers all the time.We hit this place up every so often and it never disappoints.Our favorites are always the Greek salad and their burgers.Prices are in line with the market and the food is great. This isnt a fine dining type of restaurant but its comfortable and clean. If you are looking for a good burger and fries joint I would recommend these guys.
Anything less than a 4 star review is wrong. Simple as that. The burgers are great. The chili fries are great. I'm rating it 5 because it's worth it.
One of my favourite meals is a hamburger with fresh and hot french fries. George's on St. Mary's has never let me down. The service is always efficient, courteous, and friendly. Parking is never a problem. However, I do have one concern. A litre of wine costs $25 while a half litre is $20. In my opinion, that $20 price should be reduced to no more than $15. As it stands, it encourages people (some of whom are drivers) to drink more than they should. Also, as it stands, a half litre and a 6 oz. glass cost more than a litre. That is no logical.
The fries are so good! Burgers and gyros are also very good but definitely comparable to other places. Service good and cleanliness also good. Not really great on atmosphere but if you are looking for delicious food this is a great spot.
The poutine here is amazing. I've never been disappointed! The fatboys are good but it seems like the burger itself is getting smaller because the bun is almost double the size. Too much bun. The hotdogs are good too.
I had a fat boy burger, fries and a vanilla milkshake here. The burger was very good, although it was so big it fell apart and was nearly impossible to eat. The fries were very good, and the milkshake was outstanding.
In my opinion, VJ's still has the best burgers and fries in town, but the milkshakes at George's are definitely better.

Excellent food! Barely a wait, even when it's crazy busy. I know they had some issues with their fries being cooked enough, which I think Has worked itself out (new fry cutter I understand? Not sure what that Has to do with cooking fries through. It seemed to my husband (who had a family burger joint) that the oil wasn't hot enough (not letting the oil heat up enough between batches?)
No matter what we order, the food is insanely good. On a few occasions, our order has been incorrectly taken, but the waitress always comes back to check so quickly, which is awesome as the replacement is always quick coming back. Some places you have to chase

The servers are all awesome. But, sadly I find the owner pretty full of herself and is quite prone to cutting you off in mid sentence when your ordering etc. I prefer to be served by regular wait staff (how often can you say that?) however, she is always there, and certainly pulls her weight and seems Great to her staff. Maybe just dial It down a bit.
I have a lot of good memories in this restaurant. The burgers and hot dogs are very good and they have many greek items on the menu. The price is great and the fresh buns they use are a big plus for me. Never leave hungry when I come here.

I love eating here, especially with family! Lots of food for what you paid! The fat boy is my go to, but the chicken pita is also very good. George's makes really good fries too! Compared to similar burger joints, George's delivers great taste at a much better price!
I was there on the weekend and food was great as always and service even better, our waitress was very friendly and came back to check on us a few times to make sure we were doing ok. But I think I upset the owner at the time I was paying when I told her that I wanted to make sure that my server would get her tip as I know for a fact that the employees there are not allowed to keep their tips and I know this because some one I know worked there and this was the reason why she stop coming in to work. But as they say who has nothing to hide, hides nothing, so why would she get upset? That is the question...
Huge portions and delicious food! My go to item is the chicken pita and it is fantastic. This is one of the best I've had in the city. The platters are big enough to split between two people.
I had the chicken souvalki platter today. The souvlaki was excellent. Huge chucnks of tomatoes. The fries are almost too much for one person and are a meal unto themselves. You get what seems like 3 - 4 times the amount of fries that you would get at a chain fast food place. You also get a salad. For $11.50, it's a good deal.
We dined here yesterday for an early dinner. The place was packed, that was a good sign. I enjoyed my Fat Boy and fries – what a delicious burger! The fries were fresh and crispy. We also shared an order of onion rings, cooked to perfection! My dining partner enjoyed a chicken souvalki wrap with fries. They commented that the tzatziki sauce was blande. Our service was just right. They took our orders quick, brought our food promptly, and refilled our drinks as needed. Overall, this was a great place to grab a burger and fries, and the menu offers so much more so we may just have to go back! My only warning is they do not accept MasterCard so be aware.
Hands down the best burger joint in the city! Awesome food and even better service. Those milkshakes.. I'm going to get fat bringing new people here to show them how great it is.
Always my go to for a FatBoy! Nothing beat it, I tried a burger from Five Guys, and it's definitely up there but nothing beat a Georges Fatboy.
We go here all the time. Fast service, good food, large portions and reasonably priced. Not easy to pick a healthy option with their delicious burgers and fries though! Breakfasts are a steal at the price as well. Would definitely recommend.
A fatboy is definitely the way to go if you're checking out George's! That's what they're known for, why would you order anything else! Homemade fries are a hit as well.
Portions. Burger is definitely smaller than the bun. It used to be bigger. Dairy Delight on St.Annes is much better.
Simple. I like to go to George's for nice and easy food. Stuff I could pick up at some fast food joint but I know at George's the flavour and quality will be there!
Ordered the cheese dog for the first time last night, along with what was supposed to be a small fries and a started ceasar. The fries were great, as per usual. The salad and hot dog, not so much. I would still come back, as the burgers and milkshakes are some of the best in the city. So if your stuck choosing between a cheeseburger or a cheese dog, go with the burger!
Yummy!. Had a pregnancy craving for chicken fingers and honey dill. Got my boyfriend to stop at the st vital George's location to satisfy this craving. Food was delicious, as usual.
Boyfriend had the fatboy platter which he loved.
Will be back when the craving strikes again!!
Large menu selection and HUGE portion sizes. Very delicious every time I've gone. They recently prettied up the place with new chairs, seat coverings and a nice paint job too.

Always very good. No matter when we go to Georges the place is always packed. They make everything the way I like it. I like my burger with extra fillings and lots of fried onions and there is never a problem. When I feel I need to take it a bit easy(my blood is coursing through my veins way too fast) I have their Greek Salad with chicken and pita bread. I have yet to finish an order. It is huge. They always have fresh tomatoes and lettuce and that makes the salad great.
My SO always has the Gyro and she enjoys Georges. At our last outing to Georges she splurged and had a chocolate milkshake and it was one of the best she's had, it was thick, rich and chocolatey. And she knows chocolate!!! My son had a chiliburger and it came smothered in chili sauce. I distracted him so I could try the sauce and it was as I figured, a hint of spice and very flavourful.
I am not a sub person but my son goes there often for their subs and he loves them..
St Vital George's is the best in the city. I've tried the George's on Henderson and on Portage and both were dismal compared to the original on St. Mary's. They have recently redecorated the interior so it's more modern. Their greek salad is pretty good and nicely flavored, although sometimes it can have too much lettuce and very few olives, tomatoes or feta. I've tried their chicken souvlaki dinner, which is fairly priced for the portion of food. The best meal has to be the fat boy and fries. The fat boy burger is oversized and hits the right spot with it's savory flavor. The fries aren't greasy, lightly crisped and meaty on the inside. Overall, a great place to forget your diet.
The burgers and service is always great! Very consistent, great value. One of the best in the peg. George, no MasterCard? Then using my depot card wants to charge me .35c? Really? NOT impressed.
BEST IN THE WEST. George's on portage has the best burgers and fries around and the friendliest staff/owners anywhere! I've tried all of the "high" review ones and this George's holds it's own.
Greatest Hot Dog. Their foot long hot dog was probably the best I've ever had. I went there over a week ago and I'm still thinking about it. It was huge and loaded with pickles. I can't wait to go back.
One of the only takeout burgers I'll buy. Not into the clown burgers but I will chow down on a whopper occasionally. I like the fries alot as well.
Classic. The fatboy with fries has been a favourite of mine for about 20 years. The fries are good. The burger is top shelf. 8.8/10.
George's is a good place to eat.. Original George's is a great place to eat, I love love love their chicken fingers with honey dill sauce on the side with a caesar salad, though if you get the caesar salad if your by yourself I recommend you get a starter caesar salad as the regular salad size is rather huge enough for 2 or 3 people, unless you like a lot to eat then have at it. Their burgers are huge as well and very yummy, you would definitely have to go to george's hungry or you'll end up bringing stuff home with you, which can still be a good thing. And staff is very good to, they are nice and up beat and know the menu well.

Only the St.Vital Location!. Why does every other location have inferior food and staff? This location is easily the BEST burger in Winnipeg. Over 23 visits and never a bad meal or experience. Yet we go to any other location and it's like I'm in another part of the world, not even close to the original location...... Too bad. I love this restaurant.

Large Portions...Great Value!. I have frequented George's for years now. The food is continually hot and fresh. The portions are large enough that even my hubby is full after a meal. It is great value if you have many mouths to feed. The service is always fast and efficient. I do wish the dine in area was bigger but then it would probably still be full any way.

A good greasy spoon. If your looking for a burger and fries this place will fit the bill though it is not the best out there. Booths and chair dining, seats about 40. At regular dining times expect a line up. Parking is good. A big downer is the smell of the grease. I have not smelt a greasyer place. Love the fries and chillie. Milkshakes came in an old milk bottle at one point but they changed that. Did have an issue with a burger not cooked enough. Instead of acknowledging that fact, the waitress stated it was red spices though she did not charge me for it. Expect large portions but also abit higher prices. Expect also added on fees to use their debet machine.. If you count your pennies, bring cash. 3.5 out of 5 stars

Absolutely love George's!! I've been going for years with my parents! And now I take my kids there. Great food, good prices and huge portions. The service is always friendly and fast. Honestly the best Poutine I've ever tried in my life! But my all time favourite it the fat boy, absolutely delicious. I recommend going to everyone I know. Really great small restaurant. Two big thumbs up !!!
Had the dimitris burger and was in beef and cheese heaven for 30 magical minutes. Homemade fries with chili was great also. Loved this place. Made me wish I lived in Winnipeg!
Impressed. So impressed with the quality and utter yumminess of this St.Vital gem. A hearty menu that offers plenty besides the must have Fat Boy. Beat up Diner vibe with much loved poutine. Orig. George's is undoubtedly in the top 3 Winnipeg burger joints.

Excellent Burgers, Excellent Portions. I always come to George's when I feel like having a good burger or if I feel like a gyro.
Service can be pretty hit or miss, it depends on how busy the restaurant is - Which is usually very busy. The lobby area isn't big enough to accomodate many of the people waiting for a table or those waiting in line to pay for their meal. I usually call to place my order in advance and order for take-out, despite this I'll still sometimes wait 10-15 minutes due to the lineup.
When eating inside, the waitresses are usually pretty good about keeping your glass topped up and checking to see if anything is needed. It seems a lot of the time there aren't enough waitresses to handle the amount of customers in the restaurant - even considering how fast they move. As mentioned before the lobby is very small and crammed with people so I can imagine this would cause slowdown for waitresses trying to get by. I don't feel the waitressing staff is to blame - I always see them working hard.
In terms of food, in over 50 visits I've had mediocre food maybe twice, every other visit has been phenominal. Prices are great for the food and portions you get. I'll usually get A double fatboy and fries w/gravy or a gyro dinner and end up paying about $12. (for takeout) I almost always end up with leftovers for another meal, the portions are that big! A double fatboy and an order of fries is usually enough to feed two people. Of all the places I've eaten, George's definitely has my favourite burgers in Winnipeg and I highly recommend them.
Best Restaurant of it's type in the city!. Love George's, the food is great, the portions huge and the prices and service good as well! For me this is the best burger and fries in the city and I always have a good experience when I go to George's. I haven't tried much else but I did try chicken fingers a friend had one time and the were great too! If you're looking for a big juicy burger with lots of toppings and huge plate of fries then you won't regret hitting up George's! This review is ONLY for the George's on St Mary's though near Bishop, never been to the other ones.

Boo ya. Big fan of Georges. Love the FatBoy burgers the chilli is perfect and just the right amount of condiments, and they also make a fantastic Greek salad. I go there whenever I am in St Vital around noon or dinner. To be honest I often try to be in St. Vital at those times for that reason. There is a few of the staff that have been there since i started coming there. Most be the owners by now.
Great service. Great food.. They have GINORMOUS buns for their burgers and some days it seems like your burger is more bun than meat, but it's still a damn good burger. Their chili is excellent, whether it's on your burger, your fries or your spaghetti. They always give you giant portions of food, even the onion rings. I always come here expecting to bring home a doggy bag of leftovers for the next day at home.
They tend to get busy at lunch and supper time (both with sit in and take out) so service can be slow, but it's still pretty fast. Food is always hot, and the price is definitely right. The servers are great, and if your table is still a little messy they always apologize and quickly clean it up.
Still the best. Great place to get a fat boy burger, and the portions are HUGE. So huge that if you order their biggest burger and manage to finish it, you'll be crawling to the car.

Good Burgers. I have never been disappointed with the burgers at this place, my favorite is the Dimitris burger, 3 patties of barley get your mouth around the burger and bun heaven. Once you start you can't put it down for 2 reasons 1st it is sooo good and the 2nd if you do it will fall apart.. By the time your done if you don't slip into a meat coma before finishing it your hands are covered in yummy sauce so don't wipe it off give those fingers a good licking.
Only thing I have been disappointed in is once and awhile the fries you can tell when they need to change the oil by the quality of there fries. But then again if you are eating the Dimitris burger you don't need fries..
