We've been to Fishbone on a few occasions. It's definitely a favourite in the area.
Small, intimate restaurant with tasteful decor. Service is typically prompt. They have a decent wine list with some great Portuguese selections at reasonable prices. I believe they also offer BYO with no corkage fees on Tuesday.
We've eaten a few things on the menu (which they change periodically), but what stands out is their ability to cook seafood properly. Nothing has ever been overcooked/rubbery.
The mussels are fantastic. Be sure to ask for extra bread to mop up all the sauce.
If available, try the grilled calamari stuffed with chourico. Perfectly cooked, full of flavour... just an all around good dish.
I also recommend the paella. They use enough saffron that you can taste it, then load it up with shrimp, mussels and chourico, while smaller bits of octopus and scallops are nestled in the rice.
This is quality dining without having to drive downtown.
Other reviews complain about the service. This hasn't been an issue for us the few times we've gone.
This is a small restaurant with around 40 seats including bar. I went there on Saturday with heavy rain. Unexpectedly, it's full and people had to wait at bar and entrance even its after 8!
We had crab cakes and grilled calamari as appetizer. Their crab cakes had special flavour which stood out from the crab cakes from other restaurant.
I had the special, Mediterranean Sea Bream as main course. It's a whole fish! The waitress did a great job in deboning. After deboning, she's surprised why I asked her not to take away the "debris" 😝 she does not understand that as Asian, we really eat the whole fish, from head to toe!
My friend ordered steak and scallop. They were delicious too.
I was really full after having a whole fish! However, I could not resist the Bartlett Pear. It's not soft, still kind of crispy. This is the texture I like. To finish the meal with a glass of baileys coffee made me feel satisfied.
However, they charged us for just hot water! The water is not filtered as you know stouffville water has high minerals with heavy chlorine. So the taste is a bit strange.
The chair is not very comfortable though I really like their round table in the middle. 😉 the lighting is really dark. @
The service was very attentive at the beginning but when they were full, the waitress started to lose temper. 😜
I think I will go again coz I want to try their sardine and pork sausage. The presentation is cool!!!!
OMG! Just are there. Amazing. A discrete gem. Fantastic menu. Balanced service. Nice wine list . Fresh fresh seafood. A riot in your mouth. Great value for money. Top 1 percentile.
Warm, Friendly Service - Fantastic Food. Fishbone Restaurant has been in Stouffville for a few years now and I and my partner and friends eat there often enough that it's starting to feel like home. Having lived in the Markham / Stouffville area for most of our lives, we're always on the lookout for good restaurants - and that means excellent food, attentive (but not pretentious) service, and value for money. Fishbone has all of that and more with an owner who believes in personal service, and servers who remember your likes and dislikes. The food has a Portuguese / Mediterranean flavour with an emphasis on seafood. Finally, a place I can have cataplana outside of Toronto! Even better - the food is consistent and always fresh. Since we have a fussy eater in our group, chef Chris has always been happy to whip up a dish that meets her needs. The wine list is very hard to beat, with many listings from Portugal that cannot be found at the LCBO. Pedro, the owner, always goes out of his way to give us a new and wonderful wine when our only instruction is "surprise us".
I can't recommend Fishbone enough. The food is top quality, consistent, flavourful, the service is polite and conscientious and the value is top notch.
Great Experience :). A friend and I came to Fishbone for our first time to try their Stouffilicious promotion. We came into a restaurant and were almost immediately welcomed by the warm owners. After being seated, the server quickly introduced herself, she was truly outstanding.
We ordered mussels, and steak frites. My friend claimed he hated mussels until he tried it tonight. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the fries were well above your average set up potatoes! Although this was a 40 minute drive from my Toronto home, I will be bringing more friends to their restaurant!
Simply fantastic!. This restaurant is nothing short of exceptional! I have been several times and both the food and service are consistently superb. The atmosphere is cozy and staff is very friendly and attentive. As for the food, it's easy to see that a great deal of care has gone into the menu; there is something for everyone and it's also nice to see the use of local products - everthing tastes so fresh! My favourites have been the flaming chorizo sausage appetizer, and the shrimp ravioli with leeks entree. You can't go wrong with any of the desserts either. Prices are also very reasonable, especially given the quality of food and service. This place is great for any night of the week, and if you're not from the area, it's worth the trip!
Anniversary Dinner. Great night out at the Fishbone Bistro - service was excellent and the food was fantastic - we had the grilled octopus and romaine hearts as appetizers and for the mains - the halibut and the tagliatelle - truly enjoyable meals. I would highly recommend this great little restaurant.
Always great. My wife and I have gone numerous times and sampled much of the menu....great addition to Stouffville, we will be back this weekend!
Great food and friendly service.. My wife and I had dinner at the Fishbone on August 9th, our first time at this location since it changed ownership. Great new decor, comnfortable but contemporary and clean. Stacy welcomed us and made sure we had a nice table. Shortly after, she delivered lemon water and introduced the menu.
We had steamed mussels and squid appetizers. The mussels were excellent but the squid, while nicely flavoured, could have been more tender. Having said that, this is sometimes the risk you take with squid.
Our two entres were the chicken tagliatelle and pork tenderloins with lemon forked potatos. Both dishes were excellent but I particulalrly enjoyed the pork with the hint of peri-peri sauce.
We had an enjoyable chat with Pedro and he certainly seems to be committed to service excellence and great food. We would recommend the Fishbone and will be returning for peri-peri prawns.
Cheers... Neil & Linda
Great Addition to Stouffville !! Food was well prepared and fresh, We had Mussels and the Flaming Chorizo Sausage ...My girlfriend had the Mahi Mahi with avocado and rice salad and I had the Flat Iron Steak, with a mini fry basket...absolutely fantastic presentation and flavors, no room for dessert, way full ! Cool & easy going staff, Nice that we don't have to go downtown for a great dinner. Space is really nice...we'll be back many times !
