When first entering the restaurant, the waiter and hostess were very friendly and welcoming. On top of that I was given the opportunity to customize my food to the exact way I want it, even if it was not in the menu. The staff was 10/10 on point with their service. Nonetheless, the food here is amazing. I have tried countless of sushi restaurants from all over the globe and I can safely say that this is one of the best ones. It surely is in my top 5 sushi restaurants. I honestly do not understand why this restaurant is rated so low, at first I thought I was looking at the wrong resaurant.
Located in the Westin Hotel 2nd level. Convenient if you need dinner and don't want to go out. I had a selection of sushi for a takeout. The sushi was good/very good but not amazing- the (real) crab roll was really delicious. The server tossed the container of sushi crooked into the bag though and some re-assembly was required. I would have this sushi again.
They had two Spanish ladies working as waitress while we were there. We got the more friendly and talkative one, which compensated for the misses on some dishes we ordered. Dee is a big fan of a good soft shell crab, he would look for one whenever he is in a japanese place. They had spider rolls on their menu so as usual Dee asked for possibility of ordering the "spiders" without the rolls. No, the chef can't do. And there is usually a reason for it. The rolls came with not so crispy crab - apparently they were premade and been sitting aside to be served. But still it was better than a few other japanese places we had been in the past which were supposed to be excellent.
Prawn sushi was prawn sushi. Stripe jack sushi was no good - the cut of fish was not chewable.
Best dish of the meal was the Saikyokaki, as advertised on their menu a must try. The fish was just so melted-in-your-mouth tender.
Chicken skewers were good in flavour but could be a bit more grilled to our taste.
Overall, as mentioned, hit and misses, with a lovely Spanish waitress.
We just had the lunch box and it was amazing. Fresh wild salmon and tuna sashimi, delicious chicken and the best black Alaskan cod that I have ever had. Since this is a review my only complaint would be it did take longer than I would have like for our food to arrive.
Our second time at the restaurant. Owners r alway friendly and welcoming. Restaurant is clean and reminds me of sushi places in Japan. Had $19 three course dinner. Lots of food. We were too full to have any desert. Three course consists of 1.gomaae spinach, sunomono, grilled black cod(my fav), 2. Sushi(tako, amaebi, scallop, salmon, tuna, tuna rolls), 3. Assorted tempura(prawns, carrots, sweet potato, kobocha pumpkin). We both think the seaweed nori used for sushi has a nice fragrance/taste. Must be a quality nori they use. If u r looking for a japanese restaurant with quiet atmosphere, kaze is the right place!
