Best fries in town, in my opinion. Take-out only, as they have no seating area.
Small or large, they do an excellent job piling it on really tall!
If you are like my friend and prefer Crispy fries, they mostly come out that way.
If you are like me and prefer soft fries, order the fish n chips and the fish on top of the fries makes them perfectly soft and are the most wonderful fries I've ever HAD.
WARNING, if you prefer to have fish n chips with your fries on the crispy side, make sure to ask that they package the fish separately or else the steam from the fish WILL soften your fries and make them delightfully limp, which is my preference but not everyone's.
They also do an identical Beyond Meat burger (exactly like at A&W, only 50 cents cheaper).
The special fries sauce they have is pretty good. I just wish they didn't charge for extra mayonnaise. Makes them seem kinda stingy.
A blast from the past, the minute you walk in, full on retro vibes. This is a time capsule of the past and amazing that there are still dinners like this out here, especially in KW. The food is rustic, its served fast, and a go to location if you want fish and chips. It's not the same Sonny's that served fresh food each order but, the food is still great with a legacy no other shop in KW could match.
This was a nostalgic visit for me having grown up in Waterloo in the 60s and 70s. Yes, this place has been around that long! Fries ans onion rings did not disappoint. The burger was good also.
Shout out to the crew at Sonny's, place was hopping, and the team was banging out orders like champs. and it still tastes freaking great. Kudos on the hard work today. Ive been a patron since my dad took me there staring in the 70s...never change. its appreciated. Thanks!
