Review Szechuan City Restaurant & Buffet - Victoria

Went with a group of 5 guys for lunch on a Saturday. Ordered combo for 6a and added a few items. We were hoping for the buffet but that's only on Saturdays for dinner. BUT we had more than enough food and cheaper. Food was super fresh and tasted delicious! Will be back to try Buffett.

All of my Family and Friends Absolutely love the Buffet here! The original owners know how to keep customers very happy and keep us coming back. The Quality, Service, and Prices were all perfect. Hope the new owners see this too, so we can keep coming back.

** This business is on Burnside Rd., East , I wanted to order from this restaurant to see if everybody was right… I had heard from several people that the Buffet had reopened, and it looked super. I was ordering through skip so I looked through the menu and found combo number four for 1 which was basically sweet-and-sour pork, house chow mein, and almond chicken since, I couldn’t find any option to switch from pork to chicken balls on the skip app so I called the restaurant. The lady I spoke to was so sweet and patient and she explained to me that they would send me a charge for additional 4- to upgrade through Skip and we parted ways, and after about 20 minutes saw that the skip driver was going to the restaurant but I have yet to receive the charge from the restaurant. so I called again and told them I hadn’t received that charge yet. She said Skip had changed the policy so that the restaurant couldn’t do that anymore but this time, she said, it was on the house for the upgrade. This is my new favourite restaurant to go to when I’m craving Chinese food HOWEVER THE NEW OWNERS TAKE POSSESSION OCTOBER 1, 2023. The house chow mein was spectacular. The almond chicken was great and the sweet-and-sour chicken balls just cut like butter it was really good and delicious. I just can’t wait to re-order it again or go to the restaurant for a dine in experience . I asked the Owner if they were leaving the recipes with the new owners, and she laughed… This just recently found a jewel of a restaurant may end up, not carrying forward with the delicious food and the big portions

THIS PLACE WAS AMAZING!!! I went here w/ my parents+siblings and as soon as we came in a nice lady welcomed us. She wasn't like other ppl who would've just recommended the most expensive thing, she actually helped us get the most cost effective and filling menu items, keeping our appetite and budget in mind. She kept us feeling happy and welcome, the food was delicious and obviously freshly made(!!!) and all in all, it was a cheap yet amazing experience. 100/10 experience. If you're looking for a sign to go here, this is it!

Overall experience was good. 1. Customer service was very good. 2. Restaurant is medium size 3. Service is good 4. Crowded during dinner buffet 5. The buffet options are amazing but during the very busy time, a lot of them were empty. They did their best to try to refill them. 6. I didn't see soft drink options. Some section of the machine were out of order. Not sure when they will get that fixed. 7. Very limited Dessert options and were empty during busy time. The buffet dishes were very delicious. There is a balance of food options 1. Few deep fried options 2. Few vegetable options 3. Two soup options 4. Mussels dish 5. Few seafood options 6. Fried Noodle and Fried Rice available I would come back again for the buffet. Maybe not during a very busy time. Edit Dessert options 1. Two types of Jellies are available 2. A few selections of fruits are available. - They fixed the soft drink machine. However, the soft drink options are not clearly labeled.

Great place to get some Asian food I didn’t stay for the buffet which I feel like is the most popular option, but I did get some ginger beef to go and the portion was so large that I ended up having two meals out of it. Well worth it for the $15 or so that I paid for it Will definitely come again if I’m ever in the area

My parents bring our family here. It's our favourite buffet in Victoria. It's best to call ahead to reserve a table. I ate two big plates, wonton soup, coffee and pop. I'll go back again, for sure.

Great Chinese buffet all kinds of meat and veggies. Fish, shrimp and shellfish as well. Two soups, fried rice and noodles. I liked the Jasmine tea staying hot in the coffee urn. Good service at our table. Lots of food to choose from. Brownies, Rice Crispie squares, Mango and other jellies for dessert, and pineapple chunks. Great value.

It was a pretty nice experience. I went there with my friends and the staff were amazing and treated us very well. The food was delicious and I just pay 22 dollars ”per person” ( I think It was not expensive compared to what we get). The only thing to improve is that they need AC during the summer in their restaurant because it was hot. I absolutely recommend it to ya to try it with your friends and families.

We wanted a traditional “greasy spoon” buffet and thought this would be it. We were genuinely surprised at the overall quality and taste, the heightened precautions towards buffet health and safety and the ultra friendliness of the staff. We just really enjoyed it.

We ordered from skip. The driver stole our food which was not cheap (trust me, you get what you pay for because the food is amazing) By time skip got it figured out, we could not reorder as the restaurant was no longer available on skip. We were not in the delivery zone, I had no vehicle at the time and the refund was in skip credits. The actual restaurant (NOT SKIP) went above and beyond for us. They offered to deliver to us even though we were not in their delivery zone. Not only is the food incredible, the staff are too! Go whenever you can...yummm....almond breaded chicken and the ginger fried beef 🤤🤤🤤 SO good!

I tried their dinner buffet last night and it was very mediocre. I'd give it 3/5 stars. The food was a little bit bland and the selection was fairly run of the mill. However, the food I have ordered off their regular menu for takeout has been much, much better. I'd give it 4.25/5 stars. My recommendation is to skip the buffet and try ordering from the regular menu instead.

Pretty decent food but not as good as it used To be. no crunchy green beans. And it's really quite expensive. For what you get 4 quality of food. The staff were a little stand offish and it seemed cold and uninviting. This used to be our favorite place to go for family dinners.

Love this place! The food is really fresh! The people who work there always remember us and they are super nice... they keep topping on the dishes that are most wanted with fresh and just cooked servings...

No buffet anymore during the week, but the lady there made it totally worth it: she advised us on what to order to make it cheaper (3 dinners vs/ 4 individual meals which was more than we could eat) and even offered an extra spring roll since we were 4. Lovely lady. Food was excellent and very affordable.

Quaint and cozy spot. Great lunch and efficient service. Food is great and price reasonable.

The food isn't why I come here... it's a Chinese food buffet, decent for what it is but not exceptional. What is exceptional is the service! Buffet restaurants are not usually known for their service but this place is different everyone is so inviting and engaging, nothing is too much trouble! If something is running low at the buffet they are right on it, even if it is close to closing time. Really awesome :)

We really like this place, been there couple times already for lunch buffets recently in the last few months. $15/person for a lunch buffet is a reasonable price in town. The food selection is great. You have to try its deep fried squid, oh mine, better than the one from Golden City (downtown) with a much less price. The squid is very tender. The deep fried spare rib is awesome! You can taste the ingredients are fresh, and the chefs don't use much artificial add-ons to the dishes, not like the kitchen at Fairway@Quadra. The waitresses there are friendly. After "Raymond" has changed hands many years ago, I've lost my favourite buffet spot in town, until I found Szechuan City Buffet.

First time visit to this buffet off the recommendation of fellow Zomato reviewers. The food was good, superior to the other buffet Raymond's that we have tried once.<br/>The problem came with the bill which was $59.60 give or take a few cents for two adults and two children. I can see this charge for a cleaner operation not blasting trashy commercial radio through the dirty ceiling speakers so it seemed a bit exorbitant, but I bit the bullet and handed over a fistful of $20's. When I got to the car my waiting partner agreed that I had overpaid and returned to dispute the bill. It turns out that the rude hostess accused my of lying about he ages of our two children 9 and 10 several times, telling my partner that I indicated that my son was 13. Not sure why I would lie about the age of a child so I could pay extra. She also said my son had also ID'd himself as 13. Very strange, but being accused of lying for he sake of charging me extra? Pretty small-minded and petty. I guess that's why prices aren't posted anywhere obvious and trust is too much to ask from an establishment for a simple lunch buffet.<br/>We won't be returning on the basis that I was ripped off and then accused by the house of lying. Way too defensive and rude when confronted, diners you might even want to keep your eyes on your billfold. The hostess might try to snag a few extra bucks out of it if you aren't careful. Terrible experience.

Amazing Gem. I don't know what's better, the food or the service! The food is always fresh and delicious, and take out is quick. The service is superb, if you're looking for a good family feel, this is the place. I have yet to be disappointed.

Best Meal in Victoria!. If you are looking for a delicious meal, perfectly prepared, very clean premises, and excellent service...this is the place! <br/><br/>I have only discovered this gem in the past few months and have to admit I am now addicted! <br/><br/>Please try the Szechuan City Buffet on the corner of Burnside and Harriet in Victoria (not far from Tillicum Mall or Uptown). <br/><br/>You will not be disappointed!

Good food, friendly staff.. Food is always good and fresh, service good too. Lots of deep fried goodness, sweet n sour pork is great, wonton soup is perfect. Lots of selection. If you want a real good, greasy, delicious feast of chinese food, this is the place to go. Best buffet in Victoria!

Went for dinner here last night. Good, flavourful, and not greasy! We will be back! The service was amazing and super friendly too.

Thumbs up. The secret of this place is showing up right when they open for lunch or dinner time...Guarenteed fresh,hot and satisfaction.Then you don't run into the problem of dried out gummy food and sometimes waiting for them to bring out more food,usually your favorite ones..lol...This usually happens when it's getting closer to switch over from lunch to dinner and then getting closer to dinner closing....If you have made this mistake like i have before then you know reality sets in....So remember show up early and have a wonderful experience at the Szechuan City Buffet.

Fresh amazing chinese food. I always drove by the place and noticed the parking lot was usually full with cars. This to me was a sign the food had to be delicious and I am so thankful I made the decision to give the restaurant a chance. Everything was fresh and delicious! I tried a bit of everything from the Squid, wontons, chow mein and the spring rolls! If your contemplating whether or not to give this restaurant a chance, I say go for it! It will be the best decision you will ever make and you won't go to any other chinese restaurant in Victoria.

Dinner review terrible. Wonton soup a millions times too salty, not clean, you can see the windows as you are walking in has never been cleaned?? too greasy, will never go back

Best chinese food I've ever had!. I've been to a few chinese buffets in Victoria; however, Szechuan City is absolutely by far my favourite. The waitresses were very friendly and they were very quick to take the plates away from the table once I was finished. They had a variety of chinese dishes including shanghai noodles, salt & pepper squid, chicken wings and there delicious dumplings served during lunch. <br/><br/>The next week I took a few friends out for dinner at Szechuan City and it was exactly the same great service and delicious food. Unfortunately they don't serve the dumplings during dinner but the shrimp and honey garlic ribs more than made up for it. Squid is very easy to overcook; however, the chefs at Szechuan City always get it perfectly right. I'll definitely be coming back to Szechuan City! It's my new go to place for chinese food!

Not impressed. I have been to this place a few times, food and service was always good. Until my last visit! Place was to open at 430pm, which came and went without opening. I could see the staff hiding in the back of the restaurant ignoring those of us that were standing at the door. I will never go back.

Enjoyable Expierience. Szechuan City has good food splattered on their menu with a wide variety of classic Chinese cuisine dishes along with an interesting combination of modern well-known desserts. A lot of the dishes range from spicy to tangy, sweet and sour. One of the most commonly ordered dishes is the Sweet and Sour Pork, this dish is my all time favourite. An I'm sure many others would agree with me. It was a good experience.

Not good. Small selection. Poor quality.

Since I live only one block from this restautant and it is by far the closest restaurant to me, I like to be able to gohere. Since the remodelding after it was closed for a couple of months, the place has been disappointing. I went again tonight because i
