I'm a bit of a sushi nut so when I heard about this place I was really excited. I had a good selection of nigiri from the menu and I can say that the fish quality is the best in Victoria...definitely pricey so it won't be my regular, but I will be back for sure. The chef is a real character and clearly passionate about his work.
We sat at the sushi bar and rather than ordering from the menu, asked Chef Shingo to create our meal. The quality, creativity, and service is outstanding!! We both felt like we went on a trip around the world! Easily the best sushi in Victoria!! We will be back many times over!! THANK YOU!! XO
A chef change over took place since my last visit. The place continues to be welcomed by locals during lunch hours on a busy Friday.
We have made reservation made for a group of three. Waitress is attentive on our dinning progress and communicates with other staff.
Things are made fresh so it could take a bit of time. I find their chicken karaage over fried and large pieces are tough to chew on. Agedashi tofu is lightly fried but soaked sitting in too much sauce. Salmon and yellowtail sashimi are fresh and outstandingly sliced.
Ice cream dessert is on the pricy end for one scoop.
Will return for another frieds meet up.
We ordered Unakyu Maki (2), Caterpillar Roll, Wild Salmon Nigiri’s, Chicken Teriyaki Don. Everything was 10/10. Beautiful flavours. Service was not bad, but not great - just meh. If service was better we’d leave a better tip.
Ordered on Doordash because it was the highest rated Japanese restaurant and it served just that! Gyozas were crisp and soft on the inside, the tempura roll was absolutely delicious. Especially for being served a while after being made. Happily surprised, really impressed!! Looking forward to trying this restaurant in person!!
Incredible sushi experience. My partner said “this is the best yam tempura roll I’ve ever had in my life” after he commented that I was ordering boring sushi. The aesthetics are just as good as the food. Nice patio setting in what feels like an outdoor mall. Service was prompt and friendly. Price was more expensive than usual but when the food arrives you understand why.
Fudo is the cutest little restaurant in Broadmead Village. There is limited seating indoors so if you have a group of more than 4 people I'd call ahead and make a reservation.
I've been a few times and the staff is friendly and the restaurant is always clean.
Food is always fresh and delicious. I love the karaage, it's crispy and moist. The sushi is fairly priced and the rice is flavoured perfectly for sushi, a lot of flavour. My favourite roll is the Mango Delight, it is a fusion roll so it's not traditional at all, but the Citron Tobiko is so fun and the other ingredients jive well together.
Highly recommend dining here!
We first went to another restaurant, two doors down from Fudo, see my previous review of that place...
We then walked into Fudo, immediately greeted by a hostess with a smile on her face, and within minutes, another one showed up and asked how we were doing and if she could bring us anything, while we're going through the menu.
Tea arrived, the order was taken, the food was served, and we received "service", the main reason for going to a restaurant, service.
Just for the great service, they deserve five stars.
Clean, friendly, and good food with reasonable prices.
We will definitely visit again, next time in the area.
Thank you, Fudo!
Always great food but I did not know I had to specify individual take out portions for their sushi rolls. I thought they shorted me again but after phoning they said they combined 2 different sushi rolls on one take out plate. I wanted them on their own plates but they said I had to specify that. No one told me that when I ordered.
I can’t explain how good this place was. They used fresh ingredients out from the sea port. Meaning that fish and seafoods were not a frozen one. It was harvested and delivered to the restaurants directly. It is pricy though but i was not disappointed. Foods fish were great. Sushi was huge!!!!
The taste was far better than i had from many places
The staff are friendly. The food was delicious and some of the best japanese food I've had in awhile. The food was well seasoned and delicious. The quality of the ingredients was excellent. The ambiance was nice and well appointed.
We met for lunch. Our friend recommended the Bento box but warned it is alot of food. She was right. The order came with a very tasty miso soup.
