Just visiting the Island from a freezing cold Edmonton, AB and today is my last day here before heading east again. I googled 'best soup and sandwiches near me' and this is what came up so I thought I'd give it a try. I expected a small 'mom and pop' type place and that's what I got. Great homemade bread, great homemade soups, great sandwich, great staff. What threw me for a loop was the Military memorabilia when I walked inside. As a Veteran, it's awesome to see support for the troops, but in the case of this place, I knew people who sailed on a number of the ships and submarines represented here and that choked me up. The only thing I couldn't find was the plaque representing my ship though, unless it was hiding; HMCS Provider. You have a great place here, I would definitely recommend it to anyone, and should I be back on the Island in the future, I'll come again. Thank you

I ordered the Reuben sandwich and it's one of the best I've ever had. The portions are large and worth every penny.

Great clam chowder. Friendly Staff. Great sandwich in a nice clean restaurant. Only thing to mention is the one girl behind the counter (glasses) talks very loud and too much, in that the customers can hear every word she says while enjoying their meal.

Nice rotating selection of soups. Had the clam chowder and French onion and the grilled Reuben sandwich. It was really really good. Lunch counter type service. Nice clean dining area and very fast service. Various types of sandwiches available. A glass of water would have been nice to have available butotherwise it was perfect for a light lunch. Couldn't finish the sandwich and it still awesome having it a few hours later. Will definitely go back and try other soups and sandwiches.

Great soup and sandwich with lots of varieties. All options seem to be mostly non-vegetarian, but the sandwiches are healthy, homemade, full of stuff, and lovely :) the soups are also pretty hardy- be warned a soup and salad combination is actually a ton of food here! Super helpful staff, great selections, and overall a nice chill atmosphere.

If you having a hard time getting up in the morning or having a bad day, come here. The food will give you the reason life isn’t that bad and there is good in the world. The soups are heart warming and the sandwiches are moral boosters to the soul. The staff are always friendly and full of kindness so the rest of your day can be filled with sunshine. Seriously the best place to get soups and sangy’s on the island.

I wish I had come here sooner! I've lived here for a year, and always contemplated going, but never did. Boy, did I miss out!! This place is AMAZING!!! They bake all their own breads, there are 5 to choose from! The roast their own turkey and beef right there as well! Toppings are fresh, and plentiful, and every sandwich is made beautifully!! Every day they have three soups to choose from, and I believe the lady told me on Fridays, they have seven different homemade soups!! If you order soup, I don't recommend getting a sandwich as well, as you get a huge chunk of buttered bread with it!! The staff are super friendly as well!! Everything is clean. It can get quite the line up at the lunch hour, but all good things come with patience!!

I have never been disappointed here, The staff are very friendly and make you feel welcome every time, The soups and sandwiches are great (obviously made with care ) and there breakfast sandwich is second to none, what a hidden gem, keep it up this is what the world needs

Some of the best homemade soups in town. The size of bread they give you is enormous. The cheese pie will clog your arteries!! It's to die for!!

The sandwiches and soups are delightful. The turkey was extremely dry unfortunately. It's expensive, though, which I think is the only downside.

Went to Dads today for brunch with my wife. Place was very unassuming and I was totally impressed with the staff and service. Food was excellent too! I had soup that was home made from scratch and filling. Very delicious! My wife really enjoyed her breakfast burrito. Additionally the grilled ham and cheese was perfect! Makes their own bread and prices are good for portion size! I came from downtown to eat here and would gladly return! Loved it thanks so much

These magnificent artisans create the greatest culinary phenomenon you could hope to encounter. From the most epic, soft, HUGE sourdough to the perfectly seasoned, fresh, flavorful ingredients - including the amazing jeddar cheese - you'll never encounter a better sandwich. Red barn is like Dad's dimwitted but lovable cousin in comparison. Ordering a turkey club and a tuna salad sandwich from this place is often the highlight of my week - and thank god they are on Skip.

Always a great place to come and enjoy a meal, big or small. The food is tasty with generous portions. Lots of sandwiches to choose from and fresh soups change every day. The bread is fresh baked too with several different options. Lunch is their specialty. The staff are friendly and genuine. This is a local gem and the staff know most of their clients by name. The proprietor is always happy to see you. As the group they are always smiling and having fun behind the counter.

Great diner, busy but efficient lunch time service. I had tasty cream of broccoli soup and an egg salad sandwich.

We had been meaning to try this place since moving to the neighbourhood, and finally got the opportunity to do so. We were met with amazing customer service. The staff were personable and genuine. The prices were incredibly reasonable. The food was delicious and the soups were not overly salted, as I often find restaurant soups to be. I am still dreaming of the cream of tomato soup. We will most definitely be back!

I've just finished lunch .. never been here before .. one of the best lunches I've had in 20 years .. the mac and cheese is exactly how my mom makes it (don't tell her) and I love the homemade bread for the sandwiches .. and best of all, not only was your staff fast, but also so friendly, it shows that they all like their jobs :)

Would highly recommend to friends and family. Everything was made with care and I got a very large portion for breakfast that I couldn't even finish! The staff make you feel right at home and I would certainly say this was the best breakfast that I've had in a long time. I may even show up in my jammies next time! :)

Just had grilled chicken breast on focaccia bread for dinner it was delicious. New hours have this place open until 8 pm with a new dinner menu!

In my opinion this is the best home made style lunch option in the Westshore and even Greater Victoria. Great portion sized sandwiches and the soups are hearty and made from scratch!

I dropped in to the Colwood Dad's sandwich place the other day. I ordered two sandwiches took them home and my wife and I had what I consider the best sandwich I have ever eaten. The only thing better were those two lovely ladies in the sandwich store. Great personalities and a great asset to the eatery. It was so good I went back again today to tell them and to order again. They made me feel welcome and made me feel great. Just finished my sandwich and decided to make this comment. Thanks for a great meal!

Dropped in for quick lunch today after favourable recommendations. Sadly disappointed. Soups overly salty, both the beef broth and curry chicken. Bread heels very dried out, not fresh at all. Over priced and under whelmed. Could do with a good cleaning too, especially at the prep area. After washing soup bowls please keep your hands or fingers out of the inside as you return them to the stock shelf.

I just had my first East Coast Donair from Dad’s. It was AWESOME! A taste from home! This will become a habit. Spread the word.

Incredible soups and sandwich's all fresh baked homemade breads and soups fresh deli meats, Today I had the chicken stew with huge chunks of chicken. People were lined up out the door for his famous Mac and cheese I couldn't believe how many people were there just for the Mac and cheese not a fan of it myself but apparently its good. But what I had was the best I ever had for chicken stew...Sorry Mom but its really good.

I love the sandwiches...have too say, I thought $9.75 was a heafty price! Now they are $10.75 for the Turkey Club! And not as full with veggies and Turkey:) I now have too revaluate weather it's worth it! Man I hate that!

I had the veggie sandwich on multigrain, and it was fantastic! The bread was fresh and soft, and I was impressed by the variety of toppings to choose from. I'm never going back to Subway!

The freshly baked bread makes the sandwich better than anywhere else in the neighbourhood in my opinion. <br/>This new location on corner of Goldstream/Jacklin is larger than the previous one in Colwood. <br/>Customize your sandwich fixings at the deli counter and eat in or grab n go for a picnic at Langford Lake. The place can get busy at lunch rush. <br/>Choose from traditional sandwich, wrap or grilled panini. Bread is soft and delicious, and doesn't need to be toasted it's that good. Even the roast beef and turkey are oven roasted in their kitchen. <br/>They are known for their scratch-made soups offering up 3 daily options (they have a monthly menu board so you know what's coming). Don't forget the cookies - they are classically delicious and also baked fresh daily. <br/>They used to do a really good traditional breakfast menu on Sundays until 2pm. More tasty comfort food like eggs benny, omelettes, pancakes, waffles... (But I can understand if they need a day off!)<br/>The owner, John, is a retired navy cook who is passionate about dishing out satisfying homemade comfort food (he's in the back kitchen every morning at 6am prepping for the day) <br/>Nice to support local family community-minded business, especially in Langford.<br/>Closed on Sundays and early-ish during week so enjoy for lunch or early dinner.

Nothing bad about this place at all. But it's just a sandwich shop? Never understood how 'sandwich only' shops survive. Especially since Red Barn Market has the best sandwich on the south island.

I'm not going to say this place is bad but it's just not for me. Tastier and cheaper alternatives for wraps and sandwiches nearby would be market on millstream deli or red barn market which blows this place out of the water for quality wraps sandwiches. I must admit dad's has the best soup around though.<br/><br/>I decided to give them another shot since I was in the area and wanted something simple and quick. I ordered a grilled ham and cheese which came out to a whopping 8.75 just for the sandwich with no side. I asked the girl making it twice to put onion on it. I took this sandwich to go and was disappointed that my 8 dollar and 75 sandwich wasn't even made to my liking. I was the only person in the shop so why couldn't a little more care be put in?

Their Thai curry chicken soup on monthly menu is amazing and i love their multi grain bread.Just wished they had more veggie options and they were clearly marked as veggie in their menu posted on their website

Fantastic home style soups and sandwiches! The decor is very simple and plain but we don't go for the ambiance we come for the food. Everything is made there fresh from scratch. It is a little more on the expensive side, but that's because they are using quality ingredients and not the pre packaged processed stuff.<br/>Defiantly the best soups and sandwich I've found in a long time always a delicious experience!

Meh. Okay food but $16 for a cup of soup and a sandwich is way too much. Food taste mediocre and dingy eating area. Won't be back for seconds...

Way too expensive for what it is.. Bad roast beef..... Over priced. I will never go back. No wonder it's always empty inside. Poor quality not very friendly staff.

Meh..... Had the roast beef sandwich and cream of broccoli soup, they were alright but for the 15$ price tag its definitely not the most affordable lunch

Total disappointment. I went for the first time today and I'm only half way through my sandwich. It's gross. Turkey with shredded lettuce not a nice leaf of green lettuce and NO cheese?!! For $8 you get bread, meat a dressing and ONE vegetable. No Havarti or swiss or cheddar cheese. What's with the bulk shredded lettuce if I wanted that I'd go to subway. Total price for this sad looking turkey sandwhich and chicken noodle soup $13 For a sandwich joint I'm totally disappointed and will not go back.

Hands down best soup and sandwiches is made here. Always very clean and polite staff. Soups homemade every day. I have never been disappointed in the food or service. Great work!!!

Best place in town. If you want a delicious soup and generous meat sandwich this is the place to go. Everything is fresh made in house, fresh bread, real roast beef, real sliced turkey breast. None of that processed junk you get at other sandwich places. If you arrive for lunch and it's lined up out the door, stick around. It's well worth the wait I assure you.

Your containers. Great soups but it is a shame they are still served in styrofoam containers that cause cancer and are very bad for our environment.

Best roast beef dip sandwich. Being a big meat eater, I wanted to try the beef dip from Dad's. I was blown away with the quality and flavor of the meat. It was stacked with meat. I was asked if I wanted to try the Monterey Jack and I said sure. Boy was I ever glad I did. It was, without doubt, my best lunch experience ever !

The best soups and sandwiches on the island. I have tried almost every soup here and when I get asked what my favourite is, I end up rattling off several answers. The service is great and I always leave very pleased. Recommend it for anyone and everyone

My wife and I stopped in for the first time, and were underwhelmed. The soup was OK but tasted like it could have come from a can. The chicken salad sandwich was good, but we didn't like the fact that the server did not wear gloves or wash their hands before handling the bread and filling . DH

Soup is so good. If you are looking for great homemade soups and sangy's, you should really check out Dad's. Good amount of meat on your sandwich with lots of topping choices. For me, the soups are my favourite and hope you get a chance to try them too!

Despite my imediate and unresounding hatred of any business that uses "Comic Sans" font for their signage ( that font just screams amature hour), we decided to give Dad's a try. Not a great decore with old and seemingly out of place booths and a front desk where if there are already people ordering, one is not sure at which end they should line up at. Layout aside, service was friendly and prompt. We orderd a ham & cheese, chicken salad and egg salad sandwiches. Breads were freshly made and fantastic!! Generous amount of meat and toppings. Very tasty sandwiches and we all enjoyed them. Price was reasonable at $25 for 3 sandwiches snd 2 drinks. Did not get to try the soups but will give them a go next time. Being a bit tucked away and with lots of competition in the immediate area ( Subway, Tim Hortons, Wendy's, and a Chinese food place right next door) I think Dad's needs to step up its overall presentation of itself. However good, fresh food and friendly staff will have our family back for more.

Simply put, best soup and sangy on the island! Fresh par baked bread, fresh toppings and loaded with meat! There is no comparison to dads!

No soup or sangy's. I came to your restaurant today and the door was not locked. I walked inside and the person at the counter told me the restaurant was closed. My comment is, maybe you should close and lock the door if you aren't selling anything or if the restaurant should be closed. This is poor customer service. Very poor.

Great soups and sandwiches. I eat here on a regular basis, for lunch. <br/>They provide a monthly calendar listing the soups of the day, that you can take home, to ensure you don't miss your favorites. Crunchy crusted breads, wraps, serves breakfast, and lunch. Soups: usually 3 different ones on each day. GREAT soups. They also have a few salads, pre-made. Coffee, muffins, cookies, and canned soda pop and water.<br/>Great service, friendly, and quick. Always can rely on having a great sandwich at this place, made-to-order.<br/><br/>Added comments Jan 2012<br/><br/>Dad's S&S has moved to a new location just down the road from the previous location. I guess it will take a bit of time to get accustomed to the new spot, for me. It does not seem to have the same vibe as the previous location, but maybe when we warm up a little here it will make the difference. The sandwiches and soup are still delicious as ever, but the place feels a little 'cold' inside. A little decorating might fix that little issue though. Regardless of how the place looks, the sandwiches and soup still remain a tasty lunch for me.
