So I don't write reviews, pretty much ever. Unless you really pissed me off, and then I think it was maybe once.
With that said, my wife and 4yo daughter just had dinner here.
Fried tofu
Chicken satay
Coconut rice
Ribs
Assam fish
The satay and the fish were for our daughter, who eats like a 4yo. Hit or miss on most everything. She was in a good mood today and ate everything.
The misses and I shared everything else, and tasted the rice and satay also.
So, the rice. It's rice, but elevated to holy shit! I know it's just rice right? Nope! The amount of coconut flavor was nothing like I've ever eaten before other than eating a coconut. Seriously good rice. This is the first time I have ever raved about rice.
Fried tofu was quite good, but it wasn't the rice.
The ribs were also quite nice. They came out on a hot iron plate and the sauce they were drenched in was delicious. Mind you, while we all enjoyed them, and I would recommend them, I wouldn't get them again simply due to being able to make my own.
And finally the Assam fish. It was a breaded and fried white fish of unknown variety. Lightly breaded as well as lightly fried. This came in a fairly standard Assam sauce. Sweet with a fair bit of lime leaf flavor. Now it wasn't out of this world, but it is definitely something I would get again.
I have eaten a lot of different kinds if food in my life and I'd like to say I'm an adventurous diner. My wife also, so if you are into white bread Chinese food, you need to open up and try this place. It's nothing off the wall, but the flavors are wonderfully developed and just different enough to beat out the competition, and as far as I have found, the only competition they may have for quality and flavor is the Fan Tan Cafe.
So, the room is standard, the service we received was better than most asain restaurants we've been to, but we also realize that they do things their way. It's part if the experience in my belief. If you want to have silver spoon service go elsewhere. You order food, they give it to you. When you are done, you pay and leave. Simple and efficient. If you are a high maintenance diner, stay home. Forever.
We will go back, and I will tell people about them.
Great food and staff.
Pius the owner and Chef is first class guy.
I’ll be back.
The restaurant we planned to go to were about to close for the night so we went to Tropical Island. We got there after a short drive. From the outside the place looked small but it is actually bigger inside.
The menu has lot of choices. We had the coconut slush to start with. Ordered the Taiwanese beef noodle, the Tropical Island friend rice which had Chinese sausage, shrimp and chicken. Both were quite tasty. My wife had the mixed veggies and the 3 kind of mushroom plate.
We very much enjoyed the food. Nice flavours, decent portions. Our server was very kind and attentive. Other patrons seem to liked their meals as well.
The highlight of this dinner was definitely the beef ribs. Cooked fresh, sizzling on the plate, tender and loved the sauce over the ribs! 🤤
The roti with dipping sauce and the chowmein were also quite good. The food took a bit of time to come out but they did offer us some very tasty kettle corn while we were waiting. Servers were all friendly and polite. I would return especially for the beef ribs!
In a word... Amazing!
I brought my wife and son here for our fifth anniversary. They provide a cozy, inviting atmosphere that relaxes and inspires.
We started out with the Roti Canai and Popcorn Chicken. Excellent starters for a fine meal.
We then proceeded to indulge with the Gu Loo Pork, Seafood Teppan, and Mixed Mushroom Platter. Wonderful.
The food and service were excellent. I will definitely be back and will let others know as well, which is easily done as I work in the hospitality industry.
Thank you so much Tropical Island Restaurant for helping to make this a meaningful and memorable anniversary.
The BEST South East Asian cuisine in the town and the Pha Thai is my favorite. We had a very good dining experience in this little gem. I'm very pleased with the quality of food and the amazing services. The staff and the owner are very friendly and approachable.
Many thanks for the delicious food and wonderful service, we can't wait to visit the Tropical Island restaurant again next week. ☺️.
The flavours were really good. Chicken wings were juicy and not overly salted. Pineapple fried rice was really flavourful. Good sized portions. I would definitely recommend to visit!
Small and neat restaurant with few tables. Furniture reminds anyone an authentic countryside resto. Ambiance is good. Ample parking.
Service is good.
Food is must try, quality is good for the price. Spice level was customized as per our needs
This place is amazing! The owners are very nice, the menu is full of amazing food, and there are so many GF options, even for things like popcorn chicken and fried mushrooms (so amazingly delicious - I got both and they were so good). This one of the best restaurants I have been to in a while. It is a new favorite!!
So far the best meal Ive had all year! Food was so delicious, an exposion of taste in every bite. Service was friendly and prompt. This small cuisine of asian flavors had lots of menu choices. Pinapple fried rice is a must have! I highly recommend dine in or take out!
Parking lot was small. Staff was very friendly and food was excellent. Would go back next time we're in Victoria.
Worth the visit. First time for me; not in my local. Nice unique menu. Enjoyed our selections. Will be back with others next time.
Hi, back again. Hopeful for a repeat performance.
