Easily the best Japanese restaurant in Victoria. The chef is great The quality of the ingredients (seriously the rice!) and the freshness of the seafood makes every dish is impeccable... and they have a great selection of sake.

The Omakase is an incredible experience. Loved the interaction with the chef and the care he puts into describing every dish. He is clearly passionate about the food he serves and it pays off. Fresh, flavourful and filling.

Splurged and had the lobster shoyu ramen. It was absolutely well-worth it. And thanks to the staff too for their hospitality and the complimentary sushi after they saw I had waited for a while for my order. Will definitely return the next time I am in Victoria.

THE go-to sushi spot in Victoria, BC. Shingo is the best sushi artist around! A real treat to eat here every time. The sushi is always fresh, beautifully and creatively plated, delicious and healthy. Try to get a seat at the bar to watch Shingo up close!

From Vancouver, have had sushi prepared by the best of the best, have also dined at Nobu in LA and Koi in NYC. Shingo is on par with these. I'm in sushi heaven once again...this is sushi and sashimi perfection!

In Victoria, BC, there is an unspeakable abundance of sushi and other Japanese food. This is a veritable Osaka of Canada. This place, Omakase Izakaya, surprised us - staying clear of standard greatest hits and offering well considered and imaginative choices. Selection of tuna is impressive but the pride of the place, lobster as an ingredient, is completely fabulous. We noted gently seared leeks that taste like mushroom infused onions - magic.

What a happy accident coming across Omakase during my very quick four day trip to Victoria. Last night I had the extreme good fortune to have Chef Shingo's Omakase dinner. What an experience. The courses, beyond being so full of flavours, layers, and textures, are also absolutely stunning works of art. I don't think I will find another Japanese restaurant of this calibre again anytime soon. Which means I will have to come back to Victoria. The tuna tataki is spectacular! The restaurant is small but as soon as you walk in the place erupts in greeting, making you feel welcome. The staff are great, friendly and accommodating. I sat at the bar to learn about what each course was and also had the pleasure of sitting next to two regular customers who made the evening and experience even nicer. Thank you again Chef Shingo and staff. I will be back (or at least send others your way when I hear anyone is going to Victoria). Arigatou gozaimasu. 有難う 御座います.

Shingo took great care of me during my quick stop for lunch. Sit at the bar and get the combo and let him do his thing. Will be back.

It’s a very nice place to hangout with friends. We ordered the happy hour special cocktail for only 6 dollars! Sashimi is fresh and sushi tastes sooooo good! Highly recommend!

This was the first time my husband and I visited Omakase, and I must say it will not be the last. I truly wish that we had started coming here sooner. The service is excellent as the waitresses are prompt, very sweet, and mild mannered. They greet you as soon as you enter the door and when you leave. As soon as you're done eating, they come to take the plates away, and if you order a beer, the instant they are at the table with it they start pouring it for you, so if you prefer drinking from the bottle, tell them quickly! The only downside to the service is that the appetizers were served not together and with our first roll of sushi of our main course. It didn't rush things, it was simply a tad awkward to have edamame, sunomono salad and a roll all at once, but in the land of complaints, that's really small honestly. But the real gem here is the sushi. It was amazing. I cannot sing its praises enough. The Electric Avenue roll melts in your mouth. The texture, and flavour is better than I thought it would be, and the pieces of BBQ eel are the biggest I have had in/on a roll in Victoria. Usually they are thin slices and I'm wishing there was more everywhere else I go, but Omakase really stepped up the game when it comes to giving you a good portion of BBQ eel. It's a shame the Electric Avenue roll is so short though, because I could live off of it. The Mame-ten, a roll with a soy bean wrap, was the first time I've ever had a sushi roll in a soy bean wrap that didn't dry out my mouth and take away from the food. It was fantastic. The sushi chef here is a treasure. Yes, the prices are on the high side, but it was well worth the food, and the service. We will most certainly be coming back.

I enjoy having dishes in this small Japanese restaurant. I'm not big fan of sushi but their sushis are good and popular. My favorite dish es here include deep fried oysters and pan fried dumplings.

Pretty good sushi. There is a great selection of Nigiri, but there isn't much to choose from for rolls.

We had never ordered from here but it was the only place open on a Monday when all of our “go to” sushi restaurants in Victoria were closed. Order was large (ebi tempura; yakitori; salmon and ahi sashimi; steak sauce so we can add it to our home cooked rice; a few rolls; ebi nigiri; edamame and some miso). The meal - while a bit on the expensive side - was stunning. Sashimi portions were top quality and sizeable. Everyone around the table agreed it was one of our best sushi feasts ever. Will definitely try them again to see if it’s consistent or if we just got lucky.

This is, as far as I am concerned, the best sushi (specifically their sushi rolls) in downtown Victoria. It's a bit pricey, but worth what you pay for the food. The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is that for the price, the atmosphere and service at the place could be a bit better. The last time I went the waitress hovered quite a bit and was a touch awkward, but it was understandable because she was new to the job. Sometimes tv's can be a bit loud, and the place isn't the most stylish. Those are all minor things though. Either way though I will be back often for the food!

Nice place, fresh and tasty food. We ordered one special roll to take out. The waitress was sweet and friendly. It was Sunday night, the restaurant was not busy at all, and perhaps because of this, the order was ready in about 10 minutes. The only negative thing for me was a quite sloppy presentation. Rolls, wasabi, and ginger slices were dumped into a container together. But overall it was a good experience.

This is the best Sushi experience I have had in years. The taste is phenomenal. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The sushi chefs are pleasant and make conversation while we wait for our amazing dinner. I would have taken pictures but it looked so good we could not wait.

It's so good!! At first I thought the rolls were on the pricey side, but when they came to the table I was excellently surprised. The have huge pieces of quality fish and actually stay together. The components of each roll are well thought out. Maybe not super traditional, but extra delicious. The service was top notch as well.

I was introduced to this Sushi joint from a coworker. While the 'normal' menu is nothing special, they have some decent happy hour drinks and food. Furthermore, you can ask for 'Omakase' and the Chef will make you what's fresh for the day! Some good fresh Sashimi. Service is a little iffy, but for the most part okay.
