This place is one that you’ll come across every blog and video about Victoria and the hype was real! The line ups in peak seasons can be crazy and so the service can take its own sweet time!
In terms of food, the Halibut fried fish was perfection and every bit worth the money! The chips however were a little limpy.
The seating was super hard to come by because of massive crowds! The condiment/ketchup station was a little messy and needed refill. Just little things like that! So set your expectations on food and you’ll be fine!

We chose to eat at Barb's Fish & Chips in Fisherman's Wharf because we were in the mood for a delectable and decadent fish burger. 🐟🍔🍟The friendly host at the booth welcomed us where we placed our order. We sat down on one of the outdoor benches to enjoy the view of the sea. Great atmosphere. I like how accessible it is. The hosts offered excellent service. The fish burger and fries were our picks. It tasted good. I appreciated how crunchy and crisp it was. It was jam-packed with flavours, all of which were amazing. Highly recommend!😁

This fish and chips place is superb! I will always come by here for dinner whenever I'm in Victoria. Love the fish and chips, as well as their seafood chowder! Service was really fast too. The only issue is that it's always crowded and it might be hard to find seats. But it's still worth the wait!

This has been one of my favourite spot for fried oysters and Halibut for many many years. Quality has dropped versus 30 years ago, but the place is still fully packed during the summer season. I will still go to this place, however with less enthusiasm as before.

Great food and fast service! The restaurant is located right in the middle of a very touristy area of the Fisherman's Wharf, so it can get pretty busy. The staff kept the line moving quickly and we got our food in about 15 minutes. Seating outside is really pleasant in the evenings with the sun setting over the water. Highly recommend ordering the halibut if you are getting the fish and chips!

I had a great early lunch at Barb's! I ordered the large portion fish&chips, it was very tasty. The dough was nice and crispy and fish nice and fluffy. Afterwards also hefty priced, but definitely worth it!

Yummy fish and chips, we also really enjoyed the salmon. Kid's meals are available. The chowder was delicious, a great little spot by the water and we've been here multiple times over the years.

It's my second time here me and same excellent experience. I had the halibut fish and chips. Batter is light and crispy, just how I like it. Fries is amazing. Not sure if they make their own tar tar sauce, my guess is yes - it's good! The chowder comes in all sizes, really enjoyed that one as well. Also noticed that on both visit, this restaurant is the most busy of all the others. You always have to wait for a table to be vacant as it's that popular. All staff are efficient and friendly too!

Fantastic fish and chips; fresh and hot! The batter was crispy and thin, as it should be. We went in the early evening, and the line up was short and moved quickly. The service was friendly and efficient. Great atmosphere on the wharf to have a great meal.

The first fish and chips I ever had. I would go here with my grandparents and uncle when they were still alive. It is clear I am pretty biased, but to me this is the original and quintessential Fish and Chips experience. You have to eat it on the dock for full effect! A lot of fish and chips places have soggy or weird fries. Not here, they are amazing. And the fish is so creamy and tender and the batter has a unique and delicious almost butter flavour! A tear comes to my eye every time I eat here. It is always a delight and emotional culinary experience! The pictures don’t do it justice and I couldn’t wait to eat it! You must go here for fish and chips when in Victoria!

Barb’s fish and chips definitely lived up to its reputation and was a delicious lunch for the whole family. The fish was tender, battered to perfection, the fries & toast were superb. We tried the seafood chowder and that was very good too. Strolled around Fisherman’s wharf after we had lunch. Totally recommend Barb’s if you’re in Victoria!

Probably one of the best fish and chips I've had in Canada.
The location is beautiful and stunning and the food was hot and fresh.
Portions are good for the price, the cod we ordered was in big chunky pieces with tons of meat. Fries were spot on and there is seating all around. Would definitely recommend and repeat.

Look - I have to give you 3 stars because we have had fish & chips ("walkaway's ") in Dublin and they were to die for. I don't know what they do different. I don't know if their or your fish is farmed or wild-caught. Something about the batter, the malt vinegar, and the fries (I don't always get fries, only if they're really good) were more memorable. My wife also got the salad, I had the cole slaw, and we each sampled each other's plate however later that evening and the next day she was with the type of stomach/intestinal cramping associated with food poisoning. I did not have symptoms. It was a very busy day for you ( weekend of Canadian holiday) but remember there's no excuse for mishandling of food being served to the public; all readers of this post, this is not intended to definitively blame Barb's for her food poisoning, as other things are possible, but you kind of know what's most likely to be where you got it. Would I go back? Yes I would, but I'd prefer it to be on a day when you're not jam packed busy. Thanks.

Best seafood chowder I’ve ever had! None of that cornstarch taste like other places, and loaded with seafood and veggies. The fish and chips are good, but not amazing in my opinion. I get the chowder every time.

Without a doubt, this restaurant serves up the best bill of fare in Victoria....PERIOD. The fish is lightly battered on the outside, while the interior remains soft, juicy, and delectable. I am here to tell you that you'll never find a better bargain when visiting British Columbia's capital! They have never failed....not even once! My wife and I love it! In fact, even the fries are splendid! I just can't can't say enough good things about Barb's! I wish they would open a location in Seattle!

Lovely chips and gravy! The fish batter was a little soggy but the fish was nice. Didn't eat the coleslaw as it was dry and tasteless. I have eaten here lots and will continue to do so. I hope these minor issues are improved though.

Batter was abit soggy this visit but we will return. Always fun to eat on the dock watch the seals and the little harbour ferries. Love the carrot cake at Barbs. Fish and chips meal should really include a drink aswell kind of pricey over $7 for 3 drinks.

My family and I have frequented Barb's for 30 years and the fish has always been yummy. My mom and I shared a $25 two-piece halibut dinner and it was completely flavourless! We don't usually have the tartar sauce but, this time we had to use it on every bite. So disappointing, especially with such a price tag.
