The fish taco was good with many different flavors coming through. Decent portion for the money and can serve as a light afternoon snack as well.
Would go back again
Based on the last review for this place, and on a no red meat kick, I tried the Tuna and fish(battered and deep fried Ling Cod) tacos this evening.
Whoa,...now I understand why there's lineups and people eating while standing up in the place.
It's because the food is fantastic.
Brightly flavoured, fresh ingredients,...plus all the mouth feel favourites, in your hand.
Of the two taco's I had I liked the Tuna best, finely shredded seaweed the ingredient that took it over the top.
One point off because the price is pushing it. I'm absolutely positive that certainly Mexican nationals, and most Americans would be surprised how much us Canucks pay for essentially street food. And I'm sure many other restaurants might be jealous with how much $$$ this and other places with minimal decor/seating pull in, but hey,...in the food department it's hard to beat the nutritional value, taste and fun of the meal you get at this place.
The tortilla soup was good and not overly seasoned so you could really enjoy the ancho chicken broth. Inside the bowl were chunks of roast chicken thighs, sour cream, chunks of melted molten cheese, soft slices of avocado and still crunchy tortilla crisps.
Tacofino makes great tacos! The steak and yam tacos are my fav, the girlfriend loves the pork and fish!
Burriots are just bigger versions of the tacos with rice and cheese... what's not to like!
I was skeptical coming here after being to the tacofino in Tofino. But to my surprise the menu was exactly the same and tasted the same as well. Fish taco was nice and crispy with fresh pico and crunchy cabbage. Would come back here again and it's definitely on par with the Tofino location minus the views in Tofino.
A nice local taco joint with picnic bench seating. Good for a quick casual lunch or takeaway. For first time diners I would try the fish taco first!

Tacofino’s ever expanding reach has stretched the other side of Vancouver Island from where they originally started in Tofino. Their Victoria Tacobar has been open since approximately 2015. I had a chance to check out this location on my most recent Victoria holiday. This location is on the smaller side so I can imagine it would fill up quickly on weekends. Its in the heart of downtown on Fort Street. Other things I love at Tacofino are the burritos, especially the fish, crispy chicken or vegetarian with guacamole added. You cannot miss out on their Diablo cookies. They are a dense, brownie like, spicy cookie. I was happy to get my Tacofino fix during my Victoria vacation.
Best burrito I've had in Victoria! I got the steak burrito the other day for lunch (after multiple people told me to come here and try it) and was amazed at how fresh every component was! Will definitely come again. The line up was massive and I was still in and out in under 10 minutes
Well priced, flavorful, and filling burritos. Beer's a bit pricey. Seating is limited, the establishment itself is pretty cramped, and it's cumbersome to slip yourself onto the bench seating; but usually I'll just get something to go. Don't miss their delicious sauces at the counter. Staff is really friendly, and the service is pretty quick. Cool wallpaper, makes me want to go back to the original Tofino Tacofino :)
Two words: Fish burrito. Get it. But there's too much beans and rice in the burrito. There's the fried fish but way too much rice and beans. That's what makes their burrito huge.
Mmm tacos..
Ambiance - There's generally a line, I wouldn't mind it so much but the space is quite cramped and lacks any air conditioning that I've seen. The seating is also a bit inconvenient, if you're unfortunate enough to have to sit in the middle seats you'll have to climb/walk on the seating area, not ideal.
Service - The staff here are super friendly.
Food - It's not your traditional tacos, but they've definitely taken it and put their own spin on things. I love their beef tacos with the pickled carrots (reminds me of asian pickled carrots I find with more traditional vietnamese foods), and their crispy chicken burrito is just as yummy.
Horsing Around Victoria
+4
Monty and the gang at Horsing Around Headquarters have been on a mission of grave importance. We have been on the hunt to find Victoria’s most tantalizing tacos. It is a tough job, eating all that fab Mexican food, but dog gone it, someone has to get in the trenches, and that ain’t just a load of guacamole!
THE FOOD:
This is the tastiest, late night, affordable food in town. You will get really good value, consistency in food and interesting flavours for your money. We all know there are cheap late night pizza joints with ok pizza. And before Tacofino, that's all there really was for eating after 9.
My FAVES are the crispy chicken taco (battered deep fried chicken with housemade sauces and fresh greens) and the pork gringa (the tortilla is heated on the grill and stuffed with shredded pork, cheese and sauce). The pork belly taco they had on special one night was wonderful. I wish they had it more often. My partner religiously gets the steak burrito. It's very filling, has a good amount of beef, lots of sauce and flavour.
I'm disappointed with the yam taco. It *would* be good but they slice the yams PAPER THIN. I can't taste any yam, just the deep fried batter which is good but I want some yam flavour! They are so good about the meat portions that it's shocking that they would give such a chintzy, nonexistent yam portion. The yam is cut much, much thinner than you would get for yam tempura at a Japanese restaurant. I just don't get it.
THE SERVICE:
There's often a line up that goes pretty quick. The servers are usually friendly and pretty competent.
THE AMBIANCE:
The bench seating is the worst. It's bad enough that you have zero personal space with the person sitting right beside you on the bench. What's even worse is that you are sitting bum to bum with a stranger behind you. We usually take our food to-go.
I return frequently for the food regardless of the time though it is SO nice to have this as a late night option.

Awesome Vegan Burrito! I love that they have a vegan option on the menu, avoiding ingredient questions! Staff are super friendly and they are always fast!
Will always come back!!. The Tacofino in Tofino was a life staple for me since it opened. Right after I moved down here the Victoria location opened (to my delight!!!). I've been a number of times now and it's EXACTLY everything I had hoped it would be...fresh, DELICIOUS, consistent, convenient and friendly. The fish tacos are a must and those DIABLO cookies are unreal. I will always go back, over and over and over. These guys have nailed it! I love it and I'm glad it's close by :)
Delicious Tuna taco ! Yum.
Taste ok, little pricey. $10 for a vegan burrito
Still the best fish taco I've ever had and for an unbelievably great price. Love it
Flavour Nirvana. My wife and I originally went to the mint for dinner, long story short we left 1 hour+ without dinner and starving. We went to Tacofino for the first time and were pleasantly surprised at how great it truly was. We shared a fish taco, pork burrito and a diablo cookie. It saved us from what have been a terrible night, can't wait for the next chance to dine there again!
Cowabunga dude. Fish Taco and pulled prok burrito- ya baby a taste extraveganza.
Make sure you have napkins and don't eat while driving
Have had both tofino and Victoria trucks tacos in the past week and they were both awesome and seemed to have the same amount of fish and toppings on both. Great work ! Delicious
Had the fish tacos, they were awesome. Worth searching out.
Fish Tacos. I have never had a better Baja-style fish taco. I was excited to here there was a Tacofino opening in Victoria. The Tacofino truck in Tofino is a must if you are going to Tofino. The Victoria truck did not disappoint!
Excellent Burrito!. Had the vegetarian burrito and it was DELICIOUS, not to mention VERY filling. It's quite large and stuffed with tons of filling. It was not overly spicy, I could have had more heat, but it was still really tasty. I'm not vegetarian, so I would be interested to try it with meat to see what that adds to the overall flavour. Will definitely be getting another burrito from Tacofino before the summer ends!
Tacofino has finally landed in Victoria. The burritos are more than enough to hit your hunger and knock it out of the parking lot - it was the size of a Nerf football, but waaay heavier. Filled with seasoned basmati rice, black beans, chipotle mayo, shredded cabbage and your chosen protein - we tried the tempura battered cod (moist and flaky) and the pork (braised and plentiful).
This restaurant would be a 4.5/5 for me due to the fact that I bought nachos, added chicken for $6, and yet somehow ended up without beans on my meal. The food was actually delicious. However, I was disappointed that my nachos seemed so empty, despite having added chicken. The correct language would have been to sub chicken rather than add, as getting chicken substitutes it in for the beans.
This tuna taco will be joining me in my dreams for quite some time. Absolutely incredible! Expect a crowd during peak chow times. Order for pickup or inside dining then grab a spot at a table or bar. Service was super fast and friendly.
We stopped for a quick bite at Tacofino as we had already eaten and had dinner plans too. We just heard great things about the yam taco and couldn’t avoid it. It did not disappoint. The yam tempura was juicy, seasoned and delectable. The crunch from the cabbage paired with the acidity from the coleslaw really brought it all together. The tortilla was nice and grilled so the attention to detail was clear. We did have to wait a while but not cause of lack of effort. They had 4 to 5 people on the taco burrito assembly line constantly preparing orders. It was very organized and appeared clean. The staff was really friendly and we can’t wait to come back for a steak taco and/or their breakfast.
A must try in Victoria! Very attentive staff but very little space to sit inside. That said, the food is outstanding. We sampled the pork burrito and fried yam tacos and they were spectacular! Highly recommended for a quick lunch.
This place was on my must check out list during my trip to Victoria and it didn’t disappoint!!
I had a fried fish and a steak taco and both were delicious!!! The proteins were cooked to perfection and the tacos were just enough loaded that it had flavour punch without melting the taco shell/tortillas!
Super quick turnaround time! The place was a little noisy but that’s not a big deal.
Quite busy on a thursday night, but all the tacos we got were really tasty, just as good as their og location in tofino imo. Prices are on the higher side, but reasonable for the portion size! Would recommend the fish taco with the crispy battered cod :)
I want to give this place a 5 because I love the tacos. However, it is quite busy (not their fault) and quite pricey (a little bit more their fault). If it was cheaper I would certainly give 5 stars, but the quality to cost ratio is a little skewed (for tacos). Good flavours though, and a good west coast taco place.
Can you ever go wrong with Tacofino? Absolutely not. I've been to the Tacofino Ocho and Gastown (religiously) and I can never curb my craving for their tacos.
Having a chance to come to the Victoria location was a treat, especially since they're open till 11 pm. Staff were very friendly and service was quick (though your mileage may vary during peak hours).
10/10 would take a trip and make time on Tuesday for tacos anytime
Long time favourite place to get a burrito - especially like the crispy chicken. Service is efficient as the kitchen serves up the food in a usually busy place. Often kind of crowded and load but good atmosphere nonetheless.
Incredible Tacos!
Found myself pulled here by my sister while visiting her this weekend. Popped in line (there often is a short line I hear), and had our order taken, then delivered shortly thereafter. A number tag and bottle of water with a cute blue cap is handed to me before we head to our table. The server recommended the crispy chicken taco. My sister swore to me that the steak taco was the best I’d ever have. The former was great, but the latter was indeed true. Get a steak taco.
Bonus points for local Phillips Brewery on tap. Modern aesthetic and low key vibe brought it all together.
Highly recommend checking this place out.
AMAZING. I’ve had Tacofino in Vancouver, but this was even better! The tacos are great (especially the yam taco), and the crispy chicken burrito was the best burrito I’ve ever had.
Lots of space inside and out for seating, but busy with dine in and take out orders.
The staff was really lovely and accommodating. They gave me the wrong taco and were quick to rectify in an above and beyond manner. 10 ⭐️
Food is very delicious and they are huge, I hardly finish it. The staff are very friendly and efficient.
We planned part of our Victoria trip around this restaurant from excellent reviews and recommendations and it was so worth it. We ended up ordering way more food than the 2 of us could enjoy in an attempt to try various options. Absolutely left stuff in a food coma of bliss. The crispy chicken burrito, yam burrito, yam taco and fish tacos were just divine. The hard cider to accompany the meal was a perfect combo. Will definitely be back for more. Not a lot of free parking nearby so bare in mind to pay for your spot or expect an unpleasant surprise when you are back. Nothing abnormal for a downtown establishment.
So damn good 🤤
Nice vibes in a convenient spot downtown for some killer Mexican food. The offerings might not be “authentic” but they’re reaaaaally good - get over it. Loved everything I had here, and even the margarita delivered! Hot sauces have my mouth-watering at the memory of them…
Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to!
The steak tacos are spectacular - seriously the marinated steak is on point and the toppings compliment well. The tacos are big - two were plenty for a grown adult. Pleasant indoor seats that turnover quickly.
1st time here. My favourite place in YYJ :)
The sirloin taco is amaaaaaaaazing so tasty :) Great service and staff!! Good music too!! Will be back to try some more! Reasonable price! Quality ingredients!
Their Crispy Chicken Burrito is the best. I'm never disappointed when I order one.
Fast service too. I also love how easy it is to order by phone to pick up and their outside window, makes picking up lunch when I'm at work a breeze.
What’s not to love about Tacofino! This is the third location we’ve eaten at and the experience was consistently top notch. We had the nachos which were a first for me-next time I’ll ask for them to “go easy” on the beans (just to play it safe) Fish and Yam tacos were a hit as well, nice to see the taste and price come together so exceedingly well. Kudos guys we’ll be back.
We had the steak burritos. They were huge and very good. Not exactly the "Mexican" I'm used to, but still really good, fresh food. I couldn't finish mine!
