Review Saveur Restaurant - Victoria

Hannah St
An anchor to the contemporary French fine dinning experience in Victoria. Visually inspirational for every dish we ordered. A mixture of different textures and tastes for each ingredient as those explode in mouth. Recommend their medium rare steak and seasonal berries as dessert. Our return visit for we love the atmosphere and the waitress is approachable and friendly. Waiter and waitress know their dishes well. My only side suggestion is to approach the diners with questions while they’re not having a moment (Eg. laughing). Our conversation came to a hilarious end, as we try to hold on our laughter the waitress came dropping us with a question. Our moment of climatic enjoyment got cut off/ short since we had to quickly recover to respond. Here their timing is key.

We went there for the 1st time tonight and were blown away-service was incredible and sadly forgot the receipt to remember her name. Food was absolutely incredible! Most outstanding dish for us was the pork belly appetizer! Everything else was so beautifully presented and all the flavors were on point making it a full on sensory experience -highly recommend👌👍👍

We've been to Saveur a few times now. Thought I'd post a review. Prices are definitely on the higher side and portions are smaller as well, but the quality of food is excellent. Started off with the soba noodles and rosti. The soba noodles are to die for, although the portion was 1/4 of the size compared to when we ordered them which was a bit disappointing. My fiancee got the tuna and I had the burger. Everything was fantastic as usual. We finished off by sharing lemon pudding which was amazing. Service was outstanding (and was the two prior times we dined here). Victoria doesn't have a plethora of fine dining experiences. If you're looking for a fancier spot for a special night out, I'd highly recommend Saveur. Bon appetit!

Great food and wonderful service! The flavours were delicate and well balanced, yet super flavourful and unique. The presentation was beautiful. The service was great; We took our time and didn't feel rushed.

We came on a sunday without realizing that there is a set menu on sunday's, I was pretty skeptical going into it as the menu items sounded very unique and I am a tad on the fence when it comes to new foods. I was pleasently surprised by what we ordered, but I thought that everything was so close to perfection, yet not quite there yet because of the small details. Everything was presented beautifully, the cucumber salad and the beef carpaccio were delicious as appitizers. The steak was cooked to perfection and is from Alberta, as a person that grew up in Calgary, this was still proabably one of the best steaks that I've had. Although the fried hash with the steak had a burnt flavour because it was put into overcooked oil and the almond's with the halibut made the flavour of the whole dish bitter. The desserts were amazing and I loved the sorbet's that were served as pallet cleansers, although it may be helpful if the server's could point that out as I imagine that not everyone would know to eat the dessert that way and the flavour is vastly different if you ate the sorbet with the main items of the dessert. Service was fantastic, Shane was super attentive and personable. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here and would definately recommend this resturant.

Worth the splurge!!! Yes it's expensive. And yes it was amazing! Good things are worth spending money on and if you've never had a fine dining meal, this should be on your local list to try! Service was attentive and on point. The meals were paired wonderfully with reds and whites appropriately. We started off with a super fun creative chai inspired whiskey sour! If James has it available, order it!!! When they say their tenderloin is like butter, it's true. And yes, you should pair wine with your dessert! It's a small venue, with small tables but the service keeps on top of your table helping to avoid clutter. Thanks Chef, James, and Ryan for the great time!

Absolutely love this place. Tried nearly every dish on the menu and enjoyed all of them. Food is not cheap and a little floofy (small portions) but that is expected at this type of place and food. I tried the scallop and beef entrees, both were fantastic. Our server was one of the best I've ever had as well, very nice guy and oddly decisive in helping us choose meals which was great The beet salad with the airated goat cheese was quite something. The chocolate cake has a beet white chocolate ganache poured in the middle and was great

Early seating for dinner which means the restaurant was not crowded. Mike was a great server. Mussels. Are. A. Must. Try. We ordered it 2x. Cocktails are forgettable. Maybe the wines might be better. Focacia bread that was complimentary tasted off - like it was missing salt and we found it hard to eat. Maybe it was meant to taste like that?!? Crab panna cotta with corn. Salad was great. Mushroom cracklings was great. Skipped dessert. Came here with high expectations but maybe that’s why I was a bit disappointed. Overall, the food was amazing and the best part of the experience coming here. Kudos to the chefs.

Absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. It’s the sort of meals that brings you to wonder… how did they manage to turn mundane ingredients, you find in any fridge, into something so delicious!? The setting is clean and nicely decorated, the seatings were well sectioned for covid as well. I think they did try their best to serve but they were a little bit understaffed. Would love to try more dishes next time in Victoria!

Nice french restaurant with an Asian twist. The food is all very pretty and the service is great (prob cuz they add an 18% service charge regardless of the no. of people in your group). The food is on the pricier end but it's is pretty good. I especially liked the pork belly.

This food was probably the best experience I will have this year. A master fully composed symphony of flavors perfectly executed. Knowledgeable, attentive service. A special memory.

We loved the atmosphere and food. The wings were delish. Tacos were good, but the good old burger was the best. Awesome potato - worth adding as a side. We also had merengue for dessert, definitely with a twist but good. Wish there was more merengue.

Had the most amazing evening! The chef created amazing vegan dishes for me (shoutout to Rob) and the service was phenomenal (shoutout to Avi). Would highly recommend coming here for a fine dining experience

It was a wonderful experience and helpful as I'm gluten free. They even cleaned the fryer so I could have chicken. The food is to die for . The staff was friendly and it was reasonably priced. 100% recommended but book a table in advance.

Had birthday dinner here yesterday. The food was amazing! The crispy pork belly was so tasty with that a bit crunch outside and so juicy inside! The squash and Quinn sauce was so good with the meat too. The duck was surprisingly soft with also crispy skin. It really had the duck taste in it which I loved so much! Personally I loved the duck slightly better than the pork belly, but my friend liked the pork more. Had the dark chocolate dessert at the end with chestnut, foie gras ice cream and chocolate nibs flakes. Nice combination too! The staff there was so nice! Had a really nice dinner! Definitely recommend to try here! Great French restaurant in Victoria

The food looks absolutely gorgeous and the taste is rich with fully developed flavors. We loved the mussels in smoky tomato sauce! The Earl Grey infused wafer with the lemon curd dessert was phenomenal!

Service and food here was top notch. We shared a few plates and every plate and recommendation from our friendly server was exceptional. There was an 18% service charge automatically added to the bill, but I think it's well-deserved. Saveur Restaurant was the exclamation point to our weekend in Victoria.

What I really don't understand is why this place is not full with a long waitlist. Every night. We came on a slow Wednesday and the chef assured me that they were full the rest of the week. If that is the case be sure to get a reservation and get here. The food is amazing. We did the tasting menu. A veggie option along with a meat/fish option. Both were excellent combinations of flavors. The chef mixes things up quite a bit and there were three new dishes tonight that he had not served before. They were all new to us. We often hedge on wine pairing because too often it's too much. This time it was just right. Probably about one full bottle of tastings between us. The combinations were right on! There was only one pairing where I disagreed but left myself open to the new combinations. I won't describe each dish but will attach pictures of everything we had. It was all so good. Will definitely return next time I'm in town and see what the chef comes up with next.

Our visit to the Saveur Restaurant was a unique and very pleasant experience. First, we arrived just before 6pm and were able to choose our table. The four of us chose the table in the window which gave us a view extending from the three chefs in the open kitchen to the activities in the street. Second, we could choose from three separate menus: the Chef's Tasting, the Chef's Vegetarian Tasting and the a la carte. The Tasting menus each had five courses with an optional wine pairing for each course. One of us chose the Vegetarian and the other three the Chef's Tasting. Third, three very nice and articulate servers in various combinations presented the five courses one after another over the next couple of hours. Each serving was exquisite in appearance and taste. Even the bowls, plates and cutlery were each unique. There was a connection between the abstract art on the walls and the servings on our plates. The young chef changes the tasting menus every few weeks. We very much look forward to enjoying them again as well as exploring the a la carte menu.

We did the chef's tasting menu and the vegetarian tasting menu. Each of the 5 dishes on each of the 2 tasting menus was carefully crafted so that it had several distinctive unique and uncommon flavors that came together in a beautiful way. Doing this for one dish is impressive for 10 dishes it is simply incredible! I highly recommend doing the wine pairing with the tasting menu. On some dishes the wine made the dish and on others the dish made the wine. Executive Chef Rob Cassels is truly a rising star in the culinary industry, and Front of House Manager Ryan McGibbon was exquisite; he made impressive drinks he provided exquisite detail on the food served and nailed the complicated wine names from all across the world on top of that he is one of the most likable personable people I have ever encountered.

This dining experience was perfection. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Superb food, excellent service and yet it never felt pretentious or snobby. The tasting menu was divine. I loved every course and look forward to going back for the ala carte menu! Thanks for a wonderful meal. I have lived in Victoria for two years and this has been by far the best dinner we have enjoyed!!!

Ordered the tasting menu with the wine pairing. The wine sommelier had excellent choices. The chef utilizes the finest and freshest ingredients there are to offer and changes them to challenge your pallette. Growing up on a beet farm will never quite taste the same. Thank you, you made my first visit to Canada exquisite.

Daral pope and the chef Have the most amazing food that you can find in Victoria breakfast for the artisan bistro and the wine makers dinner that we hold is amazing but o think my chef and the chef should talk to start a new dining expires in Victoria for the people. Never under estimate we all love pub food but a chef is there every day 24/7 PS the only way we get an amazing chef to know he has time of is if his team is to his standards. All and all I know that I work with one of the best in the he city but the chef from saveur is as we'll and both chef's have worked there ass off to make sure every man is happy to come to work for them and get amazing knowledge. These two chefs run a tight ship and they are amazing

Our Aug 26 reservation had to be cancel, so can't wait for Nov 18 to finally try this gem 😊. Wow, it was worth the wait, perfection from the moment we came in. Perfect and friendly service, and each of the vegetarien testing menu plates was incredible. Thank you again so much for our special bday treat as we sat down and our incredible treat when we left, what an incredible costumer service you are offering. Merci for making my evening with my daughter wonderful ❤️

We were celebrating our 20th anniversary and the entire staff were welcoming and inclusive. We had the tasting menu and substituted easily to accommodate dietary restrictions. The risotto is to die for!! The chef is using some great innovative techniques and we left wanting to come back!! Thanks for a wonderful evening!!

As a vegetarian, I’ve never felt so satisfied or as if so much work went into creating a fabulous food experience for my kind. Haha. I’m sick of pasta or risotto being my “options”. The chef selection dishes were unique, delicious, and absolutely flavourful. The presentation was lovely and the service was fantastic. Recommend getting the wine pairings. Thank you.

Incredible food and service! I would highly recommend the chefs tasting menu, every dish was delicious.

What an amazing dining experience! Beef carpaccio and Gnocchi appetizers were delicious! Beef Tenderloin was probably best steak I’ve ever had. Friendly service, really cool that chef 👨‍🍳 came out and introduced himself and asked if we enjoyed everything. Great spot to celebrate a special occasion 😊👍

The meal left us absolutely speechless. Outdid our expectations ten-fold. Outdid Michelin star restaurants we have been to. Wine pairings to die for. Original flavours, textures and presentation.Just amazing.

This was hands down the best meal I had on the island, after two weeks of eating at all the places everyone said I should eat. Yes, I ate at Wolf in the Fog; yes I ate at Stage; yes I went to Little Jumbo; etc, etc, etc. Chef Rob just killed it with inventive and well-crafted and balanced plates. Do the chef's tasting menu. It's honest, creative genius. I eat out a lot, and I'm from Toronto, where the competition for good food keeps you on your toes. This meal left me floored. Seriously Victoria, eat here and show these folks some love. They deserve it for putting on a very good show.

Amazing meal, service, atmosphere, wine pairings, menu. You pay for the quality but it is well worth it. Everyone left completely satisfied. Well done.
