This is one of the best and authentic chinese restaurants in Vancouver. Everyone who said that the service in this restaurant was bad is just clearly an unhappy person who probably says that about every restaurant. The service is actually surprisingly good for such a great Chinese restaurant (and we all know that the worse the service the better the food). They don't speak much English, but they really try to be friendly and attentive. The pork juicy dumplings, or xiao long bao, is probably the best thing on their menu. They are huge and so ridiculously juicy that I dream about them every other day. And they are hand made by these servers that some say suck... Do you know how hard it is to make a big pork soup dumpling? It takes skills. Their lamb spicy cumin dish is also amazing. Try it with the deep fried sliced rolls dipped in condensed milk and it might change your life. Seriously, this is the first review I've written inspired by this place. And I've been here through the last couple years and it's always been one of my favourites. Try it. For the food, not the service. You don't eat the servers so let's just stick to talking about food, people. Sheesh.
Like them on facebook. This Restaurant was really good, the owner is a super nice lady I love how she tries her best to speak english haha its cute. I ordered the Shrimp fried rice and oh my goodness, best fried rice ever. Xiao Long Bao, you all have to try, i recommend it. While i was eating I saw a few workers making Xiao Long Bao, it looked complicated to make but mm everything is delicious. I totally recommend this restaurant if you're in the area, or looking for some asian food to try =)
58 and pan fried pork buns. If you're going to try this place, you gotta have the noodles. I like #58 - beef noodle soup. The broth is unbelievable. I'd describe it for you, but I don't have a clue as to what is in it. (Mostly because my cooking talents don't exceed Chef Boyardee in the microwave.) Whatever it is - it's magical. I'm sort of a picky meat eater, but I still try to eat around the fat on some of the stewed beef because the beef is delicious. The noodles are fresh and they make it hard to go back to eating packaged noodles ever again afterwards! I also love the pan fried pork buns, but sadly, they are not always available when I get there. I wish they still had the 98 b-line so I could express bus it to The Place!
The wontons in chilli sauce rock at "the place"
We were looking for some Shanghai restaurants we haven’t tried yet and The Place is one of them. It is actually a Szechuan and Shanghai ......To conclude, the food quality is not bad but the environment is a bit…sketchy. At the moment we went inside, there was a strong smell of detergent and it scared our appetites away.
This place came highly recommended by my friend Vince. Finding parking on a friday afternoon on Granville started off looking like it'd be difficult, but we scored a spot right in front just as someone pulled out! =) The Place 8028 Granville St, Vancouver BC Tel#: (604) 261-3948 From outside, the place looked quite small, but actually it held quite a number of tables. I have to admit, I wasn't expecting the chairs to be covered and glass over the tablecloths. It was a nice surprise. Vince had been raving about the Steamed Juicy Dumplings, so we started off with 2 orders without knowing what to expect. Hehe, I think our table was a bit in shock when we saw the size of each xlb! Marv absolutely loved this version of xlb, why? Because it was huge!! Lol, It was good enough to fill him up and it was quite tasty. There was a ton of soup in each one(even tho it l
This random and oddly generically named joint had massive XLBs full of meat and soup. There were a tad salty with thick shells, but very good nonetheless.
