Cafe Xu Hue is a little hole in the wall spot that specializes in bun bo hue. Every time I walk by on a weekend, there’s a line. You’ll find them next door to Ngon Banh Mi & Tea. Hours. Note: closed on Wednesday. They proudly show off their Vancouver 2017 Restaurant award. I’ve been a few times now. The inside only has 8 tables (with a total of 34 seats). Service is efficient and food comes out quickly. They bring a cup of cold tea when you first sit down.
Café Xu Hue is a place which we have been going for Bún bò Hu in many years, but we never write a review about this place. We have been greedy for NOT sharing this secret place with others, but its popularity is well known by lots of Vietnamese people.
Bún bò Hu is a popular spicy Vietnamese soup containing rice vermicelli with sliced pork and beef. The difference between pho and bun noodles is that pho is flat like fettuccine whereas bun is cylindrical like spaghetti.
Bún bò Hu at Café Xu Hue has a lot of ingredients with pork hock, pigs blood, and beef in big portion size. They serve with shredded banana blossom, chili pepper, and bean spout. These add a different dimension to the soup compared to other Vietnamese restaurants. Most restaurants charge extra or don't have shredded banana blossom. Café Xu Hue is very generous and provides it ONLY if you order Bún bò Hu.
Café Xu Hue is located on Kingsway near the new T&T Supermarket at Kensington Gardens in East Vancouver. 2226 Kingsway, Vancouver, BC
