Nice Hong Kong style cafe. We ordered the Chinese minced beef on rice, curry beef tongue spaghetti and the Swiss sauce chicken wings.
The wings were so juicy and the other two dishes taste authentic. Plenty of parking spots is also an plus.
Will definitely come again.

As you can still find the typical cafe fare served at Mandarin Hong Kong Cafe, such as a bowl of wonton noodle soup or a casserole of baked pork chop on rice, you will likely to find the dining experience slighly elevated if you give it a go at one of those special dishes with quality ingredients and refined cooking. The two 3-course dinner specials, the Lobster Fettuccine and the Ribeye Steak with Crawfish, were both quite the steal ($17.95), for which you need to pay over $30 to have that full appetizer, main, and dessert deal at Cactus Club. Yes they are more expensive than the average Hong Kong style cafes in the city, but the quality is definitely worth the extra.

Related to the Amigo in Richmond, this location appears to be renovated. The place was bright and clean. Parking was plenty as in the strip mall with Safeway - wished people learn to drive in the one way aisles.
Anyway, the food was good. Been there for lunch dinner. Like the lunch special combos. Decent size and comes with a drink.
Dinner, agree with reviewer below that it is on the pricier side for a HK style café An entry is about $26 plus tax and tip.
Service is on par with most HK style cafés.
Overall, lunch is good, dinner is good (on the pricier side). Suggest that the business bring in some Chinese 小菜 options.

Food & service are good but I don't really like the way they use styrofoam boxes for takeouts. I've bought takeouts twice from them and the hot food melted the box both times and not only make a mess but my food are kind of wasted. I really hope that they will use aluminum boxes on all hot foods not just baked stuff.
It's a new place so is clean & bright. The staff are nice & friendly. The food wait is a bit longer than other HK style cafes but still acceptable. The parking is terrible at lunch & 4:30-6pm.
Back to the food I think their Chinese style noodles & rice are way better than their western style pasta. All of their stir fry rice noodle are really smooth & soft & saucy. But the western style pasta/rice are a bit disappointed. The pasta are usually so dry and hard and the sauces are never enough.
But overall the food is good

Mandarin HK Cafe, King Ed/Cambie - Late lunch

乾炒牛河 (Dry fry cow river)

Rating: B+

Notes: Lots of hot wok flavour, smooth well-cooked tender chewy noodles still in large enough strands. Not overly greasy or heavy. Fresh snappy bite on the sprouts, which were quite large compared to store bought. Beef is well marinated with still some moisture. Would've like a bit more green onions. Overall skillfully cooked.

(Chef special) Cajun chicken with spicy tomato sauce, comes with soup, bread, drink, rice/pasta/fries, and dessert - good deal for $18.

Rating: B

Notes: deliciously seasoned skin, very crisply fried. Quite tender and moist dark meat, soft chew. Veggies were lightly seasoned, properly cooked. Very tasty spicy tomato sauce, kind of like a spicy mayo - tasted like ketchup-mayo-cream with chili. Very appetizing, but got heavy on the salt halfway through. HK milk tea on the milky side and weak tea flavour. Very soft and loose toasted bread - great. Borscht soup was very tomato paste based, veggies lacking bite - still good flavour but average. Rice that came with it was hot and still had moisture - it paired very nicely with the sauce and seasoned chicken. I chose taro pudding for the dessert - it had a soft airy bite, controlled sweetness, somewhat powdered flavour as a base but actual julienned taro at the bottom. It was a perfect end and refreshing palate cleanser.
