Decent quality, quick service, and reasonably priced food. Cafeteria style service, where you order at the counter and pick up your own food. They serve Chinese rice noodle soup and clay pot rice.
I’m a big fan of noodle soups, whether they be ramen, pho, wonton noodle soups, etc. Lately, I’ve found that the trend is towards joints where you tick off what broth you want, what ingredients you like, and any side dishes you desire. One of the more notable restaurants that espouses this format is Deer Garden. I heard through the grapevine awhile ago that there was a new little joint on Victoria Drive that was doing this format, but the kicker? It’s 10.00 flat, including tax and tip, but you pretty much bring your sheet up to the counter yourself, pay before hand, and bring it to your table by yourself (doesn’t explain why there’s a tip included to begin with, but we’ll leave that be for now).
This restaurant used to be called Happy Man and it had changed the ownership about one month ago. Their specialty is hainanese chicken and hainanese chicken laksa. This is self service restaurant which means you order your food and pay up front and then pick up your order. The portion is quite big for both orders. My husband orders hainanese chicken with rice which comes with clear soup and tea. I order hainanese chicken laksa which comes with hot milk tea. My husband absolutely loves the hainanese chicken. I also like my dish, it's very tasty. The good thing about hainanese dish is that they remove the bones and give quite generous amount of boneless chicken. Each order is $10 and the price is already includes tax and tip. It is cash only restaurant. They also have a menu which you order the soup base, type of noodles, two types of meat for noodle soup. We tried the szechuan spicy soup, original fish soup and mince pork fish soup base with different types of meat. The Szechuan spicy soup base is my favourite and my husband's favourite is original fish soup base. Very tasty soup base with no MSG. Highly recommend the hainanese chicken and noodle soup here.
